Development of disposable, rapid, and convenient biosensor with high sensitivity and reliability is the most desired method of viral disease prevention. To achieve this goal, in this work, a practical impedimetric biosensor has been implemented into a disposable electrode on a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) for the detection of two mosquito-borne viruses. The biosensor fabrication has step-wisely carried out on the disposable electrode surface at room temperature: starting from conductive film formation, physical binding of the gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)-polyaniline (PAni) into the conductive film, and biofunctionalization.

S-nitrosylation of proteins occurs as a consequence of the derivatization of cysteine thiols with nitric oxide (NO) and is often associated with diseases and protein malfunction. Aberrant S-nitrosylation, in addition to other genetic and epigenetic factors, has gained rapid importance as a prime cause of various metabolic, respiratory, and cardiac disorders, with a major emphasis on cancer and neurodegeneration. The S-nitrosoproteome, a term used to collectively refer to the diverse and dynamic repertoire of S-nitrosylated proteins, is relatively less explored in the field of redox biochemistry, in contrast to other covalently modified versions of the same set of proteins.

Tumor formation and progression have been much of a study over the last two centuries. Background: The thioredoxin system (Trx), comprising of Trx, Thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) and NADPH aids in donating hydrogen group to support Ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) catalysis during de-novo DNA biosynthesis. However, it has been observed that inhibiting TrxR does not affect the viability of cancer cells that are susceptible to pharmacological glutathione (GSH) depletion. This prompted us to study the potential antioxidant redundancies that might prolong RNR activity.

Herein, aggregation behaviors of melem or melamine in the presence of three symmetric carboxylic acids (1,3,5-tris(4-carboxyphenyl)benzene (TPCA), 1,3,5-benzene-tri-carboxylic acid (BTA) and 1,3,5-cyclohexane-tri-carboxylic acid (CHTA)) have been performed to check the influence of acid on the formation of aggregated structures which have been investigated by optical microscopy, FESEM, FTIR, XRD and viscoelastic properties have been explored with rheological studies. Interestingly, melem, that has limited solubility in aqueous medium, forms aggregation that leads to the formation of hydrogels with TPCA. More significantly, hydrogel is formed here by matching the size selectivity.

Bat influenza viruses are genetically distant from classical influenza A viruses (IAVs) and show distinct functional differences in their surface antigens. Nevertheless, any comparative analyses between bat and classical IAV RNA polymerases or their specific subunits are yet to be performed. In this work, we have identified signature residues present in the bat influenza virus polymerase which are responsible for its altered fitness in comparison to the classical IAVs.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition or EMT is an extremely dynamic process involved in conversion of epithelial cells into mesenchymal cells, stimulated by an ensemble of signaling pathways, leading to change in cellular morphology, suppression of epithelial characters and acquisition of properties such as enhanced cell motility and invasiveness, reduced cell death by apoptosis, resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs etc. Significantly, EMT has been found to play a crucial role during embryonic development, tissue fibrosis and would healing, as well as during cancer metastasis. Over the years, work from various laboratories have identified a rather large number of transcription factors (TFs) including the master regulators of EMT, with the ability to regulate the EMT process directly.

Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) catalyze the rate-limiting step in DNA synthesis during the S-phase of the cell cycle. Its constant activity in order to maintain dNTP homeostasis is a fascinating area of research and an attractive candidate for cancer research and antiviral drugs. Redox modification such as S-glutathionylation of the R1 subunit of mammalian RNR protein has been presumed to regulate the activity of RNR during catalytic cycles.

We have demonstrated a unique approach to alter the aqueous pool size of an AOT/n-heptane/water reverse micellar system. A positively charged dye Rhodamine B (RhB) and negatively charged Rose Bengal (RB) were incorporated in the reverse micellar pool to investigate the effect of electrostatic interactions and stacking effects among the dye molecules on the AOT/n-heptane/water interface. Dynamic light scattering revealed increase in reverse micellar pool size in presence of positively charged dye aggregates at the oil-water interface.

S-nitrosylation is a very fundamental post-translational modification of protein and non-protein thiols due the involvement of it in a variety of cellular processes including activation/inhibition of several ion channels such as ryanodine receptor in the cardiovascular system; blood vessel dilation; cGMP signaling and neurotransmission. S-nitrosothiol homeostasis in the cell is tightly regulated and perturbations in homeostasis result in an altered redox state leading to a plethora of disease conditions. However, the exact role of S-nitrosylated proteins and nitrosative stress metabolites in inflammation and in inflammation modulation is not well-reviewed.

A small heat shock protein, HSP27, encoded by HSPB1 gene strongly favors survival, proliferation and metastasis of cancer cells and its expression is dependent on post-translational modifications like phosphorylation. This study performed an extensive in silico screening of 20 deleterious non-synonymous SNPs in the coding region of HSPB1 gene, among which four were identified to be cancer associated. The SNP variant I181S introduced a new phosphorylation site in position 181, which might elevate the protein's activation potential.
