Sex differences in atrial fibrillation in India: Insights from the Kerala-AF registry.

Background: Much data informing sex differences in atrial fibrillation (AF) comes from Western cohorts. In this analysis, we describe sex differences in Kerala, India, using the Kerala-AF registry-the largest AF registry from the Indian subcontinent.

Methods: Patients aged ≥18 years were recruited from 53 hospitals across Kerala.

Ocular surface changes in patients who have undergone head and neck radiation therapy.

Purpose: Dry eye syndrome (DES) is a familiar sequelae of radiation therapy (RT) for head and neck cancers (HNC). Ocular surface changes such as DES occur due to injury to the conjunctival epithelium, goblet cells, corneal surface, lacrimal glands, and meibomian glands. This study aimed at the evaluation and early detection of changes in ocular surface parameters in patients receiving RT for extraocular HNC.

Transmissibility of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 among household contacts of coronavirus disease 2019-positive patients: A community-based study in India.

Background: This study identified the risk factors for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection among household contacts of index patients and determined the incubation period (IP), serial interval, and estimates of secondary infection rate in Kerala, India.

Methods: We conducted a cohort study in three districts of Kerala among the inhabitants of households of reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction-positive coronavirus disease 2019 patients between January and July 2021. About 147 index patients and 362 household contacts were followed up for 28 days to determine reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction positivity and the presence of total antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 on days 1, 7, 14, and 28.

Background: Hemophilia A is an X chromosome-linked bleeding disorder caused by the deficiency of coagulation factor VIII (FVIII). The majority of the Indian population with hemophilia A use plasma-derived clotting factors and, in some instances, fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitate. Safer and more efficient treatment options are needed for this group of patients.

Percutaneous closure of large pulmonary artery to left atrial fistula.

Pulmonary artery to the left atrial fistula is a rare anomaly. Two young males presented with effort intolerance and cyanosis and had large pulmonary artery to left atrial fistula from right and left pulmonary artery, respectively.
