Comparison of Cyclophosphamide-Based Graft Versus Host Disease Prophylaxis after "Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation from 9/10 HLA Matched Unrelated Donor'' with Standard Graft Versus Host Disease Prophylaxis after "10/10 HLA Matched Relative Donor'' Transplant.

Graft Versus Host Disease (GvHD), which can be observed at a rate of 30-80% after allogeneic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is an important complication that adversely affects the survival and quality of the life of patientsPosttransplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy) effectively prevents GvHD after HLA-haploidentical ASCT. In our study, the use of PTCy in 1-antigen HLA-mismatched unrelated donor (9/10MMUD) ASCT was compared with standard GvHD prophylaxis in HLA-identical related donor (MRD) ASCT. We conducted a retrospective study of the comparison of 42 patients with 9/10 MMUD ASCT receiving PTCy+Methotrexate (MTX)+Calcineurin Inhibitor (CNI) and 37 patients with HLA-identical MRD who received MTX+CNI  in 3 bone marrow transplantation centers.

Incidental parathyroidectomy (IP) is a complication seen at varying rates after thyroid surgery, and its relationship with postoperative hypocalcemia has not been clarified. In this study, our goal was to identify the frequency and risk factors for IP in a large patient cohort and assess its correlation with postoperative hypocalcemia. A total of 4052 patients who underwent thyroid surgery between 2008 and 2020 were reviewed retrospectively.

Apheresis product total CD34 cell count prediction at peripheral stem cell collection via a formula: A multicenter study.

Introduction: Effective mobilization of Stem Cells(SCs) to peripheral blood (PB) is crucial for obtaining sufficient CD34 cell numbers via apheresis. The ratio of pre-apheresis PB CD34 cells is the best parameter for predicting the product CD34 cell count. However, quantitating CD34 PB cells requires flow cytometry, which usually takes two or more hours to obtain the results.

Evaluation of treatment outcomes and tolerability in older patients with rectal cancer treated with radiotherapy accompanied by the G-8 geriatric score: TROD13-003 multicenter study.

Introduction: The choice of treatment for rectal cancer often differs in older and younger patients, with the rate of radiotherapy use lower among older adults. In our daily practice, when evaluating a frail older patient with rectal cancer, we usually choose to give less treatment. This may be due to concern that the patient will not be able to tolerate radiotherapy.

Comparison of Infectious Complications in Patients Receiving High-Dose Cyclophosphamide as GvHD Prophylaxis After Transplantation From A 9/10 HLA-Matched Unrelated Donor with Standard GvHD Prophylaxis After Transplant From A Fully Matched Related Donor.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether cyclophosphamide administered after allogeneic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) from 9/10 HLA-Matched Unrelated Donors (MMUD) increases the rates of bacterial, fungal, viral infections, complications (hemorrhagic cystitis (HC)), and infection-related mortality compared to allogeneic stem cell transplantation from matched related donors (MRD).

Methods: This is a retrospective multicenter study. 45 MMUD ASCT patients who received posttransplant cyclophosphamide+methotrexate+calcineurin inhibitor compared with 45 MRD ASCT patients who received methotrexate+calcineurin inhibitor.

Perception of color mismatch or conspicuous marginal adaptation in extraoral prostheses with eye-tracking.

Statement Of Problem: Color matching and marginal integrity are major challenges when providing extraoral maxillofacial prostheses. Which of the color and marginal harmony features are more important for the extraoral prostheses to be inconspicuous is unclear. Studies on the perception of these prostheses with objective evaluation criteria are lacking.

The effect of local vibration applied to the forearm extensor muscles on hand function and muscle activation in stroke patients: a randomized controlled study.

Objective: This study aims to reveal the effect of low-frequency local vibration applied to the forearm extensor muscles on stroke patients' muscle activation and hand functions.

Methods: Twenty-four stroke patients were randomized to the vibration group (n = 12) or control group (n = 12). The vibration was applied at a 30 Hz frequency to the forearm extensor muscles with a local vibration device three days a week after the routine, conventional physical therapy sessions for four weeks.

Treatment efficacy of ribociclib or palbociclib plus letrozole in hormone receptor-positive/HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer.

Ribociclib, palbociclib and abemaciclib are currently approved CDK4/6 inhibitors along with aromatase inhibitors as the first-line standard-of-care for patients with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer. The authors report retrospective real-life data for 600 patients with estrogen receptor- and/or progesterone receptor-positive and HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer who were treated with ribociclib and palbociclib in combination with letrozole. The results demonstrated that the combination of palbociclib or ribociclib with letrozole has similar progression-free survival and overall survival benefit in real life for the patient group with similar clinical features.

The Resilience Scale for Parents of Children with Cancer: Scale development and psychometric evaluation.

Objective: This study aimed to develop a Resilience Scale for Parents of Children with Cancer (RSP-CC) designed specifically for parents of children with cancer and to evaluate its psychometric properties.

Methods: Based on the Resilience Model for Families of Children with Cancer, items were created after an extensive literature review and evaluated through expert consultation and a pilot study. Psychometric evaluation was conducted with the parents of 601 children with cancer in the pediatric hematology oncology services of different hospitals in the Ankara and Kayseri provinces in Turkey.

