Exploring the prognostic value of HK3 and its association with immune infiltration in glioblastoma multiforme.

Front Genet

January 2023

Clinical Research Center for Shaanxi Provincial Radiotherapy, Department of Radiation Oncology, Shaanxi Provincial Cancer Hospital, Xi'an, China.

Hexokinase 3 (HK3) is one of the key enzymes involved in glucose phosphorylation (the first step in most glucose metabolic pathways). Many studies have demonstrated the vital role of dysregulation of HK3 in several tumors. However, there is a need for in-depth characterization of the role of HK3 in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).

Background: Mapping memory ability is highly correlated with an orienteer's level, and spatial memory tasks of different difficulties can reveal the spatial cognitive characteristics of high-level athletes.

Methods: An "expert-novice" experimental paradigm was used to monitor behavioral performance and changes in cerebral blood oxygen concentration in orienteering athletes with tasks of different difficulty and cognitive load using functional near-infrared spectroscopic imaging (fNIRS).

Results: (1) there was no difference between high-/low-level athletes' map recognition and memory abilities in the non-orienteering scenario; (2) with increasing task difficulty, both high-/low-level athletes showed significantly decreasing behavioral performance, reduced correctness, longer reaction time, and strengthened cerebral blood oxygen activation concentration.

Iron plaque effects on selenium and cadmium stabilization in Cd-contaminated seleniferous rice seedlings.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

February 2023

Ankang Se-Resources Hi-Tech Co., Ltd, Ankang, 725000, China.

Dietary intake of selenium (Se)-enriched rice has benefit for avoiding Se-deficient disease, but there is a risk of excessive cadmium (Cd) intake. Through hydroponic culture and adsorption-desorption experiments, this paper focused on Se and Cd uptake in rice seedlings associated with the interactive effects of Se (Se or Se), Cd, and iron (Fe) plaque. The formation of Fe plaque was promoted by Fe and inhibited by Cd but not related with Se species.

High-voltage manganese-based materials are considered as promising cathode materials for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). Herein, oxygen vacancy-rich K Mn O sheets were anchored uniformly onto honeycomb-like interconnected carbon nanoflakes (CNF@K Mn O ) for AZIB cathode applications. In the composite, the CNFs provided excellent intergranular electron transport capability, while the oxygen vacancies enhanced the electron transport efficiency inside crystals, and the embedded K ions expanded the interlayer spacing and stabilized the layered crystal structure.

Abnormal alterations in enzymes functioned in sialic acid modifications may be associated with ASD. In order to study the differences in peripheral blood sialidase (neuraminidase 1; NEU1) mRNA expression between autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children and healthy control, and to examine the correlation between NEU1 mRNA expression and the main behavioral phenotypes in children with ASD, we performed RT-qPCR to measure NEU1 mRNA expression in peripheral blood of 42 children with ASD and 42 healthy controls. In addition, we used the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) to measure and evaluate the behavioral phenotypes of children with ASD.

Background: The present study aimed 1) to examine the effects of epidemic-related job stressors, perceived social support and organizational support on the burnout and well-being of Chinese healthcare workers in the period of COVID-19 regular epidemic prevention and control and 2) to investigate the moderating effects of social support and organizational support on the relationship between job stressors and burnout and well-being within the theoretical framework of the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model.

Methods: A sample of healthcare workers (N = 3477) from 22 hospitals in Beijing, China participated in the cross-sectional investigation in October 2020 and reported epidemic-related job stressors, perceived social support, organizational support, burnout, anxiety and depression symptoms.

Results: 1) Medical doctors, females, people aged from 30 to 50, and those who worked in the second line during the pandemic reported higher scores of psychological symptoms and burnout in the period of regular epidemic prevention and control; 2) Epidemic-related job stressors positively predicted burnout, anxiety, and depression among healthcare workers; 3) Perceived social support and organizational support were negatively related to reported burnout, anxiety and depression symptoms; 4) Social support reduced the adverse effects of epidemic-related job stressors on anxiety and depression but enhanced the association between stressors and burnout; 5) Organizational support mitigated the adverse effects of epidemic-related job stressors on depression.
