The management of advanced heart failure (HF) has long posed significant challenges due to its complex and chronic nature. Heart transplantation, while effective, is not always feasible due to the limited availability of donor organs. In this context, long term mechanical circulatory support and mainly left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) have emerged as a vital intervention to fill this gap.

WHO global research priorities for antimicrobial resistance in human health.

The WHO research agenda for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in human health has identified 40 research priorities to be addressed by the year 2030. These priorities focus on bacterial and fungal pathogens of crucial importance in addressing AMR, including drug-resistant pathogens causing tuberculosis. These research priorities encompass the entire people-centred journey, covering prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of antimicrobial-resistant infections, in addition to addressing the overarching knowledge gaps in AMR epidemiology, burden and drivers, policies and regulations, and awareness and education.

Free intraperitoneal air in infected pancreatic necrosis with intraperitoneal rupture: A rare presentation of a complex diseases.

Key Clinical Message: Among the multitude of causes for acute abdomen patients presenting with free intraperitoneal air, one almost never finds infected pancreatic necrosis as one of the culprits. In patients with risk factors for acute pancreatitis presenting with generalized peritonitis with free intraperitoneal air, consideration should be given to this often deadly entity.

Abstract: Acute pancreatitis is a morbid acute abdominal pathology that has been increasing in incidence in recent years.

Intracranial Hemorrhage in a Patient With Guillain-Barré Syndrome: A Potential Complication, a Coincidental Finding or a Treatment-Related Complication.

This case report demonstrates the difficulty of diagnosing and managing the pharyngeal-cervical-brachial (PCB) variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), as well as the rare complication of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). A male patient in his mid-60s, presented with bilateral upper limb weakness, bilateral ptosis, and bulbar symptoms. The clinical presentation combined with paraclinical findings supported the diagnosis of PCB.

Inborn Errors of Immunity and Efforts to Diagnose Affected Children in the Absence of Training and Specialty Practice in Clinical Immunology in Ethiopia: a Brief Report.

Four in five children with inborn errors of immunity globally remain undiagnosed. These figures are disproportionally high in low-income countries like Ethiopia. An expert consensus–based checklist for quality appraisal of educational resources on adult basic life support: a Delphi study.

Objective: Given the lack of a unified tool for appraising the quality of educational resources for lay-rescuer delivery of adult basic life support (BLS), this study aimed to develop an appropriate evaluation checklist based on a consensus of international experts.

Methods: In a two-round Delphi study, participating experts completed questionnaires to rate each item of a predeveloped 72-item checklist indicating agreement that an item should be utilized to evaluate the conformance of an adult BLS educational resource with resuscitation guidelines. Consensus on item inclusion was defined as a rating of ≥7 points from ≥75% of experts.

This report describes the presentation of a three-year-old Ethiopian boy with recurrent sinopulmonary infections and genetic analysis showing him having autosomal recessive major histocompatibility complex type I deficiency-the first such report in a child of black African descent-and follows it with a summary of existing literature on the epidemiology, presentation, and diagnosis as well as principles of management of this disorder.

Effectiveness of Virtual Reality Vs Guided Imagery on mood changes in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy treatment: A crossover trial.

Purpose: To test whether Virtual Reality (VR) can benefit cancer patients from their interaction with an immersive environment, on their mood and their biophysical parameters, compared to those who will experience a Guided Imagery (GI) intervention.

Methods: This was a randomized crossover trial with 50 cancer patients on active chemotherapy treatment, who were randomized to one of two treatment sequences VR-GI or GI-VR. Patients were assessed for Mood Changes, using POMS questionnaire, for three symptoms (Nausea, Pain and Feeling Sick), using three questions from FACT-G questionnaire, and Bio-physical parameters (Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Oxygen Saturation).

Antimicrobial resistance is a global health threat and there is an urgent need to manage antibiotic use to slow its development. However, antimicrobial stewardship interventions in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) have been limited in terms of their resourcing, feasibility and effectiveness in the face of greater challenges in child mortality. We sought to gather together examples of antibiotic use problems faced by clinicians in LMIC, many of which are unique to these settings, and real-world antimicrobial stewardship solutions identified, with the goal of learning broader lessons that might be applicable across LMIC.
