Purpose: To investigate and compare the diagnostic performance of 10 different large language models (LLMs) and 2 board-certified general radiologists in thoracic radiology cases published by The Society of Thoracic Radiology.

Materials And Methods: We collected publicly available 124 "Case of the Month" from the Society of Thoracic Radiology website between March 2012 and December 2023. Medical history and imaging findings were input into LLMs for diagnosis and differential diagnosis, while radiologists independently visually provided their assessments.

Article Synopsis
  • There is a significant relationship between anxiety disorders (ADs) and cardiovascular issues like cardiovascular disease (CVD) and atrial fibrillation (AF), prompting a study on left atrial function in AD patients.
  • The study involved 48 AD patients and 33 healthy individuals, measuring various echocardiographic parameters, which revealed that AD patients had significantly lower left atrial function index (LAFI) and LV outflow tract velocity.
  • While several factors were found to correlate with AD, multivariate analysis showed that only body surface area and LV outflow tract velocity were independently associated with AD, indicating that impaired left atrial function is linked to lower LVOT-VTI rather than to LAFI itself.

İstanbul University - Cerrahpaşa, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Nephrology, İstanbul, Türkiye.

Article Synopsis
  • Two devastating earthquakes in Türkiye on February 6, 2023, resulted in significant injuries to 903 children, with a focus on crush syndrome-related acute kidney injury (Crush-AKI) and mortality.
  • The study tracked various factors, including the time under rubble, treatment protocols, and patient outcomes, revealing that Crush-AKI developed in 36% of the patients, and over half required dialysis.
  • Key findings included that serum levels of creatine phosphokinase above 20,950 U/L and inadequate initial intravenous fluid volume were linked to Crush-AKI, and most deaths occurred among those with Crush-AKI within the first four days of admission.

Kidney failure patients on chronic hemodialysis are at risk for cardiovascular complications. Dry weight (DW), one of the dialysis parameters, should be optimized to reduce the complications caused by high blood pressure. By definition, DW is the lowest weight at which patients are clinically euvolemic, not hypotensive or hypertensive after dialysis, and do not require antihypertensives.
