A 3-year-old castrated male golden retriever was presented for evaluation of 2 cutaneous masses along the abdominal midline and a 6-month history of progressive lethargy and inappetence. Feline chronic gingivostomatitis (FCGS) is a chronic mucosal and gingival inflammatory disease in which pathogenesis remains unclear. Interactions between the host inflammatory process, the host immune response, and the oral microbiome are implicated in this pathogenesis. While alterations in the gut metabolome have been extensively studied in humans and dogs with gastrointestinal disorders, little is known about the specific metabolic profile of cats with CE. As lipids take part in energy storage, inflammation, and cellular structure, investigating the lipid profile in cats with CE is crucial.

The purpose of this retrospective cohort study was to determine prevalence of sternal lymphadenopathy in a population of dogs undergoing splenectomy, and to evaluate if the prevalence was associated with splenic malignancy. In addition, the study investigated if survival in dogs diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma (HSA) differed between those with or without sternal lymphadenopathy at the time of surgery. Objective:  The aim of this study was to compare radiographic outcomes of open reduction versus fluoroscopic-guided closed reduction (FGCR) of sacroiliac fracture-luxations stabilized with a lag screw, as well as peri- and postoperative complications.

Study Design:  Medical records (2010-2015) and radiographs of dogs and cats diagnosed with sacroiliac fracture-luxation that underwent open reduction without fluoroscopic guidance ( = 24) or FGCR ( = 17) were retrospectively reviewed to assess sacroiliac fracture-luxation reduction and lag screw placement, and lag screw loosening on follow-up radiographs (range, 1-8 weeks postoperatively) when available. Peri- and postoperative complications were also recorded.

We described the diagnosis and successful treatment of pleural and peritoneal effusion secondary to liver lobe torsion in a dog. A 12-year-old female spayed Borzoi dog was referred for heart failure. Emergency room thoracic and abdominal ultrasound showed a large volume of pleural effusion with mild peritoneal effusion and an abdominal mass.

A 3-year-old male castrated domestic shorthair cat was presented with an acute history of lethargy and decreased appetite. Pertinent physical examination abnormalities included palpable irregularity of the right kidney and pain on palpation of the left kidney. Ultrasonographic imaging of the abdomen revealed gas present at the corticomedullary junction of the left kidney, consistent with emphysematous pyelonephritis, as well as emphysematous cystitis.

Pathologic right-sided heart changes are a common echocardiographic finding in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH). Canines with PH may have right heart pathology documented via echocardiographic color Doppler interrogation including tricuspid valve regurgitation, pulmonic valve insufficiency, elevated pulmonary arterial systolic pressure, elevated pulmonary arterial diastolic pressure, and alterations in ejection profiles. Two-dimensional echocardiographic findings may include right ventricular hypertrophy, interventricular septal flattening, paradoxical interventricular septal motion, pulmonary artery dilation, and potentially abnormal left heart dimensions.
