Article Synopsis
  • * Out of 294 identified studies, 11 were included, which highlighted a significant correlation between elevated PTS and ACL injuries, showing an increase in PTS by 2.1° to 4.3° in affected patients compared to healthy individuals.
  • * The findings suggest that a high PTS may be linked to an increased risk of knee pathologies in children, necessitating careful consideration when assessing young athletes with ACL injuries.

Article Synopsis
  • Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for left pancreatic resections has been increasingly utilized, but its advantages over traditional open surgery for distal pancreatectomy in treating pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors are still debated.
  • A retrospective study involving 274 patients across 21 French centers analyzed short and long-term outcomes of MIS versus open surgery, focusing on factors like tumor size and patient characteristics.
  • Results showed that MIS reduced major complications and delayed gastric emptying while maintaining comparable survival rates, suggesting it is a safe option for patients with resectable left pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors.

Background: In two-stage hepatectomy for bilobar liver metastases from colorectal cancer, future liver remnant (FLR) growth can be achieved using several techniques, such as right portal vein ligation (RPVL) or right portal vein embolization (RPVE). A few heterogeneous studies have compared these two techniques with contradictory results concerning FLR growth. The objective of this study was to compare FLR hypertrophy of the left hemi-liver after RPVL and RPVE.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on clinically relevant post-pancreatectomy hemorrhage (CR-PPH) specifically after distal pancreatectomy (DP), as most existing data is based on pancreatoduodenectomy.
  • A total of 1188 patients were analyzed, revealing that 5.5% developed CR-PPH, which led to higher mortality, morbidity, and hospital stays compared to patients without CR-PPH.
  • Multivariable analysis indicated that longer surgery times and pre-existing postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) were significant risk factors for developing CR-PPH.

Purpose: Resection of hepatic lesions can be difficult and requires careful analysis of pre-operative imaging. The aim of this study is to highlight the use of multiplanar CT reconstruction in liver surgery, which helps to anticipate intra-operative technical difficulties.

Methods: We retrospectively selected the imaging of several patients managed for liver lesions in specific locations: liver dome (IVa, VIII), the left lobe (intra-parenchymal, left edge), and the antero-inferior edge of segment VI.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of self-administered low-dose methoxyflurane on managing trauma pain in patients outside the emergency department during the COVID-19 pandemic at Bichat University Medical Center in Paris.
  • It involved two groups: a control group receiving standard pain management and an intervention group using methoxyflurane alongside standard treatments.
  • Results showed both groups reported lower pain levels over time, with the intervention group experiencing a greater reduction between specific time points, indicating methoxyflurane may enhance pain relief in similar patients.

Background: Rapid consolidation of the bone block is paramount for the success of the Latarjet procedure. Noncannulated screws have shown satisfactory long-term bone block fusion, while cannulated screws are challenged with inferior mechanical properties and fusion rates.

Purpose: To report outcomes of the Latarjet procedure using cannulated screws, notably bone block fusion and complication rates at 3 months, as well as clinical scores and return to sports at minimum 2 years postoperatively.

Objective: Defining robust and standardized outcome references for distal pancreatectomy (DP) by using Benchmark analysis.

Background: Outcomes after DP are recorded in medium or small-sized studies without standardized analysis. Therefore, the best results remain uncertain.

Background: Enhanced recovery programs (ERPs) are associated with a lower morbidity rate and a shorter length of stay. The present study's objective was to determine whether an ERP is feasible and effective for patients undergoing early cholecystectomy for grade I or II acute calculous cholecystitis.

Study Design: A 2-step multicenter study was performed.

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects various intestinal segments and can involve the perianal region. Although anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) agents have revolutionized the management of Crohn's disease and improved the prognosis for patients with perianal Crohn's disease (pCD), their long-term effectiveness is limited: over 60% of patients relapse after one year of maintenance therapy. In recent years, significant advances have been made in the treatment of complex perianal fistulas after anti-TNF failure.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to assess the performance of residents in orthopaedics before and after a 24-hour shift on a shoulder arthroscopy simulator. The primary study endpoint was an overall performance score (OPS) generated by the simulator.

Methods: A prospective, comparative study of 120 simulator trials by 10 resident junior surgeons was performed in our university hospital's simulation center between May and November 2018.

Article Synopsis
  • Management of colorectal stricture in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is complex due to potential neoplastic issues that aren't ruled out even with negative biopsies.
  • Surgery is the primary treatment for strictures but carries significant risks, while recent advances in biologics and therapeutic endoscopy have not been well studied for this specific issue.
  • A literature review has been conducted to improve decision-making regarding the understanding and treatment of colonic strictures in IBD, given the lack of solid evidence in current therapeutic strategies.

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) has a specific morbidity profile in which gastric leak (GL) is the main complication. With a view to defining a standardized protocol for GL management, the present retrospective study sought to describe the clinical patterns of post-LSG GL and treatment of the latter in our university medical center. From July 2004 to December 2010, 25 patients were included.
