Background: Current electrocardiography (ECG) criteria indicate only the presence or absence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). LVH is a continuum and a direct relationship exists between left ventricular mass (LVM) and cardiovascular event rate. We developed a mathematical model predictive of LVM index (LVMI) using ECG and non-ECG variables by correlating them with echocardiography determined LVMI.

Introduction Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) have become one of the major causes of mortality among the Indian population. The costs of anticoagulant, antiplatelet, and fibrinolytic drugs that are used to treat various thromboembolic disorders and used as prophylactics for individuals at high risk of CVDs vary widely in the Indian pharmaceutical market. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cost variation of different brands of drug formulations and to compare the branded prices of the formulations with their corresponding generic and ceiling prices.

A novel technique of Conservative management of OKCs via post stamp method of removing the buccal cortical plate of posterior mandible to expose the cystic lesion and carried out enucleation, curettage and chemical cauterization has been described in the present paper. Also the diseased bone has been used as a bone graft to maintain the contour deformity of the mandible. The present technique has been used in 9 patients with good quality of life and postoperative esthetic results with five years follow up.

Background And Aims: Following spinal anesthesia (SA), patient discharge is often delayed due to postoperative urinary retention (POUR), the incidence of which varies widely. The present study of bupivacaine versus ropivacaine in equianalgesic doses was taken to explore the correlation between time to void urine and time for complete functional recovery.
Material And Methods: In this double-blinded study fifty adult patients were assigned to two groups (bupivacaine/ropivacaine) according to alternate case allocation for receiving SA for lower abdominal, perineal, and lower limb surgeries, lasting less than 2 h.

We report a case of 'occult' bilateral optic nerve aplasia (ONA) where pituitary dysfunction was discovered subsequently. The initial ultrasonography had missed ONA in a child with bilateral microcornea, small non-dilating pupils and roving eye movements. Due to presence of relevant clinical signs in this case, ONA was re-evaluated with MRI, and was subsequently discovered to be associated with life-endangering hypopituitarism.

What Is Known And Objective: Targeted small molecule EGFR Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors (TKI's) and the Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK) inhibitors have been promising tools for advanced non-small-cell lung cancers (NSCLCs). However, tumours tend to develop subsequent mutations, rendering them drug-resistant. Hence, alternative pathways of therapy need to be explored.

Background: Ticagrelor has been accepted as a class I antiplatelet agent in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary angioplasty (PTCA). There have been cases reported on ticagrelor being associated with various cardiac conduction defects. But there is no evidence of QTc prolongation associated with the drug as of yet.

Purpose: Diabetic autonomic neuropathy (DAN) is a common and disabling complication of diabetes, with cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) being a major cause of mortality and morbidity. Standard autonomic function tests (AFT) are cumbersome and time consuming to conduct in OPD setting.
Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of composite autonomic symptom scale 31 (COMPASS-31) as a screening test for DAN.

Background: Uveitis consists of a spectrum of inflammatory disorders characterized by ocular inflammation. The underlying pathophysiology consists of a complex interplay of various inflammatory pathways. Interleukin 6 is an important mediator of inflammation in uveitis and constitutes focus of research toward development of newer biological therapies in the management of non-infectious uveitis.

Background And Objectives: Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) has been a major public health challenge for the Indian subcontinent over many years. Our study was conducted in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, an iodine deficiency disorders-endemic district, with the objective to estimate total goitre rate and iodine nutrition status.
Methods And Study Design: A cross-sectional study with 30 cluster sampling was conducted between June to July 2016 among school-going children in the age group of 6-12 years.

Systems for efficient and selective capture of micro-scale objects and structures have application in many areas and are of particular relevance for selective isolation of mammalian cells. Systems for the latter should also not interfere with the biology of the cells. This study demonstrates the capture of microspheres through orthogonal coupling using biotin (ligand) and (strept)avidin (receptor).

In view of paucity of information on serotype distribution of Dengue virus (DENV) in Central India, we undertook a cross-sectional study to identify clinical and virological characteristics of DENV serotypes that circulated in this region during the 2016 outbreak. Suspected cases were screened by ELISA for NS1 antigen and anti-DENV IgM antibodies. Serologically confirmed cases were subjected to RT-PCR based detection and serotyping.

Objective: To evaluate the results of operative management of subaxial spine injuries managed with 2-level anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion with a cervical locking plate and autologous bone-filled titanium mesh cage.
Methods: This study included 23 patients with a subaxial spine injury who matched the inclusion criteria, underwent 2-level anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion at our institution between 2013 and 2016, and were followed up for neurological recovery, axial pain, fusion, pseudarthrosis, and implant failure.
Results: According to Allen and Ferguson classification, there were 9 cases of distractive extension; 4 of compressive extension; 3 each of compressive flexion, vertical compression, and distractive flexion; and 1 of lateral flexion.

Dengue is a pandemic-prone viral disease which is endemic in more than 100 countries and which puts half of the world's population at risk. While the disease presents as subclinical infection or mild fever in the majority of cases, approximately a quarter of the infected individuals experience severe forms of disease like dengue hemorrhagic fever/dengue shock syndrome that cause significant rates of mortality and morbidity. The pathogenesis of this differential outcome of infection is determined by a complex interplay of factors associated with the virus, vector, and host; much of which is not completely understood.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding RNAs that are crucial posttranscriptional regulators for host mRNAs. Recent studies indicate that miRNAs may modulate host response during RNA virus infection. However, the role of miRNAs in immune response against H5N1 infection is not clearly understood.

The pathogenesis of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), following dengue virus (DENV) infection, is a complex and poorly understood phenomenon. In view of the clinical need of identifying patients with higher likelihood of developing this severe outcome, we undertook a comparative genome-wide association analysis of epitope variants from sequences available in the ViPR database that have been reported to be differentially related to dengue fever and DHF. Having enumerated the incriminated epitope variants, we determined the corresponding HLA alleles in the context of which DENV infection could potentially precipitate DHF.
