Over time, with the increase in population and the subsequent increase in energy consumption and also due to the non-renewability of fossil fuels, the study of alternative fuels has increased. One of these fuels is biodiesel, which is a suitable alternative to fossil fuels such as diesel and received much attention from researchers today. For this reason, measuring the physical properties of biodiesel is of great importance.

Healing diabetic ulcers with chronic inflammation is a major challenge for researchers and professionals, necessitating new strategies. To rapidly treat diabetic wounds in rat models, we have fabricated a composite scaffold composed of alginate (Alg) and silk fibroin (SF) as a wound dressing that is laden with molecules of lithium chloride (LC). The physicochemical, bioactivity, and biocompatibility properties of Alg-SF-LC scaffolds were investigated in contrast to those of Alg, SF, and Alg-SF ones.

A four-electrode system and high-voltage amplitude stimulation (with a voltage of more than 1 V) are always used for nonlinear spectroscopy of biological solutions like yeast suspension. Multiple studies indicate that yeast membrane activities are the primary source of the harmonics detected from yeast suspensions. However, other investigations have demonstrated that at least part of the harmonics are mainly due to the nonlinear impedance of the electrode-electrolyte interface.

Objectives: This study aimed to estimate post-operative rod angles in both concave and convex sides of scoliosis curvature in patients who had undergone posterior surgery, using neural networks and support vector machine (SVM) algorithms.
Methods: Radiographs of 72 scoliotic individuals were obtained to predict post-operative rod angles at all fusion levels (all spinal joints fused by rods). Pre-operative radiographical indices and pre-operatively resolved net joint moments of the apical vertebrae were employed as inputs for neural networks and SVM with biomechanical modeling using inverse dynamics analysis.

Alginate hydrogels are commonly used in wound care due to their ability to maintain a moist environment, absorb fluids, and aid wound healing. However, their stability and mechanical properties can sometimes limit their effectiveness. This study explores a new approach by creating a dual network system of oxidized alginate and gelatin hydrogel crosslinked with polydopamine in a single step, with the goal of improving the mechanical properties of these hydrogels.

The urgent need to shift from non-renewable to renewable energy sources has caused widespread interest in photovoltaic technologies that allow us to harness readily available and sustainable solar energy. In the past decade, polymer solar cells (PSCs) and perovskite solar cells (Per-SCs) have gained attention owing to their low price and easy fabrication process. Charge transport layers (CTLs), transparent conductive electrodes (TCEs), and metallic top electrodes are important constituents of PSCs and Per-SCs, which affect the efficiency and stability of these cells.

Organic light-absorbing materials with two-dimensional semiconductor layers as contact electrodes are promising for efficient and flexible low-cost solar cells. Considering anthracene as an absorber and a MoSSe Janus monolayer, we use non-adiabatic molecular dynamics to show that electron transfer from anthracene to MoSSe is faster on the Se side than the S side. The transfer from anthracene to MoS and MoSe monolayers takes intermediate times.

In addressing the intricate challenges of enterocutaneous fistula (ECF) treatment, such as internal bleeding, effluent leakage, inflammation, and infection, our research is dedicated to introducing a regenerative adhesive hydrogel that can seal and expedite the healing process. A double syringe setup was utilized, with dopagelatin and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in one syringe and Laponite and sodium periodate in another. The hydrogel begins to cross-link immediately after passing through a mixing tip and exhibits tissue adhesive properties.

Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) stands out among conventional hydrogen production processes by featuring excellent advantages. However, the uncompetitive production cost due to the low energy efficiency has hindered its development, necessitating the introduction of cost-effective electrocatalysts. In this study, we introduced samarium doping as a high-potential approach to improve the electrocatalytic properties of nickel phosphide (NiP) for efficient HER.

Low-Salinity Water Flooding (LSWF) is a technique aimed at modifying the interactions between rock and fluids particularly altering wettability and reducing interfacial tension (IFT). However, there remains limited understanding of how heterogeneous wettability and the presence of Initial Water Saturation (S) can impact the effectiveness of LSWF. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of LSWF mechanisms in the context of heterogeneous wettability, while also considering S.

An innovative pH-responsive nanocomposite, comprising agarose (AGA) modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG) hydrogel and coated with ferric oxide (FeO), has been formulated to facilitate the precise administration of 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) to breast cancer cells. By utilizing a double emulsion technique, the size of the nanocomposites was significantly reduced through the application of almond oil; the inclusion of span 80 further improved their uniformity. The physiochemical properties of the nanocomposite were thoroughly examined by Fourier Transformed Infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM), Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and zeta potential tests.

Aqueous two-phase systems (ATPSs) are liquid-liquid equilibria between two aqueous phases that usually contain over 70% water content each, which results in a nontoxic organic solvent-free environment for biological compounds and biomolecules. ATPSs have attracted significant interest in applications for formulating carriers (microparticles, nanoparticles, hydrogels, and polymersomes) which can be prepared using the spontaneous phase separation of ATPSs as a driving force, and loaded with a wide range of bioactive materials, including small molecule drugs, proteins, and cells, for delivery applications. This review provides a detailed analysis of various ATPSs, including strategies employed for particle formation, polymerization of droplets in ATPSs, phase-guided block copolymer assemblies, and stimulus-responsive carriers.

The interaction of lipopolysaccharide with a recombinant protein is a serious bottleneck, particularly in the purification step of bioprocessing. Recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (rHBsAg), the active ingredient of the hepatitis B vaccine, is probably contaminated by extrinsic LPS like other biopharmaceuticals. This research intends to eliminate LPS from its mixture with rHBsAg efficiently.

Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), often stemming from reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation due to various factors such as ototoxic drugs, acoustic trauma, and aging, remains a significant health concern. Oxidative stress-induced damage to the sensory cells of the inner ear, particularly the non-regenerating hair cells, is a critical pathologic mechanism leading to SNHL. Despite the proven efficacy of antioxidants in mitigating oxidative stress, their clinical application for otoprotection is hindered by the limitations of conventional drug delivery methods.
