As standard therapy for prostate cancer, radical prostatectomy causes cavernous nerve (CN) injury and increases fibrosis and hypoxia-induced penile structural alterations. This study aimed to determine the potential beneficial effects of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and l-arginine alone or in combination on the penile erection in a rat model of erectile dysfunction caused by bilateral cavernous nerve transection (CNT). Male rats ( = 35) were randomized into five groups: Sham-operated; CNT (4-weeks); CNT plus ADSCs (1 × 10 cells by intracavernosal injection); CNT plus l-arginine (4 weeks, 10 mg/kg/day, oral); and ADSCs combined with l-arginine in CNT.

Introduction: Nonverbal communication (NC) skills develop dramatically during the first year of life. Especially in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), inadequacies in these skills in the early period negatively affect language development later. Therefore, early recognition of ASD symptoms is the first step in the diagnosis.

The need to improve the safety/quality of food and the health of the hosts has resulted in increasing worldwide interest in acidophilic lactic acid bacteria (LAB) for the food, livestock as well as health industries. In addition to the use of acidophilic LAB with probiotic potential for food fermentation and preservation, their application in the natural disposal of acidic wastes polluting the environment is also being investigated. Considering this new benefit that has been assigned to probiotic microorganisms in recent years, the acceleration in efforts to identify new, efficient, promising probiotic acidophilic LAB is not surprising.

Background: Obesity affects microvascular structures. The effect of obesity on the ocular vascular system can be evaluated by changes in the choroidal thickness (CT) and retrobulbar blood flow (RBF).

Objectives: To evaluate the CT and RBF parameters in obese patients with various body mass index (BMI) values and compare these parameters with normal weight, healthy subjects.

Purpose: To investigate the effects of patient-induced artifacts on the diagnostic performance of the COVID-19 Reporting and Data System (CO-RADS) and the computed tomography chest severity score (CT-SS).

Methods: A single-center retrospective analysis of patients aged 18 years and older who were admitted to the authors' hospital with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 and underwent chest CT between July and November 2021 was conducted. Patients' chest CT scans were examined by 3 radiologists for CT-SS and CO-RADS classifications.

Introduction: C-reactive protein (CRP) and albumin are markers synthesized by the liver and may reflect inflammatory responses. CRP/Albumin ratio (CAR) serves better to reflect the inflammatory state and therefore the prognosis. Worse prognosis is reported in previous studies when CAR rate on admission is high in patients with stroke, aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, malignancy or patients followed in intensive care units.

Adaptive diffusion priors for accelerated MRI reconstruction.

Med Image Anal

August 2023

Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Bilkent University, Ankara 06800, Turkey; National Magnetic Resonance Research Center (UMRAM), Bilkent University, Ankara 06800, Turkey; Neuroscience Program, Bilkent University, Ankara 06800, Turkey. Electronic address:

Deep MRI reconstruction is commonly performed with conditional models that de-alias undersampled acquisitions to recover images consistent with fully-sampled data. Since conditional models are trained with knowledge of the imaging operator, they can show poor generalization across variable operators. Unconditional models instead learn generative image priors decoupled from the operator to improve reliability against domain shifts related to the imaging operator.

In-Domain Transfer Learning Strategy for Tumor Detection on Brain MRI.

Diagnostics (Basel)

June 2023

Department of Computer Engineering, Kayseri University, Kayseri 38280, Turkey.

Transfer learning has gained importance in areas where there is a labeled data shortage. However, it is still controversial as to what extent natural image datasets as pre-training sources contribute scientifically to success in different fields, such as medical imaging. In this study, the effect of transfer learning for medical object detection was quantitatively compared using natural and medical image datasets.

  • The study aimed to explore how implicit feelings influence the connection between postpartum depression and self-stigma in fathers.
  • Data was collected from 233 fathers using various scales to measure depression, self-stigma, and implicit affect, analyzed with a structural equation model.
  • Results showed that postpartum depression led to lower implicit positive feelings and higher self-stigma, with implicit positive affect partially moderating this relationship.

We propose and demonstrate vertically oriented self-assembly of colloidal quantum wells (CQWs) that allows for stacking CdSe/CdZnS core/shell CQWs in films for the purposes of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) and random lasing. Here, a monolayer of such CQW stacks is obtained liquid-air interface self-assembly (LAISA) in a binary subphase by controlling the hydrophilicity/lipophilicity balance (HLB), a critical factor for maintaining the orientation of CQWs during their self-assembly. Ethylene glycol, as a hydrophilic subphase, orients the coalition of these CQWs into self-assembled multi-layers in the vertical direction.

An Ensemble of Deep Learning Object Detection Models for Anatomical and Pathological Regions in Brain MRI.

Diagnostics (Basel)

April 2023

Department of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transformation Office of the Presidency of Republic of Türkiye, Ankara 06100, Turkey.

This paper proposes ensemble strategies for the deep learning object detection models carried out by combining the variants of a model and different models to enhance the anatomical and pathological object detection performance in brain MRI. In this study, with the help of the novel Gazi Brains 2020 dataset, five different anatomical parts and one pathological part that can be observed in brain MRI were identified, such as the region of interest, eye, optic nerves, lateral ventricles, third ventricle, and a whole tumor. Firstly, comprehensive benchmarking of the nine state-of-the-art object detection models was carried out to determine the capabilities of the models in detecting the anatomical and pathological parts.
