Background: Carotenoids, potent antioxidants in fruits and vegetables, have recently garnered attention for their potential therapeutic effects against neurodegenerative diseases. This study focuses on the interaction and anti-aggregation properties of conventional and unconventional carotenoids found in red mamey fruit, a nutraceutical fruit that is a rich source of these compounds.

Objective: To assess computational the interaction between of amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide with a set of carotenoids and three carotenoids previously explored in experimental assays as well as to assess ADMET prediction of carotenoids selected by computational analysis results.

Tropospheric ozone (O) concentrations in the Northern Hemisphere have significantly increased since the pre-industrial era, with ongoing growth driven by emissions from industrial, agricultural, and transportation activities, further exacerbated by the warming temperatures and altered atmospheric circulation patterns associated with climate change. This study compared different methodologies for estimating biomass potential losses (BPL) in forests due to elevated O using both concentration-based (AOT40) and flux-based (POD1) metrics. Moreover, to further assess the impact of O on forest health and carbon uptake across the dominant forest types in the Northern Hemisphere, we also compared BPL estimates from dose-response functions with those derived from the process-based model ORCHIDEE.

Background: Von Willebrand disease (VWD), is the most common inherited bleeding disorder worldwide, but its diagnosis is complicated, expensive, and poorly evaluated in several countries.

Objective: To report our long-term experience with the diagnosis of VWD based on a cost-effective strategy.

Methods: We studied 802 Mexican patients, men and women, children, and adults, with clinical suspicion of VWD.

Atypical cellular neurothekeoma is a rare benign soft-tissue tumour that usually arises in the head and neck region, shoulder girdles, and proximal extremities, predominantly in young women. This dermal neoplasm is under-reported in the literature and is not uncommonly misdiagnosed as a malignant tumour due to its worrisome histologic characteristics. Currently, the diagnosis of cellular neurothekeoma relies on a panel of non-specific immunohistochemical markers and its etiopathogenesis is unknown.

[Use of disease-modifying therapies in spinal muscular atrophy 5q in Mexico].

5q Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive motor neuron disease that causes weakness in the limbs, trunk, diaphragm, and bulbar muscles; without treatment it can lead to severe motor disability and even death. The Food and Drug administration (FDA) and COFEPRIS (Mexico's Federal Committee for Protection against Sanitary Risks) have approved 3 therapies to increase the production of survival motor neuron (SMN) protein and improve muscle strength and quality of life in patients: nusinersen, onasemnogene abeparvovec xioi, and risdiplam. Despite the fact that these therapies have shown efficacy, at the moment it is not possible to establish which of them is superior compared to the others.

Search for Soft Unclustered Energy Patterns in Proton-Proton Collisions at 13 TeV.

The first search for soft unclustered energy patterns (SUEPs) is performed using an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, collected in 2016-2018 by the CMS detector at the LHC. Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.

Background: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare neoplastic disease characterized by clonal proliferation of den-dritic cells. It is Mexico's ninth most frequent malignancy in patients under 18 years of age. The aim of the study was to determine the clinical characteristics, treatment, and survival of Mexican pediatric patients diagnosed with LCH treated from January 2010 to December 2018.

Clinical Study and Finite Element Analysis on the Effects of Pseudo-Patella Baja After TKA.

Objective: Pseudo-patella baja (PPB) was one of the complications after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This complication may be closely related to the occurrence of knee joint movement limitation and pain after TKA. This study aimed to investigate whether PPB affects clinical outcomes after TKA and to study the biomechanical effects of PPB after TKA.

Background: The Amulet IDE trial (AMPLATZER Amulet Left Atrial Appendage Occluder [LAAO] Investigational Device Exemption [IDE] Trial) evaluated the safety and effectiveness of the Amulet occluder (Abbott) in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. The Amulet IDE trial is the largest randomized LAAO trial, comparing the Amulet occluder with the Watchman 2.5 device (Boston Scientific).

Regulation of Adiponectin and Resistin in Liver Transplantation Protects Grafts from Extended-Criteria Donors.

The donor shortage increases liver transplantation (LT) waiting lists, making it crucial to consider extended-criteria donors, such as steatotic donors after brain death (DBDs) or cardiocirculatory death (DCDs). Nevertheless, steatosis, brain death, and cardiocirculatory death are key risk factors for poor LT outcomes. We investigated the role and therapeutic usefulness of several adipocytokines to protect such grafts from extended-criteria donors.

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare lung disease that causes chronic oto-sino-pulmonary disease with irreversible lung damage. Several diagnostic methods exist, but electron microscopy (EM) is the most accurate tool, as it visualizes alterations in the axonemal ultrastructure; however, some patients may present a normal ciliary structure. Therefore, other diagnostic methods have been promoted, such as genetic studies or immunofluorescence of specific markers; nonetheless, they are not very accessible and expensive and even present a high level of false negatives.

A one-stone-for-three-bird strategy comprising lignocellulose waste management, photocatalytic toxic organic dye degradation, and anti-bacterial activity has been demonstrated using waste coconut coir derived carbon-supported NiO/PdO (NiO/PdO@C) nanocomposite. The formation of interconnected fibrous morphology with intact formation of face-centered cubic NiO and tetragonal PdO within the graphitic carbon shell in NiO/PdO@C was identified from various structural and morphological analyses. Additionally, the elemental mapping and high magnification transmission electron microscopy analyses observed the homogeneous distribution of bimetallic oxides and their complete coverage by multilayered carbon shell.

Analysis of the presence of natural killer cell subpopulations in preterm human milk: A first approach.

Several immune cell populations are transferred to the newborn through breast milk, including natural killer (NK) cells, which are critical for innate defense and regulation of the immune response, especially in preterm infants. The aim of this study was to analyze the presence of NK cell subpopulations in different types of preterm breast milk. The study quantified the presence of NK cell subpopulations by flow cytometry using the relative expression of CD56 and CD16 markers in colostrum, transitional and mature milk samples from preterm mothers.

A Comparative Study of the Perspectives of Long-Stay Immigrants, Nurses and Cultural Mediators on Intercultural Communication: A Secondary Qualitative Analysis.

Aim: To compare the perspective of nurses, long-stay immigrants and cultural mediators on intercultural communication in care encounters.

Design: Qualitative secondary analysis of data obtained in two primary studies.

Methods: Two sets of data from two primary studies on nurses and long-stay immigrants (including in total two focus groups and 15 in-depth interviews) were merged.

Validation of the scale compassion fatigue inventory in health professional Spanish-speaking: a cross-sectional study.

Objectives: To validate the Compassion Fatigue Inventory in Spanish-speaking health personnel, its psychometric properties were tested, and the influencing factors were investigated.

Method: This was a cross-sectional validation study. Information was collected through a survey of 733 nurses, physician and medical residents using the Compassion fatigue Inventory (CFI), Secondary Traumatic Stress Questionnaire (CETS), The physician burnout syndrome scale (PhBS), the quality-of-life index (SQL -sp) and the reduced Moral Stress Scale (MMDHPr).

Predicting two-year return-to-sport failure after medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction in patellar dislocation patients with bone abnormalities.

Purpose: To develop a comprehensive and validated personalized scoring system based on anatomical characteristics to predict the probability of failure to return to sport after medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction in patients with patellar dislocation.

Methods: 312 patients with medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction in our hospital from 2013 to 2023 were included. Demographic and anatomical characteristics were collected retrospectively.
