The transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor 1 (ROR1) has acted on the causation and sustentation of mature B-cell lymphomagenesis for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells. The study attempted to show whether there is a relationship between the level of ROR1 surface expression in CLL cells and disease findings. The level of ROR1 cell surface expression was determined in accordance with the flow cytometric analysis of CLL patients at the first diagnosis time.

Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is very common in people who inject drugs (PWID). Studies about the prevalence and genotype distribution of the HCV among PWID are very crucial for developing strategies to manage HCV infection. This study's objective is to map the distribution of HCV genotypes among PWID from various regions of Turkey.

Background: Clinical care of patients with cancer mostly focuses on medical management with less attention on disease-related malnutrition. The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) released new criteria for diagnosing malnutrition, but the validation of these criteria in treatment-naïve patients with cancer is not well documented. This study aimed to investigate the application of the GLIM criteria in nutrition assessment and mortality prediction in treatment-naïve patients with cancer.

Background And Purpose: Previous studies have proposed multiple parallel channels for waste clearance from the brain, though many gaps remain in our understanding of these systems. In this study, we examined periarterial fluid drainage around intracranial and extracranial segments of the internal carotid arteries (ICAs) from the brain into the cervical lymph nodes using a noninvasive and clinical-based method.
Methods: Eighty-one subjects (45 females, aged 15-80 years old) with nonlesioned epilepsy underwent high-resolution 3-dimensional T2-weighted fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) MRI.

Background: Increased bone turnover is a hallmark of hyperthyroidism. The underlying factors of how thyroid hormones affect bone cells are still under the spotlight. Previous studies indicated serum osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of NF-kB ligand (RANKL), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) as mediators of the effect of thyroid hormones on bone metabolism.

In the search of theoretical models describing cancer, one of promising directions is chaos. It is connected to ideas of "genome chaos" and "life on the edge of chaos", but they profoundly differ in the meaning of the term "chaos". To build any coherent models, notions used by both ideas should be firstly brought closer.

Background: The number and proportion of elderly patients living with chronic hepatitis C are expected to increase in the coming years. We aimed to compare the real-world efficacy and safety of direct-acting antiviral treatment in elderly and younger Turkish adults infected with chronic hepatitis C.
Methods: In this multicenter prospective study, 2629 eligible chronic hepatitis C patients treated with direct-acting antivirals between April 2017 and December 2019 from 37 Turkish referral centers were divided into 2 age groups: elderly (≥65 years) and younger adults (<65 years) and their safety was compared between 2 groups in evaluable population.

Objectives: Although the relationship between breast cancer (BC) risk factors and mammographic density (MD) patterns is not clear, high MD is well known as an independent risk factor for BC. Thus, the aim of this study was to examine the association between MD and BC risk factors in BC patients and find a correlation between MD and tumor characteristics in BC patients.
Methods: Our data included 242 patients with BC.

Background: Many predictive factors and scoring systems associated with Fournier's gangrene have been proposed, including comorbidities, vital signs, biochemical and hematological parameters, and demographic characteristics of the patient. The aim of this study was to determine the strengths of the scoring systems that have been formed by revealing these factors from a wider perspective and in a larger patient population.
Methods: The patient population included 144 patients, 21 of whom died.

Background And Purpose: Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms. Levodopa is the most effective drug in the symptomatic treatment of the disease. Dopamine receptor agonists provide sustained dopamin-ergic stimulation and have been found to delay the initiation of levodopa treatment and reduce the frequency of various motor complications due to the long-term use of levodopa.

Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC) is a rare genetically heterogeneous group of autosomal recessive liver disorders that manifests as intrahepatic cholestasis during the neonatal period. ATP8B1, ABCB11, and ABCB4 genes are responsible for PFIC type 1, PFIC type 2, and PFIC type 3, respectively. To determine the underlying molecular etiology of PFIC, 80 patients from 77 families were investigated.
