Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China, No. 17 Lujiang Road, Hefei, Anhui Province, 230001, People's Republic of China.

Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is one of the most prevalent allergic diseases in children. This study aimed to investigate the association between serum concentrations of vitamin E and AR to determine if the vitamin E level is correlated with the occurrence and severity of AR.

Methods: A total of 113 children were enrolled in this cross-sectional study.

The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of electro-acupuncture (EA) stimulation on remifentanil-induced postoperative hyperalgesia (RIPH) and the possible involvement of spinal microglia suppression. A model of RIPH was established using adult male Sprague-Dawley rats by administration of remifentanil at 0.08 mg/kg intravenously for 60 min.

This study was performed to evaluate the prognostic significance of the pretreatment serum gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) levels in a Chinese cohort of patients with early-stage or locally advanced cervical cancer. The pretreatment serum GGT levels were examined in 290 cervical cancer patients with stage I-III disease and 230 healthy controls selected from a cancer-free population in the same region. Patients were assigned to normal or high-risk GGT groups, as previously described, and the GGT levels were correlated to clinicopathologic parameters and survival data.

Background: The prognostic significance of circulating tumor cells in patients with lung cancer is controversial. Therefore, we aimed to comprehensively and quantitatively assess the prognostic role of CTCs in patients with lung cancer.

Methods: The relevant literature was searched using PubMed, the Cochrane database and the China National Knowledge Internet database (up to June 2016).

Angiogenesis is associated with prostate cancer (PCa) development and progression. Aberrant expression of C-terminal binding protein (CtBP)2 has been observed in PCa, but whether its change in expression plays a significant role in angiogenesis has not been completely characterized. we attempted to integrate and analyze the genome-wide association study (GWAS) of follicle stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) and CtBP2, the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data and CtBP2 binding data in CistromeMap (18) to explore the mechanism of CtBP2 in PCa, and performed pathway enrichment analysis.

The present study was designed to investigate the prognostic significance of the preoperative sensitive-modified Glasgow prognostic score (S-mGPS) and its superiority in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Clinicopathologic characteristics, preoperative albumin and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were retrospectively collected in 442 patients who underwent transthoracic esophagectomy. The S-mGPS was calculated before surgery based on optimal cutoff values of 45.

The present study was to establish a prognostic indicator based on preoperative fibrinogen and C-reactive protein (CRP) (FC score) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Clinicopathologic characteristics, preoperative plasma fibrinogen and serum CRP levels were reviewed in patients who underwent transthoracic esophagectomy. The optimal cut-off value for fibrinogen and CRP was defined as 4.

Renal osteodystrophy (ROD) is highly prevalent in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Because most patients with ROD are asymptomatic in the early stage and bone biopsy remains not a routine procedure in many clinical settings; therefore, several biochemical parameters may help to identify the existence of ROD. C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) is considered as a positive regulator of bone formation.

Tetramethylpyrazine upregulates the aquaporin 8 expression of hepatocellular mitochondria in septic rats.

The Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Remodeling and Function Research, Chinese Ministry of Education and Chinese Ministry of Health, Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, Jinan, China; ICU, Anhui Provincial Hospital affiliated Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China.

Background: The sepsis-induced acute liver injury majorly depends on the dysfunction of mitochondria and the loss of cellular energy. Aquaporin 8 (AQP8) can modulate water transport and osmotic swelling of mitochondria in the inner mitochondrial membrane of the liver. In this study, we explore the effects of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) on protecting the structure of hepatocyte mitochondria and modulating the expression of AQP8.
