Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM), an aggressive cancer associated with exposure to fibrous minerals, can only be diagnosed in the advanced stage because its early symptoms are also connected with other respiratory diseases. Hence, understanding the molecular mechanism and the discrimination of MPM from other lung diseases at an early stage is important to apply effective treatment strategies and for the increase in survival rate. This study aims to develop a new approach for characterization and diagnosis of MPM among lung diseases from serum by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) coupled with multivariate analysis.

We evaluated the effect of using a tourniquet on early-stage pain and 1-year postoperative functional outcomes when patients were divided into two groups according to the pain threshold (PT). Overall, 120 patients who were assessed preoperatively with an algometer were recruited for this prospective, double-blinded, randomized controlled trial. Patients were randomized to undergo total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with a tourniquet (group 1, 60 patients) and without tourniquet (group 2, 60 patients).

We aimed to compare isolated percutaneous plantar fascia release by using a needle versus percutaneous plantar fascia release combined with calcaneal decompression in treatment of the patients with resistant heel pain. We reviewed the prospectively recorded data of patients who treated and follow-up for resistant heel pain (treated more than 6 months with other treatment modalities) with a minimum 1-year follow-up. Twenty patients were treated with plantar fascia release using a needle (group 1) and 21 patients were treated with a similar percutaneous release combined with calcaneal decompression (group 2).

Lead exposure has etiological role on cardiovascular system diseases as hypertension, atherosclerosis, stroke, and arrhythmic events. In this study, we aimed to compare the basal and arrhythmogenic ECG parameters of lead exposed workers before and after chelation therapy and to evaluate the effect of acute change of blood lead levels on ECG. Fourty consecutive occupationally lead exposed workers were enrolled, demographic, blood, echocardiographic, and electrocardiographic data's were analyzed before and after chelation therapy.

Purpose: To investigate topographic, tomographic, topometric, densitometric, and aberrometric parameters in subclinical keratoconus with the Pentacam HR imaging system.
Methods: Data of 3128 patients were evaluated, finding in 108 patients clinical keratoconus in one eye and subclinical keratoconus in the other. Corneal topographic, tomographic, topometric, densitometric, and aberrometric values obtained using the Pentacam HR imaging system were compared between clinical keratoconus, subclinical keratoconus, and normal eyes.

As coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spreads across the world, the ongoing clinical trials are leading to a big race worldwide to develop a treatment that will help control the pandemic. Unfortunately, COVID-19 does not have any known effective treatment with reliable study results yet. In this pandemic, there is not a lot of time to develop a new specific agent because of the rapid spread of the disease.

Lower extremity amputation as a treatment of diabetic foot ulcer is probably a major burden for the patient's family and friends, who typically act as caregivers and support the patient in coping with the physical disabilities and emotional distress. In the present prospective study, we investigated the effects of different lower extremity amputation levels for diabetic foot ulcer treatment on caregivers of patients with diabetes using the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI-12) scale. Patients with diabetic foot ulcers who underwent unilateral major amputation (above-below knee) and minor amputation of foot (heel sparing) and their caregivers were requested to volunteer to participate in this study from June 2016 to December 2018.
