In Chinese freshwater lakes, eutrophication often coincides with heavy metal/metalloids (HM/Ms) pollution, yet the coevolution of critical nutrients (P, S, Se) and HM/Ms (Cd, Hg, etc.) remains understudied. To address this gap, we conducted a sedimentary chemistry analysis on a 30 cm-deep core, dating back approximately 200 years, retrieved from Chaohu Lake, China.

Mineral element accumulation in plants is influenced by soil conditions and varietal factors. We investigated the dynamic accumulation of 12 elements in straw at the flowering stage and in grains at the mature stage in eight rice varieties with different genetic backgrounds (Japonica, Indica, and admixture) and flowering times (early, middle, and late) grown in soil with various pH levels. In straw, Cd, As, Mn, Zn, Ca, Mg, and Cu accumulation was influenced by both soil pH and varietal factors, whereas P, Mo, and K accumulation was influenced by pH, and Fe and Ni accumulation was affected by varietal factors.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a relatively "cold" tumour with low immunogenicity compared to other tumour types. Especially, the immune checkpoint inhibitors to treat metastatic TNBC only shows the modest immune response rates. Here, we used Chlorella vulgaris as a bioreactor to synthesize an efficient nanobomb (Bio-MnSe) aimed at eliciting systemic anti-tumour immune response.

Dynamic Restructuring of CuS/Cu for Efficient CO Electro-reduction to Formate.

ChemSusChem

March 2024

College of Physics and Energy, Fujian Normal University, Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Quantum Manipulation and New Energy Materials, Fuzhou, 350117, China.

Optimized catalytic properties and reactant adsorption energy played a crucial role in promoting CO electrocatalysis. Herein, CuS/Cu underwent in situ dynamic restructuring to generate S-CuO/Cu hybrid catalyst for effective electrochemical CO reduction to formate that outperformed CuO/Cu and CuS. Thermodynamic and in situ Raman spectra revealed that the optimized adsorption of the HCOO* intermediate on S-CuO/Cu was regulated and the H pathway (surface H) was suppressed by S-doping.

Background: Pregnancy toxemia is a common disease, which occurs in older does that are pregnant with multiple lambs in the third trimester. Most of the sick goats die within a few days, which can seriously impact the economic benefits of goat breeding enterprises. The disease is believed to be caused by malnutrition, stress, and other factors, that lead to the disorder of lipid metabolism, resulting in increased ketone content, ketosis, ketonuria, and neurological symptoms.

Visible-Light-Induced Direct Photoamination of BODIPY Dyes with Aqueous Ammonia.

Org Lett

October 2023

The Key Laboratory of Functional Molecular Solids, Ministry of Education; Anhui Laboratory of Molecule-Based Materials; School of Chemistry and Materials Science, Anhui Normal University, Wuhu, Anhui 241002, China.

By taking advantage of their strong absorption ability, visible-light-induced direct photoamination of BODIPY dyes with aqueous ammonia was developed to give structurally diverse α-amino BODIPYs. The excited state of BODIPYs possessed higher electron affinity than the ground state and thus showed largely enhanced reactivity toward weak nucleophile of ammonia. Those α-amino BODIPYs are valuable synthetic intermediates and have been successfully demonstrated in several post-transformation reactions.

The early symptoms of cork spot disorder in 'Akizuki' pear ( Nakai) are challenging to distinguish from those in healthy fruits, hindering early identification in production. In this study, samples of cork-browned 'Akizuki' pears, asymptomatic fruits and healthy fruits were examined to determine the content of relevant mineral elements. A micro near-infrared spectrometer collected spectral information, and various pretreatment methods were applied to the near-infrared spectral data.

Sperm proteins play vital roles in improving sperm freezing resilience in domestic animals. However, it remains poorly defined which proteins regulate the freezing resilience of spermatozoa in rams (). Here, we compared the proteome of ram sperm with a high cryopreservation recovery ratio (HCR) with that of ram sperm with a low cryopreservation recovery ratio (LCR) using a tandem mass tag-based quantitative proteomics approach.

Inorganic compounds with different crystalline and amorphous states may show distinct properties in catalytic applications. In this work, we control the crystallization level by fine thermal treatment and synthesize a semicrystalline IrO material with the formation of abundant boundaries. Theoretical calculation reveals that the interfacial iridium with a high degree of unsaturation is highly active for the hydrogen evolution reaction compared to individual counterparts based on the optimal binding energy with hydrogen (H*).

Duyun compound green tea (DCGT) is a healthy beverage with lipid-lowering effect commonly consumed by local people, but its mechanism is not very clear. We evaluated the effect of DCGT treatment on bile acids (BA) metabolism of mice with high-fat diet (HFD) - induced hyperlipidaemia by biochemical indexes and metabolomics and preliminarily determined the potential biomarkers and metabolic pathways of hyperlipidaemia mice treated with DCGT as well as investigated its lipid-lowering mechanism. The results showed that DCGT treatment could reduce HFD - induced gain in weight and improve dyslipidaemia.

In this study, a simple electrochemical aptasensor for saxitoxin (STX) detection was developed based on a short anti-STX aptamer with a methylene blue (MB) incorporated at the 3'-end. The aptamer was immobilized on the surface of gold electrode and served as the recognition element. The aptasensor was successfully used as a highly selective and sensitive biosensor for STX detection because of the selection of aptamer along with the excellent electrocatalytical properties of MB.
