During routine dissection, we observed a unique case of unilateral polydactyly in the left foot of a 61-year-old male cadaver. We observed the medial head of the quadratus plantae (QP) muscle, which gave off an additional tendinous slip before joining the lateral head of QP. The 4th tendon of the flexor digitorum longus (FDL) was bifurcated into two tendinous parts after receiving a thin fibrous slip from the tendinous slip of the medial head of QP.

  • Cardiogenic shock (CS) is a serious complication of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and can lead to high mortality rates; this study evaluates the effectiveness of the Impella device in treating CS.* -
  • A meta-analysis of four random controlled trials with a total of 442 patients showed that Impella use resulted in significantly lower 6-month all-cause mortality compared to standard care, though 30-day mortality was not significantly different.* -
  • However, patients using Impella experienced significantly higher odds of major bleeding, limb ischemia, and sepsis, indicating potential risks associated with its use.*

Introduction: Chronic kidney disease is an irreversible fate of many CAKUT (Congenital Abnormalities of the Kidneys and Urinary Tract) patients. Biomarkers involved in the disease progression are raised early in the disease process and aid in identifying the individuals at risk of progressive renal function decline.

Aims: To determine and compare the initial levels of urinary biomarkers in patients of CAKUT with asymptomatic controls and to correlate the same with progression of renal disease.

  • - Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication for patients undergoing repair of Stanford type A aortic dissection, impacting their overall health outcomes post-surgery.
  • - A systematic review of 21 studies involving over 10,000 patients revealed that AKI greatly increases the risk of 30-day mortality, stroke, and the need for dialysis or continuous renal replacement therapy.
  • - The presence of AKI also correlates with elevated risks of various complications such as cardiovascular issues, respiratory problems, sepsis, and the need for re-exploration due to bleeding, although some complications like infections and paraplegia showed no significant differences.

Background: Mpox infection is a zoonotic illness that resembles smallpox. Vaccination is widely regarded as a vital effective method of preventing mpox, however, there is lack of consensus of effectiveness of a single dose of mpox vaccine in the current 2022-2023 outbreak. We pooled data from real-world studies to evaluate the efficacy of the JYNNEOS vaccination given as a single dosage.

  • Patellar tendinopathy is a common type of knee pain in athletes, especially those involved in jumping and running sports, caused by repetitive microtrauma and poor healing at the knee joint.
  • Eccentric exercises can help, but recovery may be slow; thus, there's increasing interest in treatments like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, which have shown effective results with minimal side effects.
  • While PRP therapy displays potential for long-lasting improvement, variations in treatment protocols highlight the necessity for further research to standardize its application, and stem cell therapy also shows promise but lacks sufficient data for widespread recommendation.
