Introduction: Limited data exist on long-term outcomes of patients with compensated cirrhosis presenting with acute variceal bleeding (AVB) as an index and lone decompensating event. This study aimed to evaluate the incidence of further decompensation, survival, and risk factors of mortality in these patients.

Methods: Patients with otherwise compensated cirrhosis presenting with AVB as their index decompensating event (n = 463) were analyzed in this single-center retrospective study.

Machine learning based reanalysis of clinical scores for distinguishing between ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke in low resource setting.

Background: Identifying ischemic or hemorrhagic strokes clinically may help in situations where neuroimaging is unavailable to provide primary-care prior to referring to stroke-ready facility. Stroke classification-based solely on clinical scores faces two unresolved issues. One pertains to overestimation of score performance, while other is biased performance due to class-imbalance inherent in stroke datasets.

Introduction: Hypertension is highly prevalent in patients with type II diabetes mellitus. India has some of the highest rates of diabetes and hypertension worldwide, but there is a lack of local data on the coexistence of these two risk factors. This study determined the prevalence of hypertension in patients with, or at high risk of, type II diabetes mellitus from across India.

Pyometrocolpos in an 18-Month-Old Child: A Rare Cause of Acute Abdomen.

Acute abdomen secondary to pyometrocolpos as a result of microperforate hymen in an 18-month-old child is extremely rare to witness. Such a child was admitted with a history of poor appetite, lethargy, high-grade febrile episodes, frequent urination, and multiple episodes of vomiting in seven days. There was no relief of symptoms on oral antibiotics.

Association of geriatric syndromes in older adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Background: Geriatric syndromes (GS) are multi-factorial conditions that make older adults vulnerable to morbidities and poor outcomes. The main objective was to observe the frequency of GS in older patients with COPD.

Methods: A case-control study was conducted in the Geriatric department of a tertiary care hospital in India to evaluate geriatric syndromes including falls, cognitive impairment, frailty, functional impairment, urinary incontinence, malnutrition, and depression in patients with COPD and controls without COPD.

Background And Aims: A study was done to create and run a discrete event simulation in the outpatient department (OPD) of a tertiary care cancer hospital in North India to project and optimize resource deployment.

Methods: The OPD process & workflow as per the expected load at tertiary care cancer hospital were finalized with various stakeholders in a focused group discussion. The finalized OPD process & workflow along with the OPD Building plans were utilized to develop a discrete event simulation model for the OPD at a tertiary care cancer hospital using a discrete event simulator.

This paper discusses the structural orientations and the physico-chemical properties of a single crystal of 2-amino-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidinium hydrogen (2,3)-tartrate 2-amino-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine (2ADT). The experimental investigation of the properties of the compound improves the potential for the utilization of the crystalline compound in the fabrication of optical limiting and nonlinear optical devices. For the growth process, an organic nonlinear optical crystal of 2ADT is synthesized conventionally at varying molar concentrations to achieve an excellent yield.

Pyranopyrazole based Schiff base for rapid colorimetric detection of arginine in aqueous and real samples.

A novel pyranopyrazole-based Schiff base PPS has been synthesized a condensation reaction between aldehyde and hydrazide derivatives of pyranopyrazole. The probe acted as a selective and sensitive chemosensor for the colorimetric detection of arginine under aqueous conditions with a detection limit of 1.8 × 10 M.

First Successful Separation of Craniopagus Twins in India-Plastic Surgical Considerations.

Separation of total vertical craniopagus with shared venous sinuses poses multiple challenges. Provision of soft-tissue cover to the exposed brains at the time of total separation is one of them, due to the large size of the defect and paucity of local tissues. Staged separation of twins is advised with partial venous and parenchymal disconnection in the first stage and total separation in the second stage.

Objectives: Cellular and functional exhaustion of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSC) is significantly associated with the loss of HSCs and hepatic osteodystrophy in cirrhosis. The molecular mechanisms underlying the dysfunction of BM-MSCs are not well understood. We investigated the underlying mechanisms of cellular and functional exhaustion of BM-MSCs in cirrhosis.

Large granular lymphocytic leukemia: a brief review.

LGL leukemia is a rare chronic lymphoproliferative disorder of cytotoxic lymphocytes which can be immunophenotypically either T cell or NK cell-derived. According to the World Health Organization classification, it can be divided into three subtypes: chronic T-cell leukemia and chronic natural killer cell lymphocytosis, and aggressive natural killer cell LGL leukemia. Clonal proliferation of large granular lymphocytes can be because of stimulation of various molecular pathways namely JAK-STAT3 pathway, FAS/FAS-L pathway, RAS-RAF-1-MEK1-ERK pathway, PI3K/AKT pathway, NF-KB pathway, and Sphingolipid Rheostat pathways.
