Surgical resection and high-dose radiotherapy constitute the standard therapeutic approaches for chordoma. However, the efficacy of radiotherapy is often compromised by the tumor microenvironment's hypoxic conditions, which confer radiation resistance, and by the potential damage to adjacent spinal cord and neural structures from elevated radiation doses. To address these challenges, we employed high biocompatible poly(vinylpyrrolidone)-modified tantalum nanoparticles (Ta@PVP NPs) as a potent radiosensitizer to augment the radiotherapy sensitivity of chordoma.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The use of lavender as sleep aid or hypnotic agent can be traced back as early as ancient Romans and Greeks. Yet, objective experimental data on whether and how lavender enhances sleep duration or/and sleep quality remain lacking.
Aim Of The Study: We aimed to characterize the sleep-wake regulating effects of lavender in the mouse and to demonstrate the brain targets and neural circuits involved.

Background: Metformin, a widely used antihyperglycemic drug, has shown efficacy in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and is associated with potential benefits beyond glycemic control. This study investigates the impact of metformin on mortality in T2DM patients using a prospective cohort design utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).
Methods: In NHANES 1999-2014, a total of 5813 representative participants aged 20 and above with T2DM were included in the analysis.

Sodium zirconium cyclosilicate (SZC) is a nonabsorbed cation-exchanger approved in China for the treatment of hyperkalemia [HK; serum potassium (sK) levels >5.0 mmol/L]. This is the first real-world study aimed to assess the effectiveness, safety, and treatment patterns of SZC in Chinese patients with HK.

Accurate diagnosis of white blood cells from cytopathological images is a crucial step in evaluating leukaemia. In recent years, image classification methods based on fully convolutional networks have drawn extensive attention and achieved competitive performance in medical image classification. In this paper, we propose a white blood cell classification network called ResNeXt-CC for cytopathological images.

Objective: To explore the mechanism by which Tregs promote the progression of colorectal cancer by inducing tumor-associated macrophages to polarize into M2 type via ICOS.
Methods: Postoperative pathological tissues and clinical pathological data of 268 colorectal cancer patients who underwent initial surgery were collected. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to detect the expression levels of ICOS, CD163 (a marker for M2 macrophages), and Foxp3 (a marker for Tregs) in cancerous, adjacent non-tumorous, and normal tissues.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with significant mortality, which is primarily due to cardiovascular complications. Despite advancements in RA treatment, mortality rates remain high, highlighting the need for reliable prognostic markers. The advanced lung cancer inflammation index (ALI), which integrates inflammatory and nutritional biomarkers, has shown promise in predicting outcomes in various medical conditions.

Introduction: Glioblastoma (GBM) remains a challenging brain tumor to treat, with limited response to PD-1 immunotherapy due to tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), specifically the M2 phenotype. This study explores the potential of MS4A4A (membrane spanning four domains, subfamily A, member 4A) inhibition in driving M2 macrophage polarization toward the M1 phenotype via the ferroptosis pathway to enhance the effectiveness of immunotherapy in GBM.
Methods: Single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomic analyses were employed to characterize M2 macrophages and MS4A4A expression in GBM.

Background And Purpose: Studies on outcome comparison after endovascular treatment (EVT) for large vessel occlusion (LVO) between large artery atherosclerosis (LAA) and cardioembolism (CE) in the Asian population are scarce. We aimed to compare the baseline characteristics and clinical outcomes after EVT for anterior circulation LVO with LAA and CE in the Chinese population.
Methods: Patients were selected from the ANGEL registry and divided into LAA and CE groups.

Background: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a biliary epithelial malignant tumor with an increasing incidence worldwide. Therefore, further understanding of the molecular mechanisms of CCA progression is required to identify new therapeutic targets.
Methods: The expression of RPL35A in CCA and para-carcinoma tissues was detected by immunohistochemical staining.

Background: The heterogeneity of the tumor microenvironment significantly influences the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients, with cell communication through ligand-receptor complexes playing a central role.
Methods: We conducted single-cell transcriptomic analysis on ten HCC tissues to identify ligand-receptor genes involved in malignant HCC cell communication using CellChat. Leveraging RNA-Seq data from the TCGA Liver Cancer (TCGA-LIHC) and Liver Cancer - RIKEN, JP (LIRI-JP) cohorts, we employed Cox regression analysis to screen for prognosis-related genes.

The type 3 secretion system (T3SS) was obtained in many Gram-negative bacterial pathogens, and it is crucial for their pathogenesis. Environmental signals were found to be involved in the expression regulation of T3SS, which was vital for successful bacterial infection in the host. Here, we discovered that L-glutamine (Gln), the most abundant amino acid in the human body, could repress enterohemorrhagic (EHEC) T3SS expression nitrogen metabolism and therefore had potential as an antivirulence agent.

This investigator-initiated, multi-center trial prospective, randomized, open-label, blinded-endpoint, multi-center and phase-2 trial was conducted in China and completed in 2021. Eligible patients were randomly assigned (1:1) into the HDP group receiving -20° Trendelenburg, or control group receiving standard care according to national guideline.

Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is mainly used during cardiac surgeries that treat ischemic, valvular, or congenital heart disease and aortic dissections. The disorders of central nervous system (CNS) that occur after cardiopulmonary bypass are attracting considerable interest. Postoperative neurocognitive disorders (PND) have been reported as the leading cause of patients' disability and death following CPB.
