Metallic oxide can induce localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) through creating vacancies, which effectively achieve high carrier concentrations and offer advantages such as versatility and tunability. However, vacancies are typically created by altering the stoichiometric ratio of elements through doping, and it is challenging to achieve LSPR enhancement in the visible spectral range. Here, we have assembled CuO-superlattices to induce a high concentration of oxygen vacancies, resulting in LSPR within the visible spectrum.

ALKBH5 acts a tumor-suppressive biomarker and is associated with immunotherapy response in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Phase I Clinical Trials Unit, Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, 210008, China.

As immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) therapy has made great strides in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment, improving patient response to this strategy has become the main focus of research. Accumulating evidence has shown that mA methylation plays a crucial role in the tumorigenesis and progression of HCC, while the precise impact of the mA demethylase ALKBH5 on the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) of HCC remains poorly defined. The clinical significance of ALKBH5 and TIM3 were evaluated in human HCC tissues.

The STAT3 pathway promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition, migration, invasion and metastasis in cancer. STAT3 upregulates the transcription of the key epithelial-mesenchymal transition transcription factor SNAIL in a DNA binding-independent manner. However, the mechanism by which STAT3 is recruited to the SNAIL promoter to upregulate its expression is still elusive.

MRI guided copper deprivator activated immune responses and suppressed angiogenesis for enhanced antitumor immunotherapy.

January 2025

School of Pharmacy, Shandong Technology Innovation Center of Molecular Targeting and Intelligent Diagnosis and Treatment, Binzhou Medical University, Yantai 264003, China.

Copper plays an important role in the regulation of PD-L1, suggesting that reducing copper levels within tumors may enhance anti-cancer immunotherapy. Tumor microenvironment responsive copper nanodeprivator (TMECN) was developed for enhancing immunotherapy of tumor via the cross-link of mercaptopolyglycol bipyridine and dimercaptosuccinic acid modifying FePt nanoalloy using the disulfide bond. Upon entering tumor cells, the disulfide bond in TMECN is cleaved by the overexpressed glutathione, exposing abundance of sulfhydryl groups.

Kidney stone disease is a major risk factor for impaired renal function, leading to renal fibrosis and end-stage renal disease. High global prevalence and recurrence rate pose a significant threat to human health and healthcare resources. Investigating the mechanisms of kidney stone-induced injury is crucial.

Chemotherapy is essential for treating tumors, including head and neck cancer (HNC). However, the toxic side effects of chemotherapeutic drugs limit their widespread use. Therefore, a targeted delivery system that can transport the drug to the pathological site while minimizing damage to healthy tissues is urgently needed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the risk of radiation esophagitis (RE) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients undergoing immunochemotherapy followed by radiotherapy (ICI-RT) and sought to create a predictive nomogram for RE risk.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 102 patients, identifying key factors (like maximum and mean radiation doses to the esophagus) through logistic regression that significantly correlated with the development of RE.
  • The nomogram showed strong predictive ability in both training (AUC: 0.918) and validation (AUC: 0.833) groups, indicating its potential as a useful tool in clinical practice for predicting RE in this patient population.

Cross-device and test-retest reliability of speech acoustic measurements derived from consumer-grade mobile recording devices.

Behav Res Methods

December 2024

Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Medical Physics and Technology, Institute of Health and Medical Technology, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei, China.

In recent years, there has been growing interest in remote speech assessment through automated speech acoustic analysis. While the reliability of widely used features has been validated in professional recording settings, it remains unclear how the heterogeneity of consumer-grade recording devices, commonly used in nonclinical settings, impacts the reliability of these measurements. To address this issue, we systematically investigated the cross-device and test-retest reliability of classical speech acoustic measurements in a sample of healthy Chinese adults using consumer-grade equipment across three popular speech tasks: sustained phonation (SP), diadochokinesis (DDK), and picture description (PicD).
