DNA Methylation and p53 Immunohistochemistry as Prognostic Biomarkers for Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus.

Vulvar lichen sclerosus (LS) is an inflammatory dermatosis that can progress to human papillomavirus (HPV)-independent vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (HPVi VIN) and vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC). Although LS has a much lower cancer risk compared with HPVi VIN (5% vs 50%, respectively), its incidence is significantly higher. Therefore, there is a clinical need to identify LS patients with an increased cancer risk.

Evaluation of Anti-Glycopeptidolipid-Core Immunoglobulin A Antibody Detection for the Diagnosis of Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Cervicofacial Lymphadenitis.

A multicenter cross-sectional diagnostic study was carried out including 45 children with nontuberculous mycobacterial cervicofacial lymphadenitis and controls. The tested immunoassay, detecting M. avium- specific anti-glycopeptidolipid-core immunoglobulin A antibodies, had inadequate diagnostic performance in the studied population and seems to be of no additional value in detecting cases of nontuberculous mycobacterial cervicofacial lymphadenitis.

Retzius sparing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy: optimizing functional results.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to critically evaluate the existing body of evidence regarding the efficacy of Retzius-sparing radical prostatectomy (RS-RARP) in achieving improved functional outcomes. Moreover, we explored possible strategies to further optimize functional outcomes.

Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review (PROSPERO ID CRD42024539915) was performed on 9th September 2023 on PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science.

To meet the growing demand for intraoperative molecular imaging, the development of compatible imaging agents plays a crucial role. Given the unique requirements of surgical applications compared to diagnostics and therapy, maximizing translational potential necessitates distinctive imaging agent designs. For effective surgical guidance, exogenous signatures are essential and are achievable through a diverse range of imaging labels such as (radio)isotopes, fluorescent dyes, or combinations thereof.

Treatment patterns and survival outcomes of patients admitted to the intensive care unit due to immune-related adverse events of immune checkpoint inhibitors.

Introduction: Severe immune-related adverse events (irAEs) due to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) can lead to admission to the intensive care unit (ICU). In this retrospective study, we determined the incidence, treatment patterns and survival outcomes of this patient population at a comprehensive cancer center.

Methods: All patients admitted to the ICU due to irAEs from ICI treatment between January 2015 and July 2022 were included.

Introduction: Persistent air leak (PAL) is associated with prolonged hospitalization, high morbidity and increased treatment costs. Conservative treatment consists of observation, chest tube drainage, and pleurodesis. Guidelines recommend surgical evaluation if air leak does not respond after 3-5 days.

Exploring global barriers to optimal ovarian cancer care: thematic analysis.

Objective: To explore the barriers to ovarian cancer care, as reported in the open ended responses of a global expert opinion survey, highlighting areas for improvement in global ovarian cancer care. Potential solutions to overcome these barriers are proposed.

Methods: Data from the expert opinion survey, designed to assess the organization of ovarian cancer care worldwide, were analyzed.

Location-Based Oncological Outcomes of Sentinel Node Dissection in Radical Prostatectomy.

Purpose: Our study aimed to assess the oncological outcomes of sentinel node dissection during radical prostatectomy according to nodal location in comparison to extended pelvic lymph node dissection.

Materials And Methods: Prospectively collected data of clinically node-negative patients who underwent prostatectomy and extended lymph node dissection with or without sentinel node from January 2013 to January 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. The primary end point was to assess oncological outcomes on the whole population.

Mutations are abundantly present in tissues of healthy individuals, including the breast epithelium. Yet it remains unknown whether mutant cells directly induce lesion formation or first spread, leading to a field of mutant cells that is predisposed towards lesion formation. To study the clonal and spatial relationships between morphologically normal breast epithelium adjacent to pre-cancerous lesions, we developed a three-dimensional (3D) imaging pipeline combined with spatially resolved genomics on archival, formalin-fixed breast tissue with the non-obligate breast cancer precursor ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).

Intentional overdose with insulin preparations is rare. However, fatal consequences due to severe hypoglycemia could occur. The Cohort Study of Mobile Phone Use and Health (COSMOS) has repeatedly collected self-reported and operator-recorded data on mobile phone use. Assessing health effects using self-reported information is prone to measurement error, but operator data were available prospectively for only part of the study population and did not cover past mobile phone use. To optimize the available data and reduce bias, we evaluated different statistical approaches for constructing mobile phone exposure histories within COSMOS.

Introduction: Post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL) arises as a dermal complication following a visceral leishmaniasis (VL) infection. Current treatment options for PKDL are unsatisfactory, and there is a knowledge gap regarding the distribution of antileishmanial compounds within human skin. The present study investigated the skin distribution of miltefosine in PKDL patients, with the aim to improve the understanding of the pharmacokinetics at the skin target site in PKDL.

Background: Guidelines recommend to include exercise and dietary advice in standard care for patients with cancer, based on evidence primarily derived from patients with breast cancer. Its applicability to patients with ovarian cancer is uncertain due to differences in patient characteristics and treatments. The PADOVA trial examined the effectiveness of a combined exercise and dietary intervention on fat-free mass (FFM), physical functioning, and fatigue.

ESR1 chromatin binding is extensively studied in cell lines and a limited number of human tumors, using consensi of peaks shared among samples. However, little is known about inter-tumor heterogeneity of ESR1 chromatin action, along with its biological implications.

Neoadjuvant nivolumab with or without relatlimab in resectable non-small-cell lung cancer: a randomized phase 2 trial.

Antibodies targeting the immune checkpoint molecules PD-1, PD-L1 and CTLA-4, administered alone or in combination with chemotherapy, are the standard of care in most patients with metastatic non-small-cell lung cancers. When given before curative surgery, tumor responses and improved event-free survival are achieved. New antibody combinations may be more efficacious and tolerable.
