The present study was carried out to determine the effects of germinated wheat on some spermatological parameters (motility, abnormal spermatozoa, hypo-osmotic swelling test (HOST), and viability) in male Gloster canaries. For this purpose, the canaries were divided into two groups, each consisting of six canaries, one control (C), and the other experimental group (GW). Group C was fed commercial canary feed.

The Effect of Music on Anxiety, Pain Levels, and Physiological Parameters in Women Undergoing Brachytherapy: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of music on anxiety, pain, and physiologic parameters in women undergoing brachytherapy.

Data Sources: The study was conducted with a randomized controlled design between June and December 2022. Music intervention was practiced to the patients in the experimental group (n = 30), while no practice was given to the control group (n = 25).

The effect of polycythemia vera on choroidal thickness and retrobulbar blood flow.

Background: To evaluate the choroidal thickness and retrobulbar hemodynamic parameters in polycythemia vera (PV) patients in comparison with healthy individuals, and to investigate the relationship of these values with blood hematocrit levels.

Methods: This prospective study included the 35 eyes of 35 PV patients and the 30 eyes of 30 healthy individuals. Choroidal thickness was measured at the subfoveal area and at 500 µm intervals nasal and temporal to the fovea up to a distance of 1500 µm.

The Role of Spirituality for Coping with Cancer and the Spiritual Care Needs of Women with Breast Cancer and their Family Caregivers in Turkey: A Qualitative Study.

This study aims at determining the spiritual care needs of women with breast cancer and their family caregivers, as well as the effect of spirituality on coping with this illness. This qualitative research utilized a phenomenological design. In-depth individual interviews were conducted with breast cancer women and family caregivers.

The effect of different taping techniques on transtibial amputation walking parameters: A case report.

Buerger disease is a nonatherosclerotic, segmental inflammatory disease of the occlusive tract, often involving medium-sized muscular and small-diameter arteries and veins of the extremities. If medical treatment is not successful, amputation is inevitable. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different kinesiological taping techniques on walking parameters of transtibial amputee with knee extension limitation.

Can tree leaves be used as an alternative source of synthetic antioxidants? Use of jujube leaf extract in laying hens.

This study was carried out to determine the antioxidant activity of jujube (a Mill.) leaf extract (JLE) and to evaluate the effects of its use as an extract in laying hen diet (Nick Brown; 32 weeks old) on performance, egg quality and lipid peroxidation. A total of 4 groups (24 replicates/group), one control (JLE-0) and three experimental groups (JLE-1, JLE-2, JLE-3), were formed and the hens were individually distributed in cages.

Olecranon fractures: A biomechanical comparison of three tension band wiring fixation methods on bone models.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the biomechanical pull-out strength of the three different tension band wiring (TBW) methods employed to fix transverse olecranon fractures on bone models.

Methods: Three different fixation models were created in groups of seven synthetic olecranon fractured bone models. The first technique was fixed the olecranon with the traditional TBW method.

Electrical and Photodetector Characteristics of Schottky Structures Interlaid with P(EHA) and P(EHA--AA) Functional Polymers by the iCVD Method.

In this study, poly(2-ethylhexyl acrylate) (PEHA) homopolymer and its copolymer combined with acrylic acid P(EHA--AA) were employed as interfaces in two separate Schottky structures. First, both interfaces were grown by initiated chemical vapor deposition (iCVD), which provides much better deposition control and homogeneous coating compared to solution-phase methods. In addition to this advantageous method, the effects of two different polymers, one of which is better able to adhere to the crystal surface on which it is formed than the other, on the optoelectronic properties have been studied.

The characteristics of microwave-treated insoluble and soluble dietary fibers from grape and their effects on bread quality.

This study investigated the morphological and hydration properties of untreated and microwave (MW)-treated isolate forms of soluble (SDF) and insoluble dietary fibers (IDF) obtained from grapes. Then, the rheological, textural, and other physical effects of the fibers (5% flour basis) were evaluated on bread quality. For this purpose, grape pomace was valorized as the juice extraction waste.

