The population of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients along with relevant advanced liver disease is projected to continue growing, because currently no medications are approved for treatment. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is believed a novel and promising therapeutic approach based on the concept of the gut-liver axis in liver disease. There has been an increase in the number of pre-clinical and clinical studies evaluating FMT in NAFLD treatment, however, existing findings diverge on its effects.

Background: IGF2BP3 functions as an RNA-binding protein (RBP) and plays a role in the posttranscriptional control of mRNA localization, stability, and translation. Its dysregulation is frequently associated with tumorigenesis across various cancer types. Nonetheless, our understanding of how the expression of the IGF2BP3 gene is regulated remains limited.

Objective: To analyze the effectiveness comparison of external fixator combined with Kirschner wire fixation and Kirschner wire fixation in the treatment of cubitus varus deformity in children.
Methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted to collect 36 children of postoperative supracondylar humerus fracture complicating cubitus varus deformity between January 2018 and July 2022. Among them, 17 cases were treated with distal humeral wedge osteotomy external fixation combined with Kirschner wire fixation (observation group), and 19 cases were treated with distal humeral wedge osteotomy and Kirschner wire fixation (control group).

Objectives: To date, the majority of research on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) in the developing brain has primarily centered on adolescents and adults, leaving a gap in understanding variations in spontaneous brain activity at rest in preterm infants. This study aimed to uncover and comprehend the distinctions in spontaneous brain activity between preterm and term infants, with the goal of establishing a foundation for assessing the condition of preterm infants.
Methods: In this study, 14 term infants and 15 preterm infants with equivalent gestational age were carefully chosen from the neonatal unit of Anhui Provincial Children's Hospital.

Background: Gastroschisis has increased in recent years, however, complicated gastroschisis is associated with higher mortality, as well as higher health care costs and disease burdens from short- and long-term complications.
Case Introduction: A woman aged 25 years old at 37 + 1 weeks gestation (gravida 2; para 0) was admitted to the hospital because of foetal gastroschisis. Targeted quaternary ultrasound performed at our hospital showed that 34 mm of the abdominal wall was interrupted continuously, an intestinal echo with a range of approximately 88 × 50 mm was seen bulging outwards the local area close to the intestinal wall showed a 34 × 23 m anecho, and the foetus was measuring 2 weeks smaller than expected.

Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are closely related. The function of immunocytes in the pathogenesis of CAD and T2DM has not been extensively studied. The quantitative bioinformatics analysis of the public RNA sequencing database was applied to study the key genes that mediate both CAD and T2DM.

Background: The caesarean section (CS) rate has increased worldwide and there is an increasing public and scientific interest in the potential long-term health consequences for the offspring. CS is related to persistent aberrant microbiota colonization in the offspring, which may negatively interfere with sex hormone homeostasis and thus potentially affect the reproductive health. It remains unknown whether adult sons' semen quality is affected by CS.

Background: Sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SICM) is common complication in septic patients with a high mortality and is characterized by an abnormal inflammation response, which was precisely regulated by endogenous specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs). However, the metabolic changes of cardiac SPMs during SICM and the roles of SPMs subset in the development of SICM remain unknown.
Methods: In this work, the SPMs concentration was assessed using ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) of SICM mice and SICM patients.

(HP) infections affect approximately one-third of children worldwide. In China, the incidence of HP infection in children ranges from approximately 30% to 60%. In addition to damaging the gastrointestinal tract mucosa, HP infection in children can negatively affect their growth and development, hematology, respiratory and hepatobiliary system, skin, nutritional metabolism, and autoimmune system.

WHO firstly published the classification of paediatric tumours, in which genetic tumour syndromes were introduced as a separate chapter, covering the clinicopathological features, molecular genetic alterations, and diagnostic criteria of various tumor susceptibility syndromes common in children. This article briefly introduces and interprets 5 hotspot genetic tumour syndromes (neurofibromatosis type 1, naevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome, von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, familial adenomatous polyposis and xeroderma pigmentosum) based on relevant literature, in order to bring new perspectives and insights to pathologists and clinicians.

Bulimia, which means a person has episodes of eating a very large amount of food (bingeing) during which the person feels a loss of control over their eating, is the most primitive reason for being overweight and obese. The extended literature has indicated that childhood emotional abuse has a close relationship with adverse mood states, bulimia, and obesity. To comprehensively understand the potential links among these factors, we evaluated a multiple mediation model in which anxiety/depression and bulimia were mediators between childhood emotional abuse and body mass index (BMI).

No information exists on the availability of pediatric medicines in China. This study aimed to access the availability of different types of pediatric medicine and determine their ratio in medical institution drug catalogs. Based on drug instructions, an expert meeting method was used to divide pediatric medicines into five categories: child-specific medicine (CSM), co-use medicine for adults and children (CMAC), other pediatric medicines (OCM), off-label medicine use (OMU), and non-child medicine (NM).

To understand the epidemiological characteristics of human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) among acute respiratory infection (ARI) cases in 16 provinces of China from 2009 to 2023. The data of this study were collected from the ARI surveillance data from 16 provinces in China from 2009 to 2023, with a total of 28 278 ARI cases included in the study. The clinical specimens from ARI cases were screened for HRSV nucleic acid from 2009 to 2023, and differences in virus detection rates among cases of different age groups, regions, and months were analyzed.

Background: Voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) is the gold standard for the diagnosis and grading of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). However, VUR grading from voiding cystourethrograms is highly subjective with low reliability. This study aimed to develop a deep learning model to improve reliability for VUR grading on VCUG and compare its performance to that of clinicians.
