Introduction: Preterm birth (PTB) is among the leading causes of perinatal and childhood morbidity and mortality. Therefore, accurate identification of pregnant women at high risk of PTB is key to enable obstetric healthcare professionals to apply interventions that improve perinatal and childhood outcomes. Serial transvaginal cervical length measurement is used to screen asymptomatic pregnant women with a history of PTB and identify those at high risk for a recurrent PTB.

Purpose: For successful prevention and intervention, it is important to unravel the complex constellation of factors that affect neurocognitive functioning after pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission. This study aims (1) to elucidate the potential relevance of patient and PICU-related characteristics for long-term adverse neurocognitive outcome after PICU admission for bronchiolitis, and (2) to perform a preliminary exploration of the potential of machine learning as compared to linear regression to improve neurocognitive outcome prediction in a relatively small sample of children after PICU admission.

Methods: This cross-sectional observational study investigated 65 children aged 6-12 years with previous PICU admission for bronchiolitis (age ≤ 1 year).

Introduction: In early-onset fetal growth restriction the fetus fails to thrive in utero due to unmet fetal metabolic demands. This condition is linked to perinatal mortality and severe neonatal morbidity. Maternal administration of corticosteroids in high-risk pregnancies for preterm birth at a gestational age between 24 and 34 weeks has been shown to reduce perinatal mortality and morbidity.

Article Synopsis
  • Preterm birth (PTB) rates in the Netherlands are declining, primarily due to preventive strategies, yet certain groups still see rising rates of PTB, indicating the need for targeted scrutiny.
  • A study analyzed data from over 1.4 million singleton pregnancies and found a significant decrease in PTB rates, particularly in iatrogenic cases and among certain demographic groups like older mothers and those with higher socioeconomic status.
  • However, there was an alarming increase in spontaneous extreme and very PTB cases, suggesting that while progress has been made, challenges remain, especially for vulnerable populations and multiple pregnancies.

Study Question: What is the influence of dietary interventions, namely the low fermentable oligo-, di-, mono-saccharides, and polyols (Low FODMAP) diet and endometriosis diet, on endometriosis-related pain and quality of life (QoL) compared to a control group?

Summary Answer: After adhering to a dietary intervention for 6 months, women with endometriosis reported less pain and an improved QoL compared to baseline whereas, compared to the control group, they reported less bloating and a better QoL in 3 of 11 domains.

What Is Known Already: Standard endometriosis treatment can be insufficient or may be accompanied by unacceptable side effects. This has resulted in an increasing interest in self-management strategies, including the appliance of the Low FODMAP diet and the endometriosis diet (an experience-based avoidance diet, developed by women with endometriosis).
