In recent years, next-generation high-throughput sequencing technology has been widely used in clinical practice for the identification and diagnosis of Mendelian diseases as an auxiliary detection method. Nevertheless, due to the limitations in read length and poor coverage of complex genomic regions, the etiology of many genetic diseases is unclear. Long-read sequencing (LRS) addresses these limitations of next-generation sequencing.

Aims And Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore the association between transition shocks and professional identity and the mediating roles of self-efficacy and resilience among Chinese novice nurses.
Background: Novice nurses experience transition shock when they start their careers, which might lead to decreased professional identity and ultimately turnover. By contrast, self-efficacy and resilience are excellent psychological resources that may be associated with higher professional identity.

Background: Chinese topography appears a three-rung ladder-like distribution of decreasing elevation from northwest to southeast, which is divided by two sloping edges. Previous studies have reported that prevalence of thyroid diseases differed by altitude, and geographical factors were associated with thyroid disorders. To explore the association between three-rung ladder-like regions and thyroid disorders according to unique Chinese topographic features, we conducted an epidemiological cross-sectional study from 2015-2017 that covered all 31 mainland Chinese provinces.

Unlabelled: Hepatocyte nuclear factor 1α (HNF1α) plays essential roles in controlling development and metabolism; its mutations are clearly linked to the occurrence of maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY3) in humans. Lysine 117 (K117) to glutamic acid (E117) mutation in the HNF1α gene has been clinically associated with MODY3, but no functional data on this variant are available. Here, we addressed the role of lysine 117 in HNF1α function using a knock-in animal model and site-directed mutagenesis.

Introduction: Next-generation sequencing of microbial cell free DNA (mcfDNA-seq) has emerged as a promising diagnostic method for blood stream infection (BSI) and offers the potential to detect pathogens before blood culture. However, its application is limited by a lack of clinical validation.
Methods: We conducted sequential mcfDNA-seq on blood samples from ICU participants at high risk of BSI due to pneumonia, or intravascular catheterization; and explored whether mcfDNA-seq could diagnose and detect pathogens in advance of blood culture positivity.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) on the short-term outcomes and long-term survival of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) who underwent curative resection.
Methods: This study retrospectively included 136 patients (T2DM group) with resectable CRC and T2DM from Jan 2013 to Dec 2017. Propensity score-matched control group consisting of 136 patients (non-T2DM group) were selected from 1143 CRC patients without T2DM.

Hepassocin (HPS) is a hepatokine that has multiple proposed physiological functions. Some of the biological processes in which it is involved are closely related to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, but the role of HPS in the regulation of ER stress remains unclear. Here, we demonstrated that transcription is induced by the protein kinase RNA-like ER kinase (PERK)/activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4) cascade upon ER stress in hepatocytes.

Background: To compare the efficacy and safety of follitropin delta in its individualized fixed-dose regimen with follitropin alfa in a conventional adjustable dosing regimen in Chinese women. METHODS: This was a subgroup analysis of the randomized, multi-center, assessor-blind, non-inferiority trial (GRAPE) including 759 Chinese women (aged 20-40 years) recruited in 16 reproductive medicine clinics in China. Women were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to be treated with either follitropin delta dose based on anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and body weight or conventional dosing with follitropin alfa following a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist protocol.

Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) possess the remarkable ability to regenerate the whole blood system in response to ablated stress demands. Delineating the mechanisms that maintain HSPCs during regenerative stresses is increasingly important. Here, it is shown that Hemgn is significantly induced by hematopoietic stresses including irradiation and bone marrow transplantation (BMT).

Acute liver injury shares a common feature of hepatocytes death, immune system disorders, and cellular stress. Hepassocin (HPS) is a hepatokine that has ability to promote hepatocytes proliferation and to protect rats from D-galactose (D-Gal)- or carbon tetrachloride (CCl)-induced liver injury by stimulating hepatocytes proliferation and preventing the high mortality rate, hepatocyte death, and hepatic inflammation. In this paper, we generated a pharmaceutical-grade recombinant human HPS using mammalian cells expression system and evaluated the effects of HPS administration on the pathogenesis of acute liver injury in monkey and mice.

Despite the implementation of the universal salt iodization (USI) program for correction of iodine deficiency in China for ∼20 years, the actual iodine nutrition status of Chinese residents and the prevalence of iodine deficiency and iodine excess are issues that need to be addressed. This nationally representative cross-sectional study was conducted across all 31 provinces of mainland China to gather extensive data on iodine nutrition status and the influential factors. This study included 78,470 participants, aged 18 years or older, who were interviewed and asked to answer a questionnaire.

At present, China is in the stage of the COVID-19 epidemic where regular prevention and control measures are required to contain the spread of disease. Reports of new sporadic cases are still widespread across China and medical personnel remain at high risk of exposure to infection. This is especially the case for medical staff working within emergency departments.

Lately, long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) is recognized as a key regulator of gastric cancer (GC) which has aroused great interest in the fields of medicine, toxicology, and functional food. Studies related to LncRNA expression microarray data indicate that BX357664 is down-regulated in GC specimens. However, the expression pattern and molecular mechanism of BX357664 in GC have not been studied so far.

Because the prevalence of metabolic and autoimmune thyroid diseases has increased synchronously, the correlation between them was worth exploring. The study objective was to investigate the relationship between metabolic disorders and thyroid auto-antibodies in euthyroid subjects.
