Background: Apnea testing is mandatory to confirm brain death; however, it is unsafe for patients who have substantial hypoxemia without ventilator support. We used a new modified apnea test without the need to disconnect the patient from the ventilator in the present study and compared the outcomes and complications of the new method to the widely used old method.

Materials And Methods: The current study was conducted on people suspected of having brain death.

Background: The development of motor competence (MC) during childhood is crucial for future physical activity and health outcomes, and it is affected by both biological and psychosocial factors. Most MC research has focused on children's age, with fewer studies examining separate associations between MC and biological maturation.

Methods: This cross-sectional study used network analysis to assess the nonlinear associations between biological maturation (the child's percentage of predicted mature stature to indicate somatic maturation), chronological age, sex, BMI, and MC (Test of Gross Motor Development, third edition) in 218 children (100 boys, 118 girls) aged 7-9 years.

Department of Biomaterials and Bioelectrics, Institute of Industrial Nanomaterials, Kumamoto University, Kumamoto, Japan. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • * This study investigated the use of focused shock waves to non-invasively release tumor-associated antigens from renal carcinoma cell lines, resulting in significant decreases in specific antigens on the cell surface.
  • * Findings indicated that the shock waves and cavitation led to antigen release into extracellular spaces, with theoretical models developed to understand the mechanisms and cellular responses involved in this process.

Chirality is a fundamental and widespread geometric structural property in living organisms that most biomacromolecules including nucleic acids, proteins and enzymes, possess. Consequently, the development of chiral drugs capable of binding specific targets have gradually gained wide attention in recent decades due to their selective effects on a broad spectrum of biological events ranging from cell metabolism to cell fate. In this context, the synthesis of chiral compounds as promising therapeutic candidates has assumed a major role in drug discovery.
