Background: Vestibular migraine (VM) has a wide range of clinical presentations that can have a significant negative impact on quality of life. Currently, there is no objective test available to confirm the diagnosis or measure the severity of VM. The only available tools for assessing disease severity are patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), such as the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI).

The Safety and Outcomes of Simultaneous Open Rhinoplasty, Alar Reduction, and Upper Lip-Lift through One Surgery.

Background: The safety and outcomes of performing a simultaneous Alar reduction, Lip lift, and Open rhinoplasty Surgery (ALOS) through independent incisions have not been reported in any study, therefore, we aimed to evaluate the safety and outcomes of this combination procedure.

Methods: This retrospective review study was conducted on all cases of simultaneous ALOS, lip-lift, and alar reduction performed from 2018-2022, at Facial Plastic Surgery Clinic, New York, USA. Alar reduction involved complete through-and-through resection of alar wedge, and the type of lip lift technique was bullhorn design with excision of skin and Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System.

Ethical issues experienced by otolaryngologists: a conventional content analysis.

To deliver effective medical services and establish trust and psychological security in patients, care providers must prioritize ethical principles. Developing a comprehensive clinical education program for learners, along with specific ethical guidelines, and implementing managerial and executive interventions necessitates a thorough understanding of the ethical challenges within this field. This qualitative study aimed to elucidate the ethical issues faced by otolaryngologists.

The Diagnostic Value of Ultrasound-Guided Cervical Core Needle Biopsy in Diagnosis of Lymphoma in Suspected Patients.

Core needle biopsy (CNB) guided by imaging modalities seems to be an acceptable modality for diagnosis of lymphoma due to its safety, good applicability, availability as well as diagnostic accuracy, however; Studies have not reached a consensus on its diagnostic accuracy and factors affecting its performance. The present study aimed to assess the value of ultrasound-guided cervical CNB in the diagnosis of lymphoma in suspected patients. This cross-sectional study was performed on 46 consecutive patients (20 to 82 years) with cervical mass or lymphadenopathy suspected of lymphoma and were candidates for diagnostic evaluation.

Correlation between the Opacification Degree of Paranasal Sinuses on CT, Clinical Symptoms and Anatomical Variations of the Nose and Paranasal Sinuses in Patients with Chronic Rhinosinusitis.

This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between the opacification degree of the paranasal sinuses on computed tomography (CT) with clinical symptoms, and anatomical variations of the nose and paranasal sinuses in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). This descriptive prospective study evaluated 100 patients (60 males and 40 females), who were diagnosed with CRS by ENT specialists according to the clinical findings, and were scheduled for a CT scan. The patients were requested to express the severity of their symptoms using a visual analog scale.

Music Appreciation of Cochlear Implant Users versus Normal Hearing Individuals.

Introduction: Cochlear implants (CI) provide speech perception for patients with sensorineural hearing impairment; nonetheless, listening to music is a daunting challenge for them. The present study aimed to compare Iranian CI users and normal hearing (NH) controls in terms of musical habits and appreciation and investigate the possible effect of background variables.

Molecular Characterization of Fungal Colonization on the Provox™ Tracheoesophageal Voice Prosthesis in Post Laryngectomy Patients.

Background: Tracheoesophageal voice prostheses (TVPs) have been the gold standard in rehabilitation, after laryngectomy, producing faster and premier voicing towards esophageal speech. Fungal colonization shortens the device's lifetime and leads to prosthesis dysfunction, leakage, and subsequent respiratory infection. Therefore, in the current study, we aimed to investigate the fungal colonization patterns and to propose prophylactic measures that shall increase the longevity of voice prosthesis.

Association of Pro-inflammatory Cytokine Gene Polymorphism with Meniere's Disease in an Iranian Sample.

Meniere's disease (MD) is known as a rare chronic disorder of the inner ear with elevated serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines like tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, Interleukin (IL)-1, and IL-6. This study aims to evaluate genes polymorphism in some pro-inflammatory cytokines in a group of Iranian MD patients compared to the healthy controls. In this case-control study, 25 MD patients and 139 healthy controls were enrolled.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is a rare and systemic autoimmune disease, causing necrotizing vasculitis of small arteries and veins. The majority of diagnosed patients with GPA have circulating anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) directed against proteinase 3 (PR3). Here, we have reviewed the last findings and uncertainties regarding the treatment of GPA.

Study of steroid effects on graft and inner ear outcomes in tympanoplasty: Randomized controlled trial.

More studies are needed to investigate the side effects of steroids in tympanoplasty, owing to the paucity of such studies in the literature. This randomized, controlled clinical trial included 59 patients with chronic otitis media who underwent tympanoplasty and were randomized after surgery to a systemic steroid or no steroid treatment. The aim of this study was to estimate the risk of posterior semicircular canal injuries using temporal bone computed tomography (CT) scan findings. Temporal bone CT scans of 30 patients selected between 2013 and 2015 were studied.
