Nasal decolonization of Staphylococcus aureus with the antibiotic mupirocin is a common clinical practice before complex surgical procedures, to prevent hospital acquired infections. However, widespread use of mupirocin has led to the development of resistant S. aureus strains and there is a limited scope for developing new antibiotics for S.

Advances in fetal echocardiography including newer techniques like 4D spatio-temporal image correlation technology has improved our understanding of fetal cardiac and extracardiac abnormalities. High resolution ultrasound combined with color Doppler and 3D rendering have contributed to an improved understanding of the fetal vascular system and its anomalies. This pictorial essay including ultrasound images and videos alongside their respective clay models, provides precise information of duct anatomy in fetuses with pulmonary atresia and aortic arch abnormalities.

Improvement in immunosuppression has led to a remarkable improvement in short-term and long-term outcomes post-liver transplant (LT). However, with improvements in long-term survival, complications related to immunosuppressive drugs, either directly or indirectly, have also increased. The adverse events could be drug-specific, class-specific, or generic.

Background: To compare the safety and efficacy of once-daily tacrolimus (ODT) versus twice-daily tacrolimus (BDT) in adult live donor liver transplantation (LDLT).
Methods: In this open-labelled randomized trial, 174 adult patients undergoing LDLT were randomized into ODT or BDT, combined with basiliximab induction and mycophenolate mofetil (steroid-free regimen). Tacrolimus was started at a total dose of 1 mg and the trough level was aimed at 3-7 ng/ml.

Hybrid bioprinting uses sequential printing of melt-extruded biodegradable thermoplastic polymer and cell-encapsulated bioink in a predesigned manner using high- and low-temperature print heads for the fabrication of robust three-dimensional (3D) biological constructs. However, the high-temperature print head and melt-extruded polymer cause irreversible thermal damage to the bioprinted cells, and it affects viability and functionality of 3D bioprinted biological constructs. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop innovative approaches to protect the bioprinted cells, coming into contact or at close proximities to the melt-extruded thermoplastic polymer and the high-temperature print head during hybrid bioprinting.

Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) are a diverse group of diseases characterized by proximal muscle weakness and inflammation in skeletal muscle. Phenotypically, the subtypes include dermatomyositis, polymyositis, inclusion body myositis, and amyopathic dermatomyositis. The most common IIM in children is juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM).

Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is an important and preventable cause of morbidity and mortality among children and young adults in low-income and middle-income countries, as well as among certain at-risk populations living in high-income countries. The 2012 World Heart Federation echocardiographic criteria provided a standardized approach for the identification of RHD and facilitated an improvement in early case detection. The 2012 criteria were used to define disease burden in numerous epidemiological studies, but researchers and clinicians have since highlighted limitations that have prompted a revision.

Topical wound infections create the ideal conditions for microbial colonization and growth in terms of moisture, temperature, and nutrients. When they are not protected, numerous types of bacteria from the internal microbiota and the external environment may colonize them, creating a polymicrobial population. Treatment of these wounds often necessitates the use of antibiotics that may have systemic harmful effects.

Introduction: Aggressive fibromatosis (AF) is a fibroblastic locally aggressive neoplasm arising from the musculoaponeurotic stroma and has no metastatic potential. The high tendency of recurrence despite complete surgical resections makes the management of the condition onerous. It can result in significant morbidity with major functional loss due to the destruction of adjacent vital structures and organs.

Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) present with a multitude of symptoms that can range from headaches to shoulder pain. Patients frequently present with pain in the ear, dizziness, and vertigo. It is noted that some patients who report TMDs also have a history of sleep disturbances, which is noted in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) as a reduction in the oropharyngeal airway volume.

Background: Noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) maintains mean airway pressures well, and its usability for preoxygenation is well described. Anesthesia machine-delivered NIPPV-based preoxygenation has recently been evaluated against the traditional manual bag-mask ventilation (BMV). The efficiency of such a technique over the traditional one is yet to be established well.

A young male presented with intermittent high-grade fever, asymmetric polyarthritis and erythematous, tender nodules over left shin for 2 months duration. He had a history of alcohol dependence with multiple episodes of acute pancreatitis. With polyarthritis progressing relentlessly, unresponsive to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and steroids, a provisional diagnosis of sarcoidosis was considered.

Disconnected branch pulmonary arteries are sparsely reported cases in prenatal diagnosis literature. We report a case of tetralogy of Fallot with disconnected branch pulmonary arteries, the left pulmonary artery (LPA) arising from an indirect ductus arteriosus (DA) from the base of the innominate artery in a right aortic arch, diagnosed by fetal echocardiography with 3D/4D spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC) imaging. Prenatal diagnosis led to early neonatal intervention to maintain blood flow to the LPA by stenting of the DA.

Bioengineered 3D models that can mimic patient-specific pathologiesare valuable tools for developing and validating anticancer therapeutics. In this study, microfibrillar matrices with unique structural and functional properties were fabricated as 3D spherical and disc-shaped scaffolds with highly interconnected pores and the potential of the newly developed scaffolds for developing prostate cancer model has been investigated. The newly developed scaffolds showed improved cell retention upon seeding with cancer cells compared to conventional electrospun scaffolds.

Gastrointestinal mucormycosis (GIM) is an uncommonly encountered fungal infection following solid-organ transplantation. GIM is known to be associated with immunocompromised states, remains difficult to diagnose and often results in fatal outcomes. It is plausibly the delay in initiation of appropriate treatment strategies that leads to failure of response and patient demise.
