Most sports and leisure activities involve repetitive movements in the upper limb, which are typically linked to pain and discomfort in the neck and shoulder area. Movement variability is generally expressed by changes in movement parameters from one movement to another and is a time-dependent feature of repetitive activities. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of repeated movement-induced fatigue on biomechanical coordination and variability in athletes with and without chronic shoulder pain (CSP).

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how varying the location and timing of visual information affects decision-making when aggregating evidence.
  • Participants viewed random dot motion stimuli presented at different times and locations to see if this discontinuity changed how they integrated the information.
  • Results suggest that people process this fragmented evidence differently than if it were continuous, challenging the idea that evidence is always integrated perfectly.

Unlabelled: This paper studies the performance of open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) in text classification tasks typical for political science research. By examining tasks like stance, topic, and relevance classification, we aim to guide scholars in making informed decisions about their use of LLMs for text analysis and to establish a baseline performance benchmark that demonstrates the models' effectiveness. Specifically, we conduct an assessment of both zero-shot and fine-tuned LLMs across a range of text annotation tasks using news articles and tweets datasets.

Background: Physical and emotional changes in pregnancy may reduce sexual intimacy. Pregnant women need empowerment through short-term cultural-based interventions regarding sexual intimacy for better expression of sexual beliefs and expectations. Since studies are limited regarding Islamic emotion-focused therapy (IEFT), this study was conducted to compare the effect of tele-sexual counseling (IEFT) versus tele-sexual health education on sexual intimacy in pregnant women.

Is there a correlation among landing stability, ankle dorsiflexion range of motion, and ankle stiffness during single-leg landing?

BMC Sports Sci Med Rehabil

December 2024

Department of Sport Injuries and Corrective Exercises, Faculty of Physical Education, Allameh Tabataba'i University, Tehran, Iran.

Background: Even though both landing stability and ankle dorsiflexion stiffness (ankle DR-stiffness) have been independently identified as risk factors associated with non-contact injuries, no study has specifically investigated the relationship between these two variables.

Methods: Twenty male recreational athletes volunteered to participate in this study. Their ankle DF-ROM based on the weight-bearing lunge test, and landing stability based on the dynamic postural stability index (DPSI) and time to stabilization (TTS) were evaluated during a single-leg landing (SLL).

Introduction: Adaptive behavior, defined as a critical set of skills learned and performed throughout daily life to cope with society's age-appropriate expectations, is a central concept for people with disabilities in both clinical and research contexts. As AB is an essential component of daily functioning, assessment is necessary both for the diagnostic process and for intervention, as it enables scores to be compared with the developmental norm, identifies strengths and weaknesses of the persons and monitors the progress of interventions. AB assessment is common in children with developmental delays but less common in children with visual impairment (VI).

Lower limbs kinematic analysis during a jump landing task in soccer players with unilateral anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

BMC Sports Sci Med Rehabil

October 2024

Corrective Exercises and Sports Injury Department, Faculty of Physical Education & sport sciences, University of Guilan, Rasht, Iran.

Background: Fatigue leads to an acute decline in muscle strength, altered patterns of lower extremity muscle activation, changes in hip and knee kinematics. In terms of the effects of fatigue on knee joint kinematics during plyometric training, there is still a lack of knowledge regarding kinematic differences between athletes who passed the ACL reconstructions rehabilitation period and healthy athletes. Therefore, this study aimed to compare lower limb joint kinematic parameters between reconstructed cruciate ligament and healthy control soccer players during jump landing in a fatigued setting.

  • The study investigates cognitive impairments in Persian-speaking adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), highlighting challenges in language and communication that persist from childhood into adulthood.
  • Using an experimental method, researchers assessed 13 men with ASD through two specific language subtests and compared their results to a control group of 26 healthy men matched for age and education.
  • Findings showed that individuals with ASD performed significantly worse on tasks involving metaphor and speech act interpretation, indicating notable cognitive deficits that could inform treatment and support strategies.

Even though replication research has gained traction within academia over the recent years, it is not often well-received as a stand-alone thesis topic by supervisors and university administrators. In this qualitative investigation, we delve into the perspectives of academic supervisors on the feasibility of replication as a thesis topic within the field of applied linguistics (AL). Drawing on Institutional Theory, administrative pressures facing supervisors on what to be considered permissible for a thesis were also explored.

Higher investment in maternal than paternal aunts and uncles is explained by the "paternity uncertainty hypothesis". Regardless of laterality, however, aunts show a greater degree of investment than uncles, which is attributed to sex-specific reproductive strategies. Resemblance cues can be used as indicators of genetic relatedness.

Decades of research in exercise immunology have demonstrated the profound impact of exercise on the immune response, influencing an individual's disease susceptibility. Accurate prediction of white blood cells (WBCs) count during exercise can help to design effective training programs to maintain optimal the immune system function and prevent its suppression. In this regard, this study aimed to develop an easy-to-use and efficient modelling tool for predicting WBCs count during exercise.

Department of Applied Economics I, University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain; UNEC Research Methods Application Center, Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), Istiqlaliyyat Str. 6, Baku, 1001, Azerbaijan; Department of Management and Marketing, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Faculty of Economics and Management, Prague, Czech Republic; Western Caspian University, Economic Research Center (WCERC), Baku, Azerbaijan. Electronic address:

This study explores the applicability of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis in the United States (US) from 2006 to 2020, employing the Spatial Durbin Model (SDM) to analyze the cross-border effects of pollution among states. The results indicate that although economic growth initially decreases environmental degradation, it subsequently contributes to more significant environmental degradation, challenging the EKC hypothesis's validity at the US state level. Factors such as higher energy prices and reliance on fossil fuels are also identified as significant drivers of environmental deterioration, with varying impacts observed across states.
