Department of Microbiology and Parasitology, Anhui Provincial Laboratory of Pathogen Biology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, 230032, Anhui, China.

The inflammatory response mediated by alveolar macrophages plays a crucial role in the development of acute lung injury. Numerous studies have reported that lncRNAs are highly expressed in acute lung injury in mouse models and cell lines, and acute lung injury (ALI) can be effectively alleviated by targeting these lncRNAs. The aim of this study was to explore the mechanism by LncRNA Gm26917 regulates the inflammatory response in alveolar macrophages during acute lung injury mouse model.

Cryo-EM reveals cholesterol binding in the lysosomal GPCR-like protein LYCHOS.

Nat Struct Mol Biol

January 2025

Division of Nephrology and Kidney Research Institute, State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Cholesterol plays a pivotal role in modulating the activity of mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTOR1), thereby regulating cell growth and metabolic homeostasis. LYCHOS, a lysosome-localized G-protein-coupled receptor-like protein, emerges as a cholesterol sensor and is capable of transducing the cholesterol signal to affect the mTORC1 function. However, the precise mechanism by which LYCHOS recognizes cholesterol remains unknown.

Previous studies have confirmed that methylation regulates gene transcription in the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis during puberty initiation, but little is known about the regulation of DNA methylation on gene expression in the pineal gland. To screen pineal gland candidate genes related to the onset of goat puberty and regulated by genome methylation, we collected pineal glands from prepubertal and pubertal female goats, then, determined the DNA methylation profile by whole genome bisulfite sequencing and the transcriptome by RNA sequencing on Illumina HiSeqTM2500. We analyzed differentially expressed genes between the Pre group and Pub group using the DESeq2 software (version 1.

NKAPL facilitates transcription pause-release and bridges elongation to initiation during meiosis exit.

Nat Commun

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine and Offspring Health, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, China.

Transcription elongation, especially RNA polymerase II (Pol II) pause-release, is less studied than transcription initiation in regulating gene expression during meiosis. It is also unclear how transcription elongation interplays with transcription initiation. Here, we show that depletion of NKAPL, a testis-specific protein distantly related to RNA splicing factors, causes male infertility in mice by blocking the meiotic exit and downregulating haploid genes.

The space charge effect induced by high-quality heterojunctions is essential for efficient electrocatalytic processes. Herein, we delicately manipulate intermolecular charge transfer by modifying substituents (-g = -CH3, -H, -NO2) with various electron donating/withdrawing capabilities in CoPc-g/CoS organic-inorganic heterostructures. CoPc-CH3, as a typical electron donor, transfers more electrons to CoS due to the presence of -CH3, forming the strongest space electric field and thus regulating the dual active sites at the interface.

Institute of Organic Contaminant Control and Soil Remediation, College of Resources and Environmental Sciences, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing 210095, China. Electronic address:

Hundreds of new flame retardants (NFRs) are widely used, causing environmental pollution and threating human health. In this study, based on the interaction of NFRs and human serum albumin (HSA), we assessed the differences in potential human accumulation of 8 NFRs including 1,2-Dibromo-4-(1,2-dibromoethyl)cyclohexane (TBECH), tetrabromobisphenol A bis(dibromopropyl ether) (TBBPA-DBPE), 2,4,6-tribromophenol (TBP), pentabromophenol (PBP), tri-n-butyl phosphate (TnBP), triphenyl phosphate (TPP), Tri(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), and Tri(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TDCP). All NFRs could bind to HSA and cause slight damage to its structure, suggesting their potential human accumulation ability.

The impact of supply chain digitalization (SCD) on carbon dioxide emissions is an emerging area of research, particularly in China, which is the world's largest carbon emitter. This study uses micro-level data on listed companies from 2010 to 2021 to systematically verify the impact and mechanism of SCD on corporate carbon emissions (CCE) through the difference-in-differences model. We determined that SCD can significantly reduce CCE and its implementation path involves three aspects: promoting technological innovation, reducing financing constraints, and increasing market attention.

Although cathepsin S is transported from the spleen to the liver, where it cleaves collagen XVIII to produce endostatin and plays a critical role in the onset of early liver fibrosis, the relationship between liver fibrosis and spleen function remains underexplored. Given the roles of phosphorylation in disease, understanding its regulatory mechanism in early liver fibrosis is crucial. Despite advances in mass spectrometry enhancing phosphoproteomics, its application is limited by small clinical samples and subtle protein changes.

Uniform seed germination is crucial for consistent seedling emergence and efficient seedling production. In this study, we identified a seed-expressed protein in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), lateral organ boundaries domain 40 (SlLBD40), that regulates germination speed. CRISPR/Cas9-generated SlLBD40 knockout mutants exhibited faster germination due to enhanced seed imbibition, independent of the seed coat.

Individuals often actively suppress intrusive memories to alleviate the distress they cause and maintain mental well-being. However, those with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often exhibit difficulties particularly in inhibiting or suppressing negative memories compared to individuals without PTSD. These memories can involve a physical threat either to the individual themselves or to others.

The global quest for clean energy and sustainable processes makes advanced membrane extremely attractive for energy-intensive industrial gas separations. Here, we disclosed a series of ultra-high-performance gas separation membranes (PIM-3D-TB) from novel network polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIM) that combine the advantages of solution processible PIM and small pore size distribution (PSD) of porous organic polymers (POP), which was synthesized by in situ copolymerization of triptycene-2,6-diamine as linear part and triptycene-2,6,13(14)-triamine (TTA) as crosslinker. The resulting PIM-3D-TB membranes demonstrated outstanding separation properties that outperformed the latest trade-off lines for H/CH and O/N.
