Article Synopsis
  • Lung injury is a common issue in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) that often goes unnoticed early on, impacting patients' quality of life and contributing to their mortality.
  • The study used tandem mass tag-labeled proteomics to analyze lung tissue from RA model rats with secondary lung injury, identifying 310 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) to better understand their role in this condition.
  • Significant findings included upregulation of pathways related to fatty acid metabolism and inflammation, suggesting potential biomarkers for early diagnosis and targets for therapeutic intervention in RA-related lung injuries.

Cryptotanshinone (CPT), a major biological active ingredient extracted from root of Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen), has shown several pharmacological activities. However, the effect of CPT on radiation-induced lung fibrosis (RILF) is unknown. In this study, we explored the protective effects of CPT on RILF from gut-lung axis angle, specifically focusing on the bile acid (BA)-gut microbiota axis.

Tumor necrosis factor-stimulated gene-6 (TSG-6) exhibits promising neuroprotective activity, but how it influences cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (CIR) injury remains to be established. Here, the impact of TSG-6 on the CIR-induced disturbance in the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and associated neurological degeneration was assessed, and the related molecular processes were explored. In this study, TSG-6 markedly reduced CIR-mediated increases in neurological deficit scores, decreased infarct volume, and protected against the apoptotic death of neurons in MCAO/R model rats.

Background: Patients with hepatic reticulum degeneration (HLD) may eventually develop complications of cirrhosis with splenomegaly and hypersplenism, requiring splenectomy to alleviate hypersplenism and complete lifelong copper therapy. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of splenectomy on liver function in patients with hypersplenism.

Methods: A retrospective systematic analysis was conducted on the liver function indicators of 220 HLD patients who underwent splenectomy from January 2015 to January 2018 before surgery and on days 1, 3, 5, 7, and 14 after surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of Shibing Xingnao Granules in treating patients with vascular dementia (VD) alongside acupuncture therapy.
  • The study involved 78 VD patients divided into a control group (acupuncture only) and an observation group (acupuncture + Shibing Xingnao Granules), measuring clinical outcomes, cognitive function, and serum levels of apoptosis-related molecules.
  • Results indicated that the observation group had significantly better treatment outcomes, with higher improvement rates in mental and daily functioning and more favorable changes in serum markers associated with neuronal health.

Objective: To explore the mechanism of recipe for improving cigarette smoke- induced inflammatory injury and mucus hypersecretion in cultured human bronchial epithelial cells.

Methods: Serum samples were collected from 40 SD rats treated with recipe (=20) or normal saline (=20) by gavage. Cultured human bronchial epithelial 16HBE cells were stimulated with an aqueous cigarette smoke extract (CSE), followed by treatment with the collected serum at different dilutions.

Revealing platelet-related subtypes and prognostic signature in pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

BMC Med Genomics

May 2023

Department of Oncology, Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200032, China.

Background: Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a malignant tumor with high heterogeneity and poor prognosis. In this study, we sought to identify the value of platelet-related genes in prognosis and heterogeneity of PDAC through multiple transcriptomic methods.

Methods: Based on datasets from Gene Expression Omnibus and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), platelet-related genes were screened out, and the TCGA cohort (n = 171) was identified into two subtypes by unsupervised clustering.

Objective: To investigate potential biomarkers for the early detection of cognitive impairment in patients with Wilson's disease (WD), we developed a computer-assisted radiomics model to distinguish between WD and WD cognitive impairment.

Methods: Overall, 136 T1-weighted MR images were retrieved from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Chinese Medicine, including 77 from patients with WD and 59 from patients with WD cognitive impairment. The images were divided into training and test groups at a ratio of 70:30.

Objective: The hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) acts as a critical integrating center of endocrine/autonomic responses and regulates visceral functional activities. However, its involvement in electroacupuncture (EA) treatment of chronic glomerulonephritis (CGN) remains unclear.

Methods: Over four experiments, we randomized 111 rats into: control, untreated model (CGN) or EA-treated model (CGN + EA) groups, a model group receiving EA after PVN damage (CGN + EA + Lesion) or untreated model groups injected with adeno-associated viral vectors encoding human M4 muscarinic receptor (CGN + hM4D) or enhanced green fluorescent protein (CGN + EGFP).

Previous studies have shown that autophagic pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is regulated by circular RNAs (circRNAs), which accelerate bone damage by participating in the immune inflammatory response. Therefore, exploring the mechanisms underlying circRNA regulation of autophagy is essential for maintaining homeostasis of the skeletal microenvironment in RA and may improve our understanding of the specific pathways involved in the development of therapeutics. In this review, we discuss autophagic imbalance in RA and the regulatory mechanisms of circRNAs.
