Venom pathology is not restricted to the direct toxic effects of venom. Immunoinflammatory alteration as the etiology of snake venom-induced acute kidney injury (SAKI) is a less trodden path toward the development of alternative therapeutic approach. In the present study, we have associated the crest of renal damage stage to the immunological alteration, as reflected in thymic and peripheral T cell polarization in the murine model of SAKI.

Ruthenium-based metallotherapeutics is an interesting alternative for platinum complexes acting as anticancer agents after the entry of KP1019, NAMI-A, and TLD1339 in clinical trials. Herein, we have synthesized three new arene ruthenium(II)-tetrazole complexes viz. [Ru(η-p-cymene)(2-pytz)Cl] (1), [Ru(η-p-cymene)(3-pytz)Cl] (2), [Ru(η-p-cymene)(4-pytz)Cl] (3) [2-pytzH = 2-pyridyl tetrazole; 3-pytzH = 3-pyridyl tetrazole; 4-pytzH = 4-pyridyl tetrazole] which have been characterized by different analytical techniques.

The study was carried out to obtain information on the present status and trend of finfish diversity of the Old Brahmaputra river, Bangladesh. Samples were collected directly from a professional fishing boat caught by different nets, traps and hooks from January 2019 to December 2019. Together with 4 exotic species, a total of 49 species under 6 families were recorded.

Background: Transient tachypnea of the newborn(TTNB) is the most common respiratory morbidity in late preterm and term babies and is pathophysiologically related to delayed lung fluid clearance after birth. Mimicking low physiological fluid intake in the initial period of life may accelerate the recovery from TTNB. In a randomized controlled trial, we compared the roles of restricted versus standard fluid management in babies with TTNB requiring respiratory support.

Ultrasensitive detection of heavy metal ions in available water around us is a great challenge for scientists since long time. We developed an optical technique that combines Rayleigh scattering of UV light (365 nm) and post-sample fluorescence detection from colloidal silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) having a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band at 420 nm. The efficacy of the technique is tested by the detection of several model toxic ions, including mercury, lead, and methylmercury in aqueous media.

Electronic address:

Redox-active quinones have been reported to show good potential for biological activities, while efforts are directed to explore the usefulness of these materials further in cancer management. Our previous study demonstrated that theaflavin and theaflavin-gallates (tea-extracted polyphenols) selectively induce apoptosis of tumour cells in vitro, but its concentration for showing half-maximal therapeutic response remains a matter of concern. In this report, we demonstrated that if theaflavin is conjugated with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to form a nanoconjugate AuNP@TfQ, its apoptotic ability increases significantly in comparison to the bare theaflavin (Tf).

Electronic address:

Galactose Oxidase (GOase) and catechol oxidase (COase) are the metalloenzymes of copper having monomeric and dimeric sites of coordination, respectively. This paper summarizes the results of our studies on the structural, spectral and catalytic properties of new mononuclear copper (II) complexes [CuL(OAc)] (1), and [CuL] (2), (HL = 2,4‑dichloro‑6‑{[(2'‑dimethyl‑aminoethyl)methylamino]methyl}‑phenol) which can mimic the functionalities of the metalloenzymes GOase and COase. The structure of the compounds has been elucidated by X-ray crystallography and the mimicked Cu(II) catalysts were further characterized by EPR.

Graphlets are small connected induced subgraphs of a larger graph G. Graphlets are now commonly used to quantify local and global topology of networks in the field. Methods exist to exhaustively enumerate all graphlets (and their orbits) in large networks as efficiently as possible using orbit counting equations.

Hematological alterations and splenic T lymphocyte polarization at the crest of snake venom induced acute kidney injury in adult male mice.

Snake venom induced acute kidney injury (SAKI) is of great clinical relevance in tropical countries. Involvement of T cell, a key mediator of AKI and its remission, is least explored in SAKI. In the present study the in vivo hematological alterations and associated splenic T cell polarization is probed in order to investigate the immune response at the crest of Russell's viper venom (RVV) induced AKI in experimental murine model.

Snake bite is an occupational hazard in India and important preventable cause of acute kidney injury (AKI). This study was done to estimate the magnitude of snakebite-induced AKI (SAKI) who required renal replacement therapy, prognostic predictors, and final outcome, and to measure the oxidative and carbonyl stress (CS) level in SAKI patient who underwent hemodialysis (HD). All SAKI patients dialyzed between April 2010 and July 2011 in NRS Medical College were included.

NaYF is a superior host matrix to study the luminescence properties of lanthanide (Ln ) ions. Ln ions in hexagonal-phase NaYF (β-phase) nanocrystals (NCs) exhibit strong luminescence via an upconversion process compared to cubic NaYF (α-phase) NCs. However, in Ce /Ln -doped NaYF NCs (Ln=Tm, Tb, Sm, Dy) the α-phase NaYF NCs shows strong luminescence compared to their counterpart β-phase NCs despite the latter being much larger in size.

Background & Objectives: Number of metastatic lymph nodes has a strong prognostic value in the course of breast cancer treatment, morbidity and mortality. This study was undertaken to determine the association between axillary lymph node metastasis and several variables such as age, tumour size, grade, lymphovascular invasion, oestrogen and progesterone receptor expression and HER2/neu status in patients with breast cancer.

Methods: In this study 426 (with complete information on study variables) patients with breast cancer on treatment during March 2010 to December 2013, were analyzed.

Erythrocyte morphology is gaining importance as a powerful pathological index in identifying the severity of any blood related disease. However, the existing technique of quantitative microscopy is highly time consuming and prone to personalized bias. On the other hand, relatively unexplored, complementary technique based on flow cytometry has not been standardized till date, particularly due to the lack of a proper morphological scoring scale.

Department of Botany, Ananda Mohan College, 102/1, Raja Rammohan Sarani, Kolkata 700009, India.

Herbivory with crypsis is not well documented in ferns. The present record of cryptic coloration of coccid Saissetia filicum Boisduval (Homoptera: Coccidae) to the sori of a fern species Asplenium nidus L. (Aspleniaceae) is unique.
