Aim: To characterize baby hamster kidney fibroblast (BHK 21/C13) cells and test the effects of antibodies against podoplanin and disodium cromolyn on BHK 21/C13 cell line-derived tumors grown on chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM).
Material And Methods: BHK 21/C13 cell-derived fibrosarcomas developed in hamsters were implanted on CAM and treated with anti-podoplanin antibodies and disodium cromolyn. BHK 21/C13 cell immunophenotype was assessed.

Background/aim: Probably due to their low occurrence, chromophobe and papillary renal cell carcinomas are less well characterized and, currently, there are no reliable prognostic markers for this group of patients. Moreover, the optimal therapy for patients with non-clear renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is unknown yet. Although elevated levels of Galectin-3 (Gal-3) were associated with poor prognosis in conventional RCC, the impact of this protein on carcinogenesis of chromophobe and papillary entities has not been previously described.

Background/aim: To analyze the interaction between the human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) and the chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM), in order to assess the still obscure process of vasculogenesis.
Materials And Methods: We implanted hMSC onto CAM and we analyzed the morphology and the immunohistochemical profile of CAM.
Results: hMSC adhered to CAM, few of them entered the chorionic epithelium and the mesoderm and developed a CD44/Ki67 status.

The true onset of atherosclerosis remains one of the biggest challenges for cardiologists. Is atheroma plaque development considered the earliest step of vascular aging? If so, when it starts? Before or after birth? If it starts before birth or early during childhood, it seems that Thomas Sydenham was right: "A man is as old as his arteries." Except disorganization of elastic fibers, less is known about the morphology of vascular aging and also about the molecular events influencing the age of arteries, arterial stiffness, and their role in the appearance of future complications.

Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the effect of autologous fat graft on nerve regeneration by means of immunohistochemistry.
Materials And Methods: The rat sciatic nerve was used; complete transection followed by primary neurorrhaphy was performed on both hind legs, on the left side a processed fat graft was applied, surrounding the nerve. Nerve biopsies were collected and immunohistochemical procedures were performed for glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and for neurofilament-associated protein(NFAP).

Mast cells, accumulate in the stroma surrounding certain tumors and take part to the inflammatory reaction occurring at the periphery of the tumor. Mast cell-secreted angiogenic cytokines facilitate tumor vascularization not only by a direct effect but also by stimulating other inflammatory cells of the tumor microenvironment to release other angiogenic mediators. An increased number of mast cells have been demonstrated in angiogenesis associated with solid tumors, including breast cancer.

Unlabelled: Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) has been known to promote endothelial cell (EC) proliferation and protect Syndecan-1 (SDC1) from shedding, thereby maintaining this antithrombotic signal.
