Optical Genome Mapping (OGM) technology has garnered growing interest for the identification of chromosomal structural variations (SVs), particularly complex ones that are implicated in genetic diseases in humans. In this study, we performed genetic diagnostics on a neonatal patient who presented with feeding difficulties, hypotonia, and an atrial septal defect. We utilized a combination of trio-whole exome sequencing and OGM for our analysis.

Department of Radiology, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Functional Imaging and State Key Laboratory of Experimental Hematology, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, Tianjin, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Genome-wide association studies of brain imaging traits have mostly focused on European populations, leaving other groups, like the Chinese, underrepresented.
  • This study analyzed brain imaging phenotypes in 7,058 Chinese Han participants and 33,224 white British participants, identifying 38 new associations in Chinese analyses and 486 in cross-ancestry meta-analyses.
  • The research revealed 6,443 significant genetic associations with variations in distribution across the genome, some overlapping with other brain-related traits, enhancing our understanding of genetic factors in diverse populations.

Hypotrichosis is a genetic disorder characterized by a diffuse and progressive loss of scalp and/or body hair. Nonetheless, the causative genes for several affected individuals remain elusive, and the underlying mechanisms have yet to be fully elucidated. Here, we discovered a dominant variant in a disintegrin and a metalloproteinase domain 17 (ADAM17) gene caused hypotrichosis with woolly hair.

Institute of Clinical Pharmacology, Key Laboratory of Anti-Inflammatory and Immune Medicine, Ministry of Education, Anhui Collaborative Innovation Center of Anti-Inflammatory and Immune Medicine, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, Anhui, 230032, China.

Organic molecule-mediated noncanonical DNA self-assembly expands the standard DNA base-pairing alphabets. However, only a very limited number of small molecules have been recognized as mediators because of the tedious and complicated experiments like crystallization and microscopy imaging. Here we present an integrative screening protocol incorporating molecular dynamics (MD) for fast theoretical simulation and native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis for convenient experimental validation.

Objective: To summarize the research progress in the treatment of distal humeral metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction (DHMDJ) fractures in children and to provide reference for clinical practice.

Methods: The characteristics and treatment methods of transverse and comminuted DHMDJ fractures in children were summarized and analyzed by referring to relevant literature at home and abroad.

Results: DHMDJ fractures in children are not uncommon clinically, with high fracture line position, multi-directional instability, difficult closed reduction in treatment, and easy to cause complications such as coronal and sagittal deformity of the elbow.

Electronic address:

Cadmium (Cd) is a widely distributed typical environmental pollutant and one of the most toxic heavy metals. It is well-known that environmental Cd causes testicular damage by inducing classic types of cell death such as cell apoptosis and necrosis. However, as a new type of cell death, the role and mechanism of pyroptosis in Cd-induced testicular injury remain unclear.

Ewing's Sarcoma (ES) is an rare, small round-cell sarcoma that predominantly occurs in children and young adults, with both skeletal and extraskeletal manifestations. However, pancreatic ES, due to its rarity, is infrequently featured in scholarly literature, with only a scant 43 reported instances. Our study describes a case of pancreatic ES in an 8-year-old boy who was found to have an abdominal mass.

The Center of Psychosomatic Medicine, Sichuan Provincial Center for Mental Health, Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, 611731, PR China.

Background: Inhibitory control represents a core executive function that critically facilitates adaptive behavior and survival in an ever-changing environment. Non-invasive transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) has been hypothesized to improve behavioral inhibition performance, however the neurocomputational mechanism of taVNS-induced neuroenhancement remains elusive.

Method: In the current study, we investigated the efficacy of taVNS in a sham-controlled between-subject functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) experiment with an emotional face Go/No-Go paradigm in ninety healthy young adults.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the best management strategies for pediatric vanishing testes syndrome (VTS) through an analysis of clinical and pathological data from 368 children who underwent surgery.
  • The children were divided into two groups: one that had their affected testis excised and another that preserved it, with outcomes compared between the two.
  • The findings highlight a high occurrence of fibrosis in excised tissues and suggest that excision is preferable due to lower infection rates and uncertainties regarding malignant potential in preserved atrophic testes.
