Background: Extracorporeal blood purification has been widely used in intensive care medicine, nephrology, toxicology, and other fields. During the last decade, with the emergence of new adsorptive blood purification devices, hemoadsorption has been increasingly applied during CPB in cardiac surgery, for patients at different inflammatory risks, or for postoperative complications. Clinical evidence so far has not provided definite answers concerning this adjunctive treatment.

This festival is celebrated every year in Muslim countries; however, it is a time in which patients present to the emergency department with serious injuries. In our study, we examined current injuries occurring during Eid al-Adha in one of the largest hospitals in Türkiye, providing the largest patient population to date.

Pins and Rubbers Traction System for Treatment of Intraarticular Fractures of Distal Interphalangeal Joint.

The pins and rubber traction system (PRTS) has proven effective in managing intra-articular fractures of the proximal interphalangeal joint. However, there is scant evidence in the literature regarding its efficacy in treating distal interphalangeal joint (DIPJ). This study aims to investigate the outcomes of PRTS in the treatment of comminuted intra-articular fractures of the DIPJ.

In this study, we applied the EUCAST RAST method to ESBL/carbapenemase-producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates without using advanced identification systems and analysed the effect of this method on mortality rates Also the clinical impact of this method on patients infected with these bacteria and its effect on mortality rates were investigated.

Methods: RAST was used for clinical blood cultures containing carbapenemase/ESBL-producing E.

Impact of COVID-19 on Management and Outcomes of Oncology Patients: Results of MENA COVID-19 and Cancer Registry (MCCR).

Introduction: Despite extensive studies of the impact of COVID-19 on patients with cancer, there is a dearth of information from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Our study aimed to report pertinent MENA COVID-19 and Cancer Registry (MCCR) findings on patient management and outcomes.

Methods: MCCR was adapted from the American Society of Clinical Oncology COVID-19 Registry to collect data specifically from patients with cancer and SARS-CoV-2 infection from 12 centers in eight countries including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, Algeria, United Arab Emirates, and Morocco.

Fecal leukocyte frequency in children with acute viral gastroenteritis: a single-center experience.

Objective: Our objective was to determine the frequency of rotavirus, adenovirus, and rota-adenovirus co-infections and investigate the fecal leukocyte rate associated with these infections in patients with gastroenteritis.

Methods: This is a retrospective study. We identified patients who were admitted to the pediatric emergency department with acute gastroenteritis and had their stool samples tested for rotavirus and/or adenovirus antigens.

Bronchiectasis in Türkiye: Data from a Multicenter Registry (Turkish Adult Bronchiectasis Database).

Background: Bronchiectasis is a chronic lung disease characterized by permanent bronchial wall dilatation. Although it has been known as an orphan disease, it has recently gained attention because of registry-based studies and drug research.

Aims: We aimed to use a multicenter database to analyze and compare data regarding the etiology, associated comorbidities, microbiological characteristics, and preventive strategies of bronchiectasis in Türkiye to those of other countries.

Metastases and Primary Brain Tumors Affecting the Fornix of the Brain.

Background The aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical and radiological findings of metastatic tumors and primary brain tumors affecting the fornix. Methods  Between January 2015 and March 2023, we retrospectively evaluated 1087 patients of both sexes who underwent cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for a preliminary diagnosis of intracranial malignancy in the radiology department of our hospital. Two radiologists with six and 10 years of experience in MRI examination assessed the relationship between primary and metastatic tumors and the fornix.

Relationship between HER2-low status and efficacy of CDK4/6 inhibitors in advanced breast cancer: a real-world study.

Aims And Objectives: Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-low breast cancer (BC) is a new entity considered a biologically distinct subtype from HER2-zero BC. However, the importance of HER2 low expression on the activity of cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) remains unclear.

Methods/materials: We conducted a single-center retrospective study including hormone receptor-positive (HR +) /HER2- metastatic BC (mBC) patients treated with CDK4/6i plus endocrine treatment (ET) as first-line therapy.

Prominent Neurosurgery Books of the Western World: How They Defined the Era of Modern Neurosurgery in the 19 Century.

The aim of this article is to introduce the 19th century neurosurgery books to reveal their contributions to modern neurosurgery. Methods In this study, 29 books were accessed, and reviewed, and the resources from the late 18th century and early 20th century were included. However, neurology or general surgery books that included neurosurgical subjects or chapter were excluded unless there were revolutionary ideas in their relevant chapters.

Background: Immunoglobulin A (IgA) nephropathy (IgAN) treatment consists of maximal supportive care and, for high-risk individuals, immunosuppressive treatment (IST). There are conflicting results regarding IST. Therefore, we aimed to investigate IST results among IgAN patients in Turkiye.

How Successful Are APRI and FIB-4 Scores in Predicting Liver Fibrosis in Chronic Hepatitis B Patients?

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the correlation of fibrosis severity in liver biopsies, the gold standard for the diagnosis of patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), using noninvasive methods such as the aspartate aminotransferase (AST)-to-platelet ratio index (APRI) and fibrosis-4 score (FIB-4).

Materials And Methods: The study included patients who were followed and treated for CHB in 2018-2023. Biochemical markers and liver biopsy findings of the cases were retrospectively, and their correlations with APRI and FIB-4, which are noninvasive scores, were compared.

This cross-sectional study investigated the effect of maternal sleep quality in late pregnancy on prenatal, birth and early postnatal outcomes. The research was conducted in three parts with women at 28 or more weeks of gestation. In the first part, pregnant women admitted for delivery were evaluated in terms of eligibility criteria.

Purpose: To analyze the visual and anatomical outcomes for eyes with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) and advanced proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) undergoing giant peripheral retinotomy (GPR) using 25-gauge pars plana vitrectomy (PPV).

Methods: In this retrospective multi-center study, patients with RRD with either anteroposterior or circumferential retinal shortening and advanced PVR requiring more than 90-degree GPR with/without relaxing retinotomy were included. Subjects of either gender, any age group, and with complete surgical notes were included.
