Osteoporosis (OP) is an epidemic bone remodeling disorder of growing relevance with the aging population. Considering that isorhamnetin (ISO), a flavonoid derived from plant, has been newly reckoned as an active ingredient in treating OP, our paper was conducted to investigate the regulatory role and mechanism of ISO in OP. CCK-8 method detected cell activity.

Objective: The CABANA study shows that atrial fibrillation (AF) paitents younger than 65 years benefit more from the AF radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) procedure. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of inherent patent foramen ovale (PFO) with a Left-to-Right Shunt on the RFCA procedure in young AF patients.

Methods: Based on the presence or absence of inherent PFO, the AF patients were divided into the PFO groups and the non-PFO group.

Introduction: Different opinions exist about the role of subchondral bone in osteoarthritis (OA), probably because subchondral bone has different effects on cartilage degeneration in OA induced by different pathologies. Animal studies to illustrate the role of subchondral bone in cartilage degeneration were mostly based on post-traumatic OA (PT-OA). Postmenopausal women experience a much higher occurrence of OA than similar-aged men.

Background And Aims: Endoscopy is necessary for assessment of esophageal varices (EVs) in cirrhotic patients, but its use is limited because of the poor compliance of patients and shortage of public health resources at primary hospitals or rural areas, especially in less well developed countries. A multicenter cross-sectional study aimed to establish a novel non-invasive score for prediction of EVs in cirrhotic patients who had never undergone endoscopy.

Methods: Patients with liver cirrhosis regardless of acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB) who underwent the first-time upper gastrointestinal endoscopy at 11 hospitals in Liaoning Province, China were considered.

Low levels of serum vitamin D have been shown to accelerate progression of osteoarthritis. However, the role of vitamin D in articular cartilage degradation and osteoarthritis development is still unclear. This study investigated the effects of vitamin D on articular cartilage degradation by testing matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs) activities in articular cartilage using the rat vitamin D deficiency model at the animal level and rat articular chondrocytes at the cell level.

The liquid biopsy is being integrated into cancer diagnostics and surveillance. However, critical questions still remain, such as how to precisely evaluate cancer mutation burden and interpret the corresponding clinical implications. Herein, we evaluated the role of peripheral blood cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in characterizing the dynamic mutation alterations of 48 cancer driver genes from cervical cancer patients.

Background: Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), which plays a crucial role in lipoprotein metabolism, has been also regarded as an important marker for atherosclerosis. Available evidence indicated that 2-h postchallenge plasma glucose (2-hPG) could be another biomarker for atherosclerosis. However, currently the association between circulating PCSK9 and 2-hPG remains unclear.

Platelets play a multifaceted role in cancer progression and metastasis. Mean platelet volume (MPV) and platelet distribution width (PDW) are commonly used platelet parameters from routine blood test. The aim of the present study was to investigate the correlation between platelet indices and prognosis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Background: At present, few studies have explored the significance of POU5F1 (also known as octamer-bingding factor, Oct-4 or Oct-3) expression in breast cancer tissues.

Methods: A total of 121 patients were retrospectively selected between May 2010 and March 2013 to investigate the relationship between POU5F1/Oct-4 expression in breast cancer tissues and non-sentinel lymph node (non-SLN) metastases and to validate the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) nomogram. All patients had early-stage breast cancer, which was histologically confirmed by the Department of Surgical Oncology, The First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University.
