Background: Ischemia/reperfusion injury contributes to periprocedural myocardial injury (PMI) in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). PMI can be estimated by the elevation of troponin (Tn) and creatine kinase-MB (CKMB) plasma levels, and it is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events and mortality. Vitamin C might have a beneficial effect on PMI by improving endothelial function, improving myocardial perfusion, and by reducing oxidative stress generated during/after reperfusion.

Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) are essential players in the skin-associated immune system, nevertheless little is known about their proteomes and proteomic diversity. In this study, we describe about 6,600 proteins constitutively expressed by ILC2s and ILC3s from healthy human skin and blood using state-of-the-art proteomics. Although the vast majority of proteins was expressed by both ILC subsets and in both compartments, the skin ILC2s and ILC3s were more distinct than their counterparts in blood.

Several recent studies indicate that mutations in the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) 3'polypurine tract (3'PPT) motif can reduce sensitivity to the integrase inhibitor dolutegravir (DTG). Using an systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) approach, we discovered that multiple different mutations in this viral RNA element can confer DTG resistance, suggesting that the inactivation of this critical reverse transcription element causes resistance. An analysis of the viral DNA products formed upon infection by these 3'PPT mutants revealed that they replicate without integration into the host cell genome, concomitant with an increased production of 1-LTR circles.

Background: We previously reported that impaired type I IFN activity, due to inborn errors of TLR3- and TLR7-dependent type I interferon (IFN) immunity or to autoantibodies against type I IFN, account for 15-20% of cases of life-threatening COVID-19 in unvaccinated patients. Therefore, the determinants of life-threatening COVID-19 remain to be identified in ~ 80% of cases.

Methods: We report here a genome-wide rare variant burden association analysis in 3269 unvaccinated patients with life-threatening COVID-19, and 1373 unvaccinated SARS-CoV-2-infected individuals without pneumonia.
