Electronic address:

Ether-based electrolytes are known for their high stability with lithium metal anodes (LMAs), but they often exhibit poor high-voltage stability. Structural optimization of ether-based solvent molecules has been proven to effectively broaden the electrochemical window of these electrolytes, yet the optimization rules within cyclic ethers remain unclear. Herein, we investigate the impact of methyl substitution positions on the molecular properties of 1,3-dioxolane (DOL), a commonly used cyclic ether.

Heterotrophic nitrification, similar to autotrophic nitrification, involves key enzymes and reactive nitrogen intermediates during ammonia oxidation, which may influence antibiotic transformation. However, the interference between antibiotic transformation products from ammonia oxidation and secondary metabolites in heterotrophic nitrifiers makes antibiotic transformation pathways more complicated. In this work, we observe that the heterotrophic nitrifier Alcaligenes ammonioxydans HO-1 can effectively convert sulfonamide antibiotics.

Medical devices (MDs) play a critical role in healthcare delivery while also bringing potential medical risks and unintended harms to patients. Although government regulation is well recognized as a critical and essential function for ensuring the safety of MDs in many countries, the supplementary role that hospitals play is often neglected. This paper constructs a tripartite evolutionary game model involving the government, hospitals, and MDs enterprises to explore their strategic behaviors of MDs regulation in healthcare delivery.

Underground coal excavation has caused a series of geological disasters and environmental problems, especially coal mining subsidence. Backfill-strip mining, which combines the advantages of strip mining and backfill mining, can reduce subsidence and improve the recovery rate of coal. Therefore, predicting the impact of backfill-strip mining on the surface environment and strata structure is essential for the better development of backfill-strip mining technology.

December 2024

National Colorectal Disease CenterNanjing Hospital of Chinese Medicine, Affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, 210022, Jiangsu, People's Republic of China.

Background: Complex perianal fistulas, challenging to treat and prone to recurrence, often require surgical intervention that may cause fecal incontinence and lower quality of life due to large surgical wounds and potential sphincter damage. Human umbilical cord-derived MSCs (hUC-MSCs) and their exosomes (hUCMSCs-Exo) may promote wound healing.

Methods: This study assessed the efficacy, mechanisms, and safety of these exosomes in treating complex perianal fistulas in SD rats.

Article Synopsis
  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) can cause multi-organ complications, particularly in the liver, and Gegen Qinlian Decoction (GQD) shows promise in managing these issues according to modern Chinese medicine.
  • The study aimed to investigate how GQD improves liver injury in T2DM through various experimental methods including UPLC analysis and animal models.
  • Results indicated that GQD enhances liver function, reduces oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation, and alleviates iron overload, suggesting it helps protect against liver injury by inhibiting ferroptosis via Nrf2 modulation.

Electronic address:

Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) exploits the powerful representational capabilities of deep neural networks (DNNs) and has achieved significant success. However, compared to DNNs, spiking neural networks (SNNs), which operate on binary signals, more closely resemble the biological characteristics of efficient learning observed in the brain. In SNNs, spiking neurons exhibit complex dynamic characteristics and learn based on principles of biological plasticity.

Nature-Inspired Approach: A Novel Rat Optimization Algorithm for Global Optimization.

Biomimetics (Basel)

December 2024

School of Electrical and Photoelectronic Engineering, West Anhui University, Lu'an 237012, China.

This work presents a rat optimization algorithm (ROA), which simulates the social behavior of rats and is a new nature-inspired optimization technique. The ROA consists of three operators that simulate rats searching for prey, chasing and fighting prey, and jumping and hunting prey to deal with optimization issues. The Levy flight strategy is introduced into the ROA to keep the algorithm from running into issues with slow convergence and local optimums.

Creating and Deleting a Single Dipolar Skyrmion by Surface Spin Twists.

Nano Lett

January 2025

Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Low-Energy Quantum Materials and Devices, High Magnetic Field Laboratory, HFIPS, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei, 230031, China.

We report deterministic operations on single dipolar skyrmions confined in nanostructured cuboids by using in-plane currents. We achieve highly reversible writing and deleting of skyrmions in a simple cuboid without any artificial defects or pinning sites. The current-induced creation of skyrmions is well-understood through the spin-transfer torque acting on surface spin twists of the spontaneous 3D ferromagnetic state, caused by the magnetic dipole-dipole interaction of the uniaxial FeSn magnet with a low-quality factor.

Nanozymes can improve reactive oxygen species (ROS)-based cancer therapies by targeting cancer cells' antioxidant defense mechanisms, particularly glutathione (GSH) depletion, to overcome ROS-resistant cancer cells. Nanozymes, innovative enzyme-mimetic nanomaterials, can generate ROS, alter the tumor microenvironment (TME), and synergize with photodynamic therapy (PDT), chemodynamic therapy (CDT), radiotherapy, and immunotherapy. This review shows how nanozymes catalyze ROS generation, selectively deplete GSH, and target cancer elimination, offering clear advantages over standard therapies.
