Dexter energy transfer (DET) of triplet electronic states is used to direct energy in photovoltaics, quench reactive singlet oxygen species in biological systems, and generate them in photodynamic therapy. However, the extent to which repeated DET between aromatic residues can lead to triplet energy migration in proteins has not been investigated. Here, we computationally describe DET rates in microtubules, actin filaments and the intermediate filament, vimentin.

Background: The World Psychiatric Association (WPA) Working Group on Digital Psychiatry aims to digitally supplement, support and improve mental health and care literacy, acceptance and accessibility across WPA member countries and National Psychiatric Associations (NPAs). To help with this goal, the present study was set to explore first the global status of digital mental health and care across NPAs METHODS: An international expert survey on the digitalization level across all 145 WPA NPAs was electronically distributed through Qualtrics. Descriptive statistics were carried out on the global dataset.

CYP1B1 is the most common gene implicated in primary congenital glaucoma (PCG) - the most common form of childhood glaucoma. How CYP1B1 mutations cause PCG is not known. Understanding the mechanism of PCG caused by CYP1B1 mutations is crucial for disease management, therapeutics development, and potential prevention.

Background: An endoscopic screening program following successful weaning from prolonged mechanical ventilation maintained through endotracheal tube (ET; ) may be justified to assess the upper (laryngotracheal) airway in children who may not always be symptomatic for intubation-related complications.
Objectives: To evaluate effects of prolonged intubation in children through endoscopic screening of the laryngotracheal airway.
Methods: In this cross-sectional pilot project, children (2 months-12 years) successfully extubated following prolonged intubation were selected, irrespective of having symptoms, for a 1-time flexible nasolaryngoscopy at third to sixth month post-extubation (follow-up window).

Knee osteoarthritis is a chronic degenerative disease associated with pain and decreased mobility that affects advanced-age individuals, thus causing further debilitation. Radiofrequency ablation can benefit patients who are not ideal candidates for surgical intervention and for whom conservative management has been unsatisfactory. Currently, radiofrequency ablation is performed using either ultrasonography or fluoroscopy.

Background: Smoking negatively impacts postoperative outcomes but acute abstinence from smoking during hospitalization can increase postoperative pain, lower pain thresholds, disrupt pain management, and trigger hyperalgesia due to abrupt nicotine withdrawal in tobacco users. Nicotine replacement therapy has been recommended to minimize these complications. We hypothesized that a high dose (21 mg/24 h) transdermal nicotine (TDN) patch would reduce postoperative pain and opioid requirements.

Introduction: Laparoscopic transperitoneal adrenalectomy was first described by Gagner M et al. Here, we present our experience of more than two decades of laparoscopic adrenalectomy performed in a single surgical unit at a tertiary care centre.
Patients And Methods: A prospectively collected database of patients undergoing laparoscopic adrenalectomy from December 1994 to May 2020 was analysed retrospectively.

Dermoscopy is a non-invasive tool which helps in the visualization of skin structures and patterns not visible to the naked eye. This study evaluates the effectiveness of dermoscopy in diagnosing primary syphilis, which typically presents as a painless ulcer at the site of inoculation. In this study, dermoscopic patterns such as vascular structures and background colour changes were analyzed in patients with confirmed primary syphilis.

Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory condition that, despite available approaches to manage the disease, lacks an efficient treatment and timely diagnosis. Using the most advanced omics technique, metabolomics and proteomics approach, we explored varied metabolites and proteins to identify unique metabolite-protein signatures involved in the disease pathogenesis of RA.
Methods: Untargeted metabolomics (n = 20) and proteomics (n = 60) of RA patients' plasma were carried out by HPLC/LC-MS/MS and SWATH, respectively and analyzed by Metaboanalyst.

Background: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to compare phenylephrine boluses versus prophylactic infusion in parturients undergoing cesarean delivery under spinal or combined spinal-epidural anesthesia on feto-maternal outcomes.
Methods: Medline, Embase, Cochrane, and US Clinical registry databases were searched. Studies comparing phenylephrine boluses (both therapeutic and prophylactic) with infusion (both fixed- and variable-rate) assessing various feto-maternal outcomes were included.

Sustainable plant disease management has long been a major issue in agriculture since the excessive reliance on broad-spectrum pesticides exacerbates chemical resistance, presenting environmental and health hazards. Taking cues from nature's intricate defense mechanisms, scientists are exploiting bioactive agents involved in plant-pathogen/pest interactions to develop novel strategies to combat diseases. Embracing biomolecules in agriculture offers an ecofriendly alternative to chemical pesticides.

Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs) characterized by infiltration of the skin of T-cell lymphocytes represent an uncommon and rare subset of extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Primary CTCL, not otherwise specified, is among the most important subtypes of CTCLs characterized by rapid cutaneous dissemination and systemic involvement. Herein, we present a case of primary CTCL, not otherwise specified, diagnosed via 18F-FDG PET/CT after initial misdiagnosis of cutaneous leishmaniasis.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a serious microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus and may result in irreversible visual loss. Laser treatment has been the gold standard treatment for diabetic macular edema and proliferative diabetic retinopathy for many years. Of late, intravitreal therapy has emerged as a cornerstone in the management of DR.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic non-communicable disease with the ability to cause serious microvascular and macrovascular complications throughout the body, including in the eye. Diabetic retinopathy (DR), present in one-third of patients with diabetes, is a vision-threatening complication caused by uncontrolled diabetes, which greatly affects the retinal blood vessels and the light-sensitive inner retina, eventually leading to blindness. Several epidemiological studies elucidate that DR can vary by age of onset, duration, types of diabetes, and ethnicity.
