Front Immunol

November 2024

Key Laboratory. of Oral Diseases Research of Anhui Province, College & Hospital of Stomatology, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers utilized single-cell RNA sequencing and various analysis techniques to identify and validate cell populations and genes associated with ICD, finding that fibroblasts exhibited higher ICD activity.
  • * The study concluded that fibroblasts likely serve as a primary source of ICD in periodontitis, and identified specific hub genes that can act as biomarkers for diagnosing the disease.

Causal relationships of infection with and herpesvirus on periodontitis: A Mendelian randomization study.

Heliyon

August 2024

Stomatologic Hospital & College, Anhui Medical University, Key Lab. of Oral Diseases Research of Anhui Province, Hefei, 230032, China.

Background: To explore the causal association between () infection, herpesvirus infection and periodontitis (PD) from a genetic perspective using Mendelian randomization (MR).

Methods: The PD data were derived from genome-wide association study (GWAS) from the Dental Endpoints (GLIDE) consortium, and the FinnGen Biobank provided data on and herpesvirus infections. In addition, we examined GWAS data for subtypes of and herpesvirus infection.

Exploration of potential shared gene signatures between periodontitis and multiple sclerosis.

BMC Oral Health

January 2024

College & Hospital of Stomatology, Key Lab. of Oral Diseases Research of Anhui Province, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, 230032, China.

Background: Although periodontitis has previously been reported to be linked with multiple sclerosis (MS), but the molecular mechanisms and pathological interactions between the two remain unclear. This study aims to explore potential crosstalk genes and pathways between periodontitis and MS.

Methods: Periodontitis and MS data were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database.

Structure-Controllable and Mass-Produced Glycopolymersomes as a Template of the Carbohydrate@Ag Nanobiohybrid with Inherent Antibacteria and Biofilm Eradication.

Biomacromolecules

January 2024

Biomass Molecular Engineering Center and Anhui Provincial Key Laboratory of Microbial Pest Control, Anhui Agricultural University, Hefei, Anhui 230036, China.

Glycopolymer-supported silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have demonstrated a promising alternative to antibiotics for the treatment of multidrug-resistant bacteria-infected diseases. In this contribution, we report a class of biohybrid glycopolymersome-supported AgNPs, which are capable of effectively killing multidrug-resistant bacteria and disrupting related biofilms. First of all, glycopolymersomes with controllable structures were massively fabricated through reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) in an aqueous solution driven by complementary hydrogen bonding interaction between the pyridine and amide groups of -(2-methylpyridine)-acrylamide (MPA) monomers.

The role of non-coding RNAs in diabetes-induced osteoporosis.

November 2023

College & Hospital of Stomatology, Anhui Medical University, Key Lab. of Oral Diseases Research of Anhui Province, Hefei, 230032, China; Department of Periodontology, Anhui Stomatology Hospital Affiliated to Anhui Medical University, Hefei, 230032, China. Electronic address:

Diabetes mellitus (DM) and osteoporosis are two major health care problems worldwide. Emerging evidence suggests that DM poses a risk for osteoporosis and can contribute to the development of diabetes-induced osteoporosis (DOP). Interestingly, some epidemiological studies suggest that DOP may be at least partially distinct from those skeletal abnormalities associated with old age or postmenopausal osteoporosis.

College & Hospital of Stomatology Anhui Medical University, Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases Research of Anhui Province Hefei People's Republic of China.

Cancer is a genetic disease caused by alterations in genome and epigenome and is one of the leading causes for death worldwide. The exploration of disease development and therapeutic strategies at the genetic level have become the key to the treatment of cancer and other genetic diseases. The functional analysis of genes and mutations has been slow and laborious.

PRDX6 alleviates lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation and ferroptosis in periodontitis.

Acta Odontol Scand

October 2022

College & Hospital of Stomatology, Anhui Medical University, Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases Research of Anhui Province, Hefei, China.

Objective: Periodontitis is a progressive and inflammatory oral disease and results in the damage of the supporting tissues of teeth. Peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6) is an antioxidant enzyme identified as a regulator in ferroptosis. This study aimed to investigate whether PRDX6 could protect human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) from lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation and its mechanisms.

The role of non-coding RNAs in drug resistance of oral squamous cell carcinoma and therapeutic potential.

Cancer Commun (Lond)

October 2021

Key Lab. of Oral Diseases Research of Anhui Province, College & Hospital of Stomatology, Hefei, Anhui, 230032, P. R. China.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), the eighth most prevalent cancer in the world, arises from the interaction of multiple factors including tobacco, alcohol consumption, and betel quid. Chemotherapeutic agents such as cisplatin, 5-fluorouracil, and paclitaxel have now become the first-line options for OSCC patients. Nevertheless, most OSCC patients eventually acquire drug resistance, leading to poor prognosis.

Article Synopsis
  • - Emerging research indicates that non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), particularly long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), play critical roles in tumor development, including head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).
  • - LncRNAs, which are RNA transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides, are involved in various biological processes linked to cancer, affecting growth, spread, and overall outlook in HNSCC patients.
  • - The review discusses the mechanisms regulating lncRNAs in cancer and emphasizes their potential as biomarkers for diagnosing and treating HNSCC, while noting that more research is needed in this area.
