Enhancing Chordoma Radiotherapy: Ta@PVP Nanoparticles as Potent Radiosensitizers.

Surgical resection and high-dose radiotherapy constitute the standard therapeutic approaches for chordoma. However, the efficacy of radiotherapy is often compromised by the tumor microenvironment's hypoxic conditions, which confer radiation resistance, and by the potential damage to adjacent spinal cord and neural structures from elevated radiation doses. To address these challenges, we employed high biocompatible poly(vinylpyrrolidone)-modified tantalum nanoparticles (Ta@PVP NPs) as a potent radiosensitizer to augment the radiotherapy sensitivity of chordoma.

Adenocarcinoma of the rete testis: clinicopathological study of 18 cases with emphasis on MET amplification and a review of the literature.

Background: Knowledge regarding adenocarcinoma of the rete testis (ACRT) is extremely limited due to its scarcity.

Methods And Results: This study enrolled 18 patients with ACRT from multiple institutions. Clinicopathological and immunohistochemical features were investigated, together with a comprehensive review of 95 previously reported cases.

Lavender improves sleep through olfactory perception and GABAergic neurons of the central amygdala.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The use of lavender as sleep aid or hypnotic agent can be traced back as early as ancient Romans and Greeks. Yet, objective experimental data on whether and how lavender enhances sleep duration or/and sleep quality remain lacking.

Aim Of The Study: We aimed to characterize the sleep-wake regulating effects of lavender in the mouse and to demonstrate the brain targets and neural circuits involved.

The impact of metformin on mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: a prospective cohort study.

Background: Metformin, a widely used antihyperglycemic drug, has shown efficacy in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and is associated with potential benefits beyond glycemic control. This study investigates the impact of metformin on mortality in T2DM patients using a prospective cohort design utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

Methods: In NHANES 1999-2014, a total of 5813 representative participants aged 20 and above with T2DM were included in the analysis.

Effectiveness, safety, and treatment pattern of sodium zirconium cyclosilicate in Chinese patients with hyperkalemia: interim analysis from a multicenter, prospective, real-world study (Actualize Study).

Sodium zirconium cyclosilicate (SZC) is a nonabsorbed cation-exchanger approved in China for the treatment of hyperkalemia [HK; serum potassium (sK) levels >5.0 mmol/L]. This is the first real-world study aimed to assess the effectiveness, safety, and treatment patterns of SZC in Chinese patients with HK.

ResNeXt-CC: a novel network based on cross-layer deep-feature fusion for white blood cell classification.

Accurate diagnosis of white blood cells from cytopathological images is a crucial step in evaluating leukaemia. In recent years, image classification methods based on fully convolutional networks have drawn extensive attention and achieved competitive performance in medical image classification. In this paper, we propose a white blood cell classification network called ResNeXt-CC for cytopathological images.

Correlation between Tregs and ICOS-induced M2 macrophages polarization in colorectal cancer progression.

Objective: To explore the mechanism by which Tregs promote the progression of colorectal cancer by inducing tumor-associated macrophages to polarize into M2 type via ICOS.

Methods: Postoperative pathological tissues and clinical pathological data of 268 colorectal cancer patients who underwent initial surgery were collected. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to detect the expression levels of ICOS, CD163 (a marker for M2 macrophages), and Foxp3 (a marker for Tregs) in cancerous, adjacent non-tumorous, and normal tissues.

Targeting MS4A4A: A novel pathway to improve immunotherapy responses in glioblastoma.

Introduction: Glioblastoma (GBM) remains a challenging brain tumor to treat, with limited response to PD-1 immunotherapy due to tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), specifically the M2 phenotype. This study explores the potential of MS4A4A (membrane spanning four domains, subfamily A, member 4A) inhibition in driving M2 macrophage polarization toward the M1 phenotype via the ferroptosis pathway to enhance the effectiveness of immunotherapy in GBM.

Methods: Single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomic analyses were employed to characterize M2 macrophages and MS4A4A expression in GBM.

A randomized trial of Trendelenburg position for acute moderate ischemic stroke.

We aim to explore the effect of head-down position (HDP), initiated within 24 hours of onset, in moderate anterior circulation stroke patients with probable large artery atherosclerosis (LAA) etiology. This investigator-initiated, multi-center trial prospective, randomized, open-label, blinded-endpoint, multi-center and phase-2 trial was conducted in China and completed in 2021. Eligible patients were randomly assigned (1:1) into the HDP group receiving -20° Trendelenburg, or control group receiving standard care according to national guideline.

Methods: A multicenter, prospective study involving 108 consecutive patients with suspected cardiac masses based on transthoracic echocardiography performed between November 2019 and December 2020 was carried out. CE examinations were performed in all patients.
