In an effort to develop potent antibacterial and anticancer agents, a series of C5'-N-cyclopropylcarboxamido-C6-amino-C2-alkynylated purine nucleoside analogues 11a-g were synthesized through a Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction. The nine-step synthesis is easy to perform, and employs commercially available reagents. 2-Iodo-5'-N-cyclopropylcarboxamidoadenosine (9) was used as the starting intermediate for the synthesis of title derivatives 11a-g.

A majority of previously reported methods suffer from insufficient yields as well as more complicated experimental procedures, a smaller amount of isolated yields involving time-consuming and tiresome work-up with the use of metal catalyst and restricted scope of substrates. To overcome these issues, an environmentally benign, ionic liquid endorsed multi-component protocol to N-substituted azepines has been exploited by means of coupling aromatic amines, dimethyl/diethyl acetylene dicarboxylate, 2,5-dimethoxytetrahydrofuran using 1,3-Di-n-butylimidazolium tribromide [BBim]Br. The catalyst can be recycled and reused for subsequent reactions.

The unique hydrographic setting of the Bay of Bengal (BoB) makes it an ideal tropical marine system to study the influence of regional and global forcings on productivity and [CO] through the late quaternary. Enormous fresh water flux into the BoB and consequent salinity stratification significantly weaken the convective mixing and wind driven processes which are commonly responsible for transport of nutrients to the euphotic zone driving primary productivity. Here we present a high resolution organic carbon-CaCO MAR and δC records for the last 300 ky from the BoB.

Article Synopsis
  • Human growth hormone plays a significant role in the progression of breast cancer, affecting cellular proliferation and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition process.
  • The study found that the production of human growth hormone leads to increased activation of nuclear factor-κB, which promotes cell growth and reduces apoptosis in breast cancer cells.
  • Understanding the relationship between human growth hormone and nuclear factor-κB could help identify potential treatment options for breast cancer by targeting this signaling pathway.

Modifications of flexible nonyl chain and nucleobase head group of (+)-erythro-9-(2's-hydroxy-3's-nonyl)adenine [(+)-EHNA] as adenosine deaminase inhibitors.

Bioorg Med Chem

October 2017

Advinus Therapeutics Ltd., Drug Discovery Facility, Quantum Towers, Plot-9, Phase-I, Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjewadi, Pune 411 057, India. Electronic address:

A series of terminal nonyl chain and nucleobase modified analogues of (+)-EHNA (III) were synthesized and evaluated for their ability to inhibit adenosine deaminase (ADA). The constrained carbon analogues of (+)-EHNA, 7a-7h, 10a-c, 12, 13, 14 and 17a-c appeared very potent with Ki values in the low nanomolar range. Thio-analogues of (+)-EHNA 24a-e wherein 5'C of nonyl chain replaced by sulfur atom found to be less potent compared to (+)-EHNA.

The present study investigated the effects of Naringin on seizure severity, progress of kindling, memory impairment, oxidative stress, neurochemicals, and neural damage in Pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced kindling. Alternate intra-peritoneal injections of PTZ induced kindling at 22 injections of PTZ. In comparison with the PTZ group, pretreatment with Naringin 30 min prior to PTZ administration and on a PTZ-free day was found to lead to a decreased seizure score, a mitigated progress of kindling, decreased transfer latency, and increased total number of arm entries, % alternation behavior in Y maze, and % conditioned avoidance response in a pole climbing apparatus.
