Determination of Serum Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Levels in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A Case Control Study.

Objective: The effect of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on neuronal development is known, but its relationship with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a neurodevelopmental disorder, has not yet been fully elucidated. To our knowledge, this is the first human study investigating serum VEGF levels in ADHD patients. In this study, it has been aimed to compare serum VEGF levels between a healthy control group and in ADHD patients to help determine the association between serum VEGF levels and ADHD.

The effect of hypoxia on hearing function.

Background/aim: This study was conducted to determine the critical partial oxygen pressure (pO2) value that would impair hearing function by evaluating the effects of hypoxia on hearing function in subjects diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (CPOD).

Materials And Methods: The study included 25 male and 5 female patients referred to our clinic who were diagnosed with COPD, according to spirometry and PaO2 values, and who did not show pathology upon autoscopic examination. The control group consisted of 14 female and 16 male patients who had no lung disease and were in the same age range as the COPD group.

A New Practical Intracerebral Hematoma Volume Calculation Method and Comparison to simple ABC/2.

Aim: To find a more practical and effective formula than simple ABC/2 (sABC/2) to calculate the hematoma volume in patients with subdural and parenchymal haemorrhage.

Material And Methods: We reviewed the records of 157 patients who underwent brain computed tomography examinations for stroke from January to October 2017. Our method, sABC/2 formula, and the planimetric method (the gold standard) were used for measuring the volumes of hematoma.

A Distinct Clinical Phenotype in Two Siblings with X-linked Adrenoleukodystrophy.

Objectives: X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy(X-ALD) is a rare X-linked recessive metabolic disorder. The mutations in the ATP Binding Cassette Subfamily D Member 1 (ABCD1) gene account for the underlying molecular mechanism. Herein, we present two siblings with X-ALD due to a missense, presumably identical, ABCD1 mutation, who had extremely distinct clinical phenotypes.

Risk factors for recurrences in patients with hepatitis C virus after achieving a sustained virological response: a multicentre study from Turkey.

In this study, we aimed to determine the late relapse rate in hepatitis C patients with sustained virological response after interferon-based regimens, and evaluated the predictors of late relapse while comparing the real-life data of our country with that of others. A multicenter retrospective study was performed to investigate the data of patients infected with HCV who obtained sustained virological response after classical or pegylated interferon alpha (PegIFNα) and ribavirin (RBV) for 48 weeks. Sustained virological response was based on negative HCV RNA level by PCR at the end of six months after the therapy.

Background: Neonatal jaundice (NNJ) is common, but few root cause analyses based on national quality registries have been performed. An online registry was established to estimate the incidence of NNJ in Turkey and to facilitate a root cause analysis of NNJ and its complications.

Methods: A multicenter prospective study was conducted on otherwise healthy newborns born at ≥35 weeks of gestation and hospitalized for only NNJ in 50 collaborator neonatal intensive care units across Turkey over a 1-year period.
