Introduction: The aim of this feasibility and proof-of-concept study was to examine the use of a novel wearable device for automatic food intake detection to capture the full range of free-living eating environments of adults with overweight and obesity. In this paper, we document eating environments of individuals that have not been thoroughly described previously in nutrition software as current practices rely on participant self-report and methods with limited eating environment options.
Methods: Data from 25 participants and 116 total days (7 men, 18 women, M = 44 ± 12 years, BMI 34.

Purpose Of Review: Although the set point is one of the best understood weight defense mechanisms, how and when a set point is established and what causes its disruption are not well understood. The purpose of this review is to address these gaps in the literature by exploring studies on the establishment of the set point theory and the underlying metabolic processes that support its existence.
Recent Findings: Research suggests that weight loss achieved through restricted energy intake and increased energy expenditure is difficult to maintain and is often followed by greater weight gain over time.

Influenza is a significant cause of hospitalization and death in late fall and early spring, especially in our most vulnerable populations. Despite high mortality and morbidity of influenza infection, patients are still hesitant about getting the flu vaccine each year. This article offers advice on educating our patients to address misconceptions and help them embrace this important seasonal vaccination.

Background: Self-reported antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence measures that are associated with plasma viral load (VL) are valuable to clinicians and researchers, but are rarely examined among groups vulnerable to dropping out of care. One-seventh of all those living with HIV pass through incarceration annually and criminal-justice (CJ) involved people living with HIV (PLH) are vulnerable to falling out of care. We examined the association of self-reported ART adherence with VL in a criminal-justice sample compared to a routine-care sample.

An emerging literature is specifically focusing on the effects of sleep deprivation on aspects of social functioning and underlying neural changes. Two critical facets of social behavior emerge that are negatively impacted by sleep deprivation-self-regulation, which includes behavioral and emotional regulation, and social monitoring, which includes perceiving and interpreting cues relating to self and others. Sleep deprived individuals performing tasks with social components show altered brain activity in areas of the prefrontal cortex implicated in self-control, inhibition, evaluation, and decision-making, in proximity to mesocorticolimbic pathways to reward and emotional processing areas.

Objective: To improve visualization of upper tract urothelial carcinomas. Previous studies using the novel pH low insertion peptide (pHLIP) variant 3 (Var3) conjugated to indocyanine green (ICG) have demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity for imaging of bladder urothelial carcinoma. Here, we describe a novel approach for the imaging of upper tract urothelial carcinomas using ICG-Var3 pHLIP.

Sustained weight loss and health improvements after bariatric surgery require long-term monitoring and, for a significant minority of patients, postoperative intervention. Unfortunately, many patients demonstrate difficulty engaging in long-term follow-up and treatment due to time restrictions, geographic limitations, and financial burden. Conducting assessments and interventions remotely may help to mitigate these barriers, allowing for greater access to care and improved outcomes.

Research has suggested that memories of mood, emotions, and behaviors are not purely unbiased retrieval, but more similar to reconstructions based on current opinions, positive or negative experiences associated with the memory, and how a person believes they would have felt, thought, or acted. We investigated this memory bias in 66 adult participants with overweight/obesity who rated their mood, emotions, and behaviors during a 12-week, Internet-based behavioral weight loss program and later recalled these ratings at Month 3 (immediate post-test) and Month 12 (follow-up). At Month 3, participants recalled the intervention more positively than reported previously, p = .

Objective: This study examined, among parents who smoke and have children with asthma, perceptions about child secondhand smoke exposure (SHSe), child tobacco use (TU) initiation, and parent willingness to participate in child-focused tobacco interventions.
Methods: Participants were 300 caregivers who smoked and had a child with asthma (aged 10-14). Parents completed an online survey and self-reported perceptions about child SHSe elimination, child TU prevention, and willingness to participate in three types of interventions with and without their child (SHSe reduction intervention, tobacco prevention intervention, and the combination of the two).

The incorporation of human rights in health policy and programmes is known to strengthen responses to health problems and help address disparities created or exacerbated by illness yet this remains underexplored in relation to non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Aiming to understand existing synergies and how they might be further strengthened, we assessed the extent to which human rights are considered in global NCD policies and strategies and the degree of attention given to NCDs by select United Nations human rights mechanisms. Across global NCD policies and strategies, rhetorical assertions regarding human rights appear more often than actionable statements, thus limiting their implementation and impact.

Eosinophilic cystitis (EC) is an uncommon inflammatory disorder of uncertain etiology that has been described in adult and pediatric populations. We describe 3 recent cases of EC that presented as a mass lesion in pediatric patients from the New England region of the United States. All patients were initially suspected to have a malignancy, and biopsy was performed, which ultimately led to the diagnosis of EC.

Young adulthood has been identified as a high-risk period for the development of obesity but few interventions have been tested in this population. One way to escalate our learning about effective interventions is to test a number of interventions simultaneously as a consortium of research trials. This paper describes the Early Adult Reduction of weight through LifestYle intervention (EARLY) trials.
