In this study, we evaluated the cochlea, medial olivocochlear system, and brainstem function in autistic children using evoked otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) and a noninvasive contralateral suppression (CLS) test. In total, we included 21 autistic children with normal hearing (study group) and 11 healthy children (control group). Transient-evoked OAEs (TEOAEs) and CLS of TEOAE were evaluated in the left and right ears of all patients.

Methods: The study was conducted on 58 patients diagnosed with inferior turbinate hypertrophy. The patients were randomly divided into two groups according to the treatment they receive.

Smoking is known to increase laryngeal inflammation and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), which cause laryngeal irritation. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the changes in the symptoms and the findings of laryngeal irritation in smokers after a smoking cessation period. The reflux symptom index (RSI) and the reflux finding score (RFS) were used for evaluating the symptoms and findings of laryngeal irritation in smokers.

The Relationship of Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex With Self-Reported Dizziness Handicap in Patients With Vestibular Deafferentation.

The relationship between objective vestibular tests and subjective vestibular tests is a controversial topic. In this study, to contribute to this issue, the vestibulo-ocular reflex features and their relationship with balance perception at long-term follow-up in vestibular neurectomy (VN) and total labyrentectomy patients were evaluated. Prospectively, 19 VN and 18 labyrinthectomy patients were enrolled in this study.

Increased carotid artery intima-media thickness in patients with tympanosclerosis: Common risk factors with atherosclerosis?

We investigated the relationship between tympanosclerosis, known atherosclerotic risk factors, and the intima-media thickness of bilateral carotid arteries using ultrasonography. A total of 122 patients admitted to our clinic with chronic otitis media between 2005 and 2010 were included in the study. The study group consisted of 61 patients with tympanosclerosis; the control group comprised 61 patients without tympanosclerosis.