In this study, the genotoxic effects of mannitol and lactitol, polyols used as sweetener food additives, were evaluated using chromosomal aberrations (CAs) and micronucleus (MN) assays in human peripheral lymphocytes.

Factors associated with HIV-positive status awareness among adults with long term HIV infection in four countries in the East and Southern Africa region: A multilevel approach.

Antiretroviral treatment (ART) appropriately and regularly used decreases the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) viral load in the bloodstream, preventing HIV-infected people from spreading the infection to others. Disparities in ART adoption persists in East and Southern Africa, with low HIV-positive status knowledge being the primary factor. We investigated individual and household characteristics of HIV-positive status awareness among adults with long-term HIV infection in four East and Southern African countries: Eswatini, Malawi, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.

Spiritual Care Perspectives of Elderly Individuals with Parkinson's Disease and Formal Caregivers: A Qualitative Study in Turkish Nursing Homes.

This study aimed to determine the perceptions and experiences of elderly individuals with Parkinson's disease and formal caregivers regarding spiritual care. A qualitative study was conducted using a descriptive phenomenological design. Fifteen formal caregivers and eight elderly individuals with Parkinson's disease from two nursing homes in Türkiye participated in the study.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is common among older adults hospitalized with lower respiratory tract infection, yet information on the impact of DM on disease severity is limited. This study retrospectively analyzed 46 Turkish patients infected with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), with information on their comorbidities, co-infection status, and symptoms. Patients are grouped into four severity levels from mild to severe, according to lung parenchymal infiltration status and oxygen level.

On Death and Examination of the Dead in the Ottoman Empire: A Historical Perspective.

The aims of this study were to examine the procedures performed during the death examination by scanning the qadi registry books of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th-18th centuries and to compare them with the procedures performed today. In our study, a total of 12 Konya qadi registry records from the period between 16th and 18th centuries (1563-1731) were examined. In our study, a total of 70 cases that underwent death discovery and examination were found out of 12 Konya qadi registry books.

Lack of association between VNTR variant of the circadian gene (PER3) and major depressive disorder in a sample of a Turkish population.

Evaluation of Patients with COVID-19 Followed Up in Intensive Care Units in the Second Year of the Pandemic: A Multicenter Point Prevalence Study.

Objective: A 1-day point prevalence study was planned to obtain country data by determining the clinical characteristics, follow-up and treatment methods of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases that required intensive care unit (ICU) treatment in the second year of the pandemic.

An evaluation of pediatric emergency cases in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic: A single-centre experience.

Aim: Nurses responsible for the care of children in the emergency department must be aware of the case profile of the pandemic era, better prepare for developing crises, and identify preventive services. Objective: Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that commonly affects the cervical part of the spinal cord. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between cervical spinal cord atrophy and clinical disability in multiple sclerosis patients.

Methods: We examined the cervical spinal cord area measurements of 64 multiple sclerosis patients and 64 healthy control groups over the images obtained by a T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging device.

The effects of high-pressure, enzymatic, and high-pressure-assisted enzymatic treatment on the properties of soluble dietary fibers and their use in jelly prepared with grape waste extract.

This study aimed to investigate the physicochemical attributes of soluble dietary fibers (SDFs) of grape, which were isolated after enzymatic (using cellulase [0.1 MPa/60°C/30 min]), high-pressure (HP) (100 MPa/60°C/30 min), or HP-assisted enzymatic treatment (using cellulase [100 MPa/60°C/30 min]), then to evaluate textural properties, color, and microbiological load of jelly prepared using grape waste extract and either pectin or SDF types. HP-assisted enzymatic treatment increased glucose adsorption capacity by more than 50%, and the water-holding capacity of SDF more than twofold as compared to the levels measured in untreated-SDF.
