March 2024

Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences, University of Balamand, Kalhat, Tripoli P.O. Box 100, Lebanon.

The study of neuroarchitecture is concerned with the significant effects of architecture on human behavior, emotions and thought processes. This review explores the intricate relationship between the brain and perceived environments, focusing on the roles of the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and parahippocampal place area (PPA) in processing architectural stimuli. It highlights the importance of mirror neurons in generating empathetic responses to our surroundings and discusses how architectural elements like lighting, color, and space layout significantly impact emotional and cognitive experiences.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the health outcomes of COVID-19 patients with a history of cancer compared to those without cancer in the US.
  • Among 1,943 COVID-19 patients analyzed, 18.7% had a history of cancer, with a significant portion being African American.
  • Findings show that cancer patients experienced longer hospital stays and higher mortality rates, with risk factors for death including male sex, older age, and specific health markers.
  • Early identification of these risk factors can aid in improving treatment strategies for better patient outcomes.

In this study, a poor/imperfect interphase is assumed to express the effective interphase thickness, operative filler concentration, percolation onset and volume share of network in graphene-polymer systems. Additionally, a conventional model is advanced by the mentioned terms for conductivity of samples by the extent of conduction transference between graphene and polymer medium. The model predictions are linked to the experimented data.

Ionic liquids (ILs) are more widely used within the industry than ever before, and accurate models of their physicochemical characteristics are becoming increasingly important during the process optimization. It is especially challenging to simulate the viscosity of ILs since there is no widely agreed explanation of how viscosity is determined in liquids. In this research, genetic programming (GP) and group method of data handling (GMDH) models were used as white-box machine learning approaches to predict the viscosity of pure ILs.

Bond Analysis of Titanium Rods Embedded in Masonry.

Materials (Basel)

March 2024

Research Department, Perryman Company, Houston, PA 15342, USA.

Among the techniques utilized for strengthening masonry structures with advanced materials, the adoption of near-surface mounted (NSM) titanium rods stands out as a promising method for increasing the flexural and shear strength of masonry structures. This method is also known as Bed Joint Reinforcement. Ensuring an effective performance of this technique hinges on establishing a strong bond between the NSM reinforcement and the substrate masonry material.

This paper presents a comprehensive exploration of a hybrid energy system that integrates wind turbines with photovoltaics (PVs) to address the intermittent nature of electricity production from these sources. The necessity for such technology arises from the sporadic nature of electricity generated by PV cells and wind turbines. The envisioned outcome is an emissions-free, more efficient alternative to traditional energy sources.

Introduction: Motivation plays a crucial role in determining whether or not a person adheres to an exercise program. The present study aimed to determine the motivational differences between people exercising in fitness alone, in groups/aerobics and with a personal trainer by gender and relationship status.

Methods: The Exercise Motivations Inventory-2 (EMI-2) questionnaire was completed by 830 users of 20 largest fitness centers in Slovenia.

A search is reported for near-threshold structures in the J/ψJ/ψ invariant mass spectrum produced in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV from data collected by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 135  fb^{-1}. Three structures are found, and a model with quantum interference among these structures provides a good description of the data. A new structure is observed with a local significance above 5 standard deviations at a mass of 6638_{-38}^{+43}(stat)_{-31}^{+16}(syst)  MeV.

In 2020, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) challenged the world with a global outbreak that led to millions of deaths worldwide. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the symptomatic manifestation of this virus, which can range from flu-like symptoms to utter clinical complications and even death. Since there was no clear medicine that could tackle this infection or lower its complications with minimal adverse effects on the patients' health, the world health organization (WHO) developed awareness programs to lower the infection rate and limit the fast spread of this virus.

In the current study, endophytic was used for the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) for the first time. The characterizations were performed using X ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), Dynamic light scattering (DLS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The obtained results demonstrated the successful formation of crystalline, spherical Ag-NPs with particle diameters ranging from 16 to 31 nm.

Training neural networks by using conventional supervised backpropagation algorithms is a challenging task. This is due to significant limitations, such as the risk for local minimum stagnation in the loss landscape of neural networks. That may prevent the network from finding the global minimum of its loss function and therefore slow its convergence speed.

The current work deals with the synthesis of a new glass series with a chemical formula of 5AlO-25PbO-10SiO-(60-x) BO-xBaO; x was represented as 5, 10, 15, and 20 mol%. The FT-IR spectroscopy was used to present the structural modification by rising the BaO concentration within the synthesized glasses. Furthermore, the impacts of BaO substitution for BO on the fabricated borosilicate glasses were investigated using the Makishima-Mackenzie model.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT), an approach to cancer treatment, relies fundamentally on two key elements: a light source and a photosensitizing agent. A primary challenge in PDT is the efficient delivery of photosensitizers to the target tissue, hindered by the body's reticuloendothelial system (RES). Silica nanoparticles (SiNPs), known for their unique properties, emerge as ideal carriers in this context.
