The development of drug therapy for the pathological calcification of the aortic valve is still an open issue due to the lack of effective treatment strategies. Currently, the only option for treating this condition is surgical correction and symptom management. The search for models to study the safety and efficacy of anti-calcifying drugs requires them to not only be as close as possible to conditions, but also to be flexible with regard to the molecular studies that can be applied to them.

Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is linked to cognitive dysfunction. Although SDB is common in stroke patients, the impact of SDB and its early treatment on cognitive functioning after stroke remains poorly investigated. Therefore, we explored the association between SDB and post-stroke cognitive functioning, including the impact of early SDB treatment with adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) on cognitive recovery from acute event to 3 months post-stroke.

Background: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis pathogenesis involves a large number of different immune system cells, which are both sources and targets of chemokines, that affect not only their migration but also survival, proliferation, differentiation, production of all cytokine types, degranulation, and also directly stimulating or suppressing angiogenesis. Studyingthe contribution of chemokines to this disease pathogenesis will make it possible to identify new sensitive and specific markers for its diagnosis and subsequent dynamic monitoring of treatment effectiveness. The study aimed to identify a list of the most informative diagnostic markers from a wide range of juvenile idiopathic arthritis patients' blood plasma chemokines.

Marinobufagenin (MBG) is implicated in chronic kidney disease, where it removes Fli1-induced inhibition of the collagen-1. We hypothesized that (i) in nephrectomized rats, aortic fibrosis develops due to elevated plasma MBG and inhibited Fli1, and (ii) that the antibody to MBG reduces collagen-1 and improves vasodilatation. A partial nephrectomy was performed in male Sprague-Dawley rats.

One of the fundamental mechanisms developed by the host to contain the highly infectious and rapidly proliferating SARS-coronavirus is elevation of body temperature, a natural fallout of which is heat shock proteins over-expression. Here, for the first time, we demonstrate that the SARS-CoV-2 exploits the host Heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) chaperone for its entry and propagation, and blocking it can combat the infection. SARS-CoV-2 infection as well as febrile temperature enhanced Hsp70 expression in host Vero E6 cells.

Being commonly diagnosed in elderly women and associated with comorbidities as well as ageing-related cardio-vascular changes, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) has been recently considered as a distinct cardiogeriatric syndrome. Frailty is another frequent geriatric syndrome. HFpEF and frailty share common underlying mechanisms, often co-exist, and represent each other's risk factors.

The choice of antidepressants for depression or neurotic disorder is analyzed in the article. Drugs of the group of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are used for various mental disorders more often than other antidepressants according to clinical recommendations. Drugs of other groups (selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, tetracyclic antidepressants, monoamine oxidase inhibitors) are used when the effectiveness of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors is insufficient or the severity of the mental disorder is significant.
