The coupling between bis(2-oxazolines) and two equivalents of aromatic aldehydes in the presence of catalytic amounts of NiCl affords an ester-imine product in synthetically useful yields. This virtually unknown, 100% atom-economic transformation involves the formal metathesis between the C=N double bond of the bis(2-oxazoline) moiety, which undergoes ring-opening, and the C=O double bond of the aldehyde. The scope of this transformation is studied, and a mechanism is proposed based on DFT calculations.

Background And Aims: Both obesity and iron deficiency are public health problems. The association between the two problems could be explained by chronic low-grade inflammation in obesity, which could stimulate hepcidin expression and modify iron concentration that the consumption of high-protein diets could prevent. Thus, this study aimed to compare the effects of high-protein diets with a predominance of animal or vegetable protein on serum hepcidin and iron concentrations in adults with obesity.

Chiral Au@Pt nanoparticles (NPs) with optically plasmonic and catalytic active surfaces were sustainably prepared to serve as label-free surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) platform to distinguish D- and L-enantiomers of alanine and tartaric acid. Surface morphologies were characterized by high-angle annular dark-field imaging-scanning transmission electron microscopy (HADDF-STEM) and selected area energy diffraction (SAED) patterns. The amounts of Pt on chiral Au NPs were estimated by the inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Introduction: Patellar instability is a multifactorial pathology requiring precise evaluation of its contributing factors, particularly patella alta. Patellotibial height measurement indexes, such as the Caton-Deschamps index, have the disadvantage of being referenced to the tibia. Patellotrochlear indexes are more appropriate but fail to account for variable knee flexion during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
