Background: Zika virus (ZIKV) infection during pregnancy can lead to congenital Zika syndrome (CZS) and may result in neurodevelopmental alterations in exposed children, with and without CZS. This study aimed to evaluate ZIKV infection during pregnancy as a risk factor for early and long-term adverse outcomes.

Methods: This retrospective-prospective, matched cohort study was conducted in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.

Annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) is one of the main weeds in subtropical cropping systems of Europe, Oceania and South America. Therefore, the hypothesis of this work is that the interaction between ammonium glufosinate and saflufenacil can be synergistic for ryegrass control.

Abortion-related complications in Brazil: results from the World Health Organization Multi-country Survey on Abortion (MCS-A).

This study aimed to describe the severity of abortion-related complications, factors associated with complications, the types of management and the experience of care in Brazil. A cross-sectional study in twenty hospitals (10 in Federal District, 3 in Rondônia and 7 in Maranhão). For 3 months, all women treated for abortion/miscarriage had their data collected.

Outcomes of simple gastroschisis surgical treatment in a highly specialized hospital.

Objective: To assess the outcomes of three surgical techniques in the management of simple gastroschisis.

Materials And Methods: An observational, descriptive, retrospective, longitudinal study was carried out. Medical records of patients diagnosed with simple gastroschisis and treated with different surgical techniques -Simil-Exit, primary closure, and deferred closure- were reviewed.

Objective: We aimed to assess the impact of urinary diversion on survival in patients with advanced cervical cancer (CC) and hydronephrosis. Additionally, we examined the influence of other patient factors and urinary diversion type on survival.

Methods: A retrospective study analyzed survival in cervical cancer (CC) patients with hydronephrosis treated at two Mexican hospitals from 2011 to 2023.

Background: The effective use of combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) has significantly improved the life expectancy of people living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). However, complications have shifted from opportunistic infections to issues such as drug toxicity and resistance, as well as an increase in premature cardiovascular diseases (CVD). These conditions are attributed to chronic immune activation and persistent inflammation caused by HIV, along with lipid abnormalities and insulin resistance.

Floodplain forests drive fruit-eating fish diversity at the Amazon Basin-scale.

Unlike most rivers globally, nearly all lowland Amazonian rivers have unregulated flow, supporting seasonally flooded floodplain forests. Floodplain forests harbor a unique tree species assemblage adapted to flooding and specialized fauna, including fruit-eating fish that migrate seasonally into floodplains, favoring expansive floodplain areas. Frugivorous fish are forest-dependent fauna critical to forest regeneration via seed dispersal and support commercial and artisanal fisheries.

Background: The association between bedside ventilatory parameters-specifically arterial carbon dioxide pressure (PaCO) and ventilatory ratio (VR)-and mortality in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remains a topic of debate. Additionally, the persistence of this association over time is unclear. This study aims to investigate the relationship between 28-day mortality in ARDS patients and their longitudinal exposure to ventilatory inefficiency, as reflected by serial measurements of PaCO and VR.

Background: There are no evidence based guidelines for clinicians to follow in advising pediatric patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) on return to play (RTP).

Objective: To understand practice patterns of experts in pediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI) in relation to how they assess severity of TBI and guide return to play (RTP) decisions with their patients who sustain complicated mild, moderate, or severe TBI.

A correct morphological identification of sand flies is essential to improve epidemiological and control strategies. Wing geometric morphometrics (GM) has proven to be a complementary tool for classical taxonomy, allowing us to explore variations in structure and shape between species.

: Multicomponent, non-pharmacological therapies are the preferred first-line treatments for fibromyalgia (FM), but little is known about them in primary care settings. Our study assessed the effectiveness of the FIBROCARE Program in improving the quality of life, functional impact, mood, and pain of people with FM. : We conducted a pragmatic, randomized controlled trial that was not blinded for both patients and the professionals delivering the treatments in the study groups.

Resonant and Non-Resonant Impurity States Related to GaAs/AlGaAs Quantum Well Sub-Bands.

The energy positions and wave function shapes of the ground and excited states of impurities, including resonance states, are studied using the expansion of the impurity wave function in basis functions. The structures under study are rectangular GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells with four different widths. In all cases, the impurity binding energy (relative to the corresponding sub-band) has a maximum at or near the center of the quantum well, decreases as the heterointerface is approached, and apparently has a limit of 0 if the impurity moves deeper into the barrier.

Infections Management in the Lung Transplant Setting in Italy: A Web-Survey.

Introduction: Infections significantly impact morbidity and mortality in lung transplant (LuTx) recipients. This survey focused on documenting current practices regarding the prevention and management of infections in LuTx in Italy.

Methods: A 52-question survey was administered online in the period from December 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024, assessing center characteristics, Tx team organization, microbiological investigations, infection prevention, and management.

Associated Anatomic Abnormalities in Patients Undergoing Rotational Tibial Osteotomies for Patellofemoral Pathology and Implications for the Level of Correction.

Purpose: Tibial rotational deformity is a known risk factor for patellofemoral joint (PFJ) disorders. However, it is commonly associated with other abnormalities which affect the PFJ. The purpose of this study was to describe the prevalence of associated factors known to affect PFJ in patients undergoing rotational tibial osteotomy and their implication for the correction level.

Background: Anal cancer disproportionately affects people living with HIV. The Department of Veterans Affairs is the largest single provider of health care to people living with HIV in the United States and recommends all veterans living with HIV be screened for anal cancer annually. There are barriers to developing successful anal cancer screening programs, and screenings within Veterans Affairs have been underused.

Hybrid coating prepared with PMMA/Ti-O-Si tested under vacuum conditions for use in nanosatellites.

A hybrid coating made of poly (methyl methacrylate) with SiO2-TiO2 particles (PMMA/SiO2-TiO2) has been developed for use as a coating on nanosatellites, evaluating its resistance to high vacuum by quantifying its weight loss. The coating was applied on an Al 7075 aluminum substrate used for the aerospace sector. PMMA/SiO2-TiO2 hybrid coatings were prepared using sol-gel reaction in situ assisted with sonochemistry.

Cascade reservoirs affect mercury concentrations in fish from Teles Pires river, Brazilian Amazon.

Hydroelectric reservoirs favor mercury contamination in biota, but the contamination in cascade reservoirs is not yet clear. We investigated total mercury (THg) contamination in fish in four cascade reservoirs in the Brazilian Amazon between August 2022 and April 2023. Overall, downstream predatory fish showed higher mercury concentrations than those upstream.