Relationship Between Vitamin D Levels and β Cell Function and Insulin Resistance.

Background This study aimed to determine the relationship between vitamin D levels and β cell function and insulin resistance in patients with diabetes, glucose tolerance disorder, or impaired fasting glucose. Methodology A total of 75 outpatients (55 females and 20 males) between the ages of 30 and 65 years were included in the study. There were 25 healthy individuals, 25 individuals with prediabetes, and 25 individuals with diabetes.

The association of antiviral drugs with COVID-19 morbidity: The retrospective analysis of a nationwide COVID-19 cohort.

Background And Objectives: Although several repurposed antiviral drugs have been used for the treatment of COVID-19, only a few such as remdesivir and molnupiravir have shown promising effects. The objectives of our study were to investigate the association of repurposed antiviral drugs with COVID-19 morbidity.

Methods: Patients admitted to 26 different hospitals located in 16 different provinces between March 11-July 18, 2020, were enrolled.

Purpose: Orbital epitheses replace a missing eyeball and surrounding soft tissue. Perception of epithesis in public gaze and the attention areas on the face are of interest. This study aimed to examine the differences in perception of orbital epitheses by prosthodontists, dentistry students, and laypeople with an objective evaluation tool that utilized eye-tracking technology.

The Effect of Knowledge Levels of Breastfeeding Mothers About the Disease on Their Levels of Anxiety During the COVID-19 Pandemic Process.

Background: The health impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) spans across all age groups including mothers and their newly born infants; and breastfeeding women during this pandemic deserves special attention due to its short and long-term health implications. When planning the current study, our hypothesis was that the anxiety of transmitting the COVID-19 disease to the baby through breastfeeding would increase among breastfeeding women and it would predominantly be state anxiety. The current study aims to investigate the relationship between the knowledge levels of breastfeeding mothers about COVID-19 and their anxiety levels.

Morning blood pressure surge in renal transplant recipients: Its relation to graft function and arterial stiffness.

Background: When the blood pressure rises before awakening in the morning, it is called as morning blood pressure pulse (MBPS). MBPS is considered to be an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the associations between MBPS, graft function, arterial stiffness and echocardiographic indices in renal transplant recipients.

Objective: To investigate the effects of local vibration applied to the plantar region of the foot on static and dynamic balance in stroke patients.

Indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase-related anti-inflammatory effects of 3-aminobenzamide and infliximab in experimental colitis.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the presence of indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase and bacterial translocation after the administration of 3-aminobenzamide and infliximab in the TNBS model of rat colitis.

Methods: The study group was divided into five categories as follows: group 1: (control), group 2: colitis+saline, group 3: colitis+3-aminobenzamide, group 4: colitis+infliximab, and group 5: colitis+3-aminobenzamide+infliximab. Intestinal mesenteric cultures were incubated on specific agar media plates under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, bacterial translocation was evaluated and assessed as colony-forming units per gram of tissue.

Investigation of Mitophagy Biomarkers in Corneal Epithelium of Keratoconus Patients.

Purpose: The pathological mechanisms of keratoconus (KC) have not been elucidated yet. Mitophagy is an important mechanism that eliminates damaged mitochondria under oxidative stress, and it could be one of the leading pathological causes of KC. This study aimed to find out the role of mitophagy in the keratoconic corneal epithelium.

The predictors of COVID-19 mortality in a nationwide cohort of Turkish patients.

The COVID-19-related death rate varies between countries and is affected by various risk factors. This multicenter registry study was designed to evaluate the mortality rate and the related risk factors in Turkey. We retrospectively evaluated 1500 adults with COVID-19 from 26 centers who were hospitalized between March 11 and July 31, 2020.

Evaluation of common carotid artery in type 1 diabetes mellitus patients through speckle tracking carotid strain ultrasonography.

Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of speckle tracking carotid strain (STCS) technique, which enables measurement of arterial stiffness and strain parameters, in the detection of early atherosclerotic findings in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).

Methods: We prospectively enrolled 30 T1DM patients and 30 age- and sex-matched control participants with no history of cardiovascular disease. All study population underwent carotid ultrasonography.

Improved disease-free survival with adjuvant radiotherapy in early-stage endometrial cancer: 10-year outcome analysis.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate long-term treatment outcomes and prognostic factors affecting survival of patients with early-stage endometrial carcinoma.

Material And Methods: Data of 311 patients with FIGO stage I-II endometrial cancer, curatively treated at two different tertiary centers between June 2001 and December 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. The patients had primary surgery, 74 (24%) received no further treatment, 4 (1%) obtained chemotherapy only, 234 (75%) received radiotherapy, and 24 (7%) received both.

COVID-19 Pandemic and the Global Perspective of Turkish Thoracic Society.

It has been more than 3 months now since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in Turkey. Globally, the number of confirmed cases and deaths reached 9,653,048 and 491,128 respectively, as reported by 216 countries by June 27, 2020. Turkey had 1,396 new cases, 194,511 total cases, and 5,065 deaths by the same date.
