Alzheimer's disease (AD), a diverse neurodegenerative disease, is the leading cause of dementia, accounting for 60-80 % of all cases. The pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease is unknown, and there is no cure at this time. Recent developments in transcriptome-wide profiling have led to the identification of a number of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs).

Circadian immunometabolism: A future insight for targeted therapy in cancer.

Sleep Med Rev

November 2024

Center for Advance Research, Faculty of Medicine, King George's Medical University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, 226003, India. Electronic address:

Circadian rhythms send messages to regulate the sleep-wake cycle in living beings, which, regulate various biological activities. It is well known that altered sleep-wake cycles affect host metabolism and significantly deregulate the host immunity. The dysregulation of circadian-related genes is critical for various malignancies.

Article Synopsis
  • A 37-year-old man with abdominal pain was found to have a large mass in his right kidney, which was surgically removed and diagnosed as a primary intrarenal nonseminomatous germ cell tumor (NSGCT).
  • After surgery, the patient received four rounds of chemotherapy and is doing well at the six-month follow-up, highlighting the need to consider NSGCT in renal tumor diagnosis.

Objective: Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive from of breast cancer and is associated with poor prognosis. Tumor microenvironment of breast cancer consists of a wide   range of cell types, including tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). Accumulating evidence indicate that TILs play a crucial role in cancer progression and resistance to standard chemotherapy.

The disease burden of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) is rising day-by-day and is expected to rise 62 % through 2035. The chewing of tobacco, areca nut, and betel leaf, poor oral hygiene, and chronic infection are common risk factors of OSCC, but genetic and epigenetic factors also contribute equally. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are comprised of small, non-coding endogenous RNA that regulate a plethora of biological activities by targeting messenger RNA through degradation or inhibition.

Objectives: Breast cancer is among the most heterogeneous and aggressive diseases and a foremost cause of death in women globally. Hypoxic activation of HIF-1α in breast cancers triggers the transcription of a battery of genes encoding proteins that facilitate tumor growth and metastasis and is correlated with a poor prognosis. Based on the reported cytotoxic and anti-cancer properties of (), this study explores the inhibitory effect of bioactive compounds from and breast cancer target proteins HIF-1α, VEGF, and GLUT-1 .

Background: Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is a prevalent and deadly type of primary astrocytoma, constituting over 60% of adult brain tumors, and has a poor prognosis, with a high relapse rate within 7 months of diagnosis. Despite surgical, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy treatments, GBM remains challenging due to resistance. MicroRNA (miRNAs) control gene expression at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels by targeting their messenger RNA (mRNA), and also contribute to the development of various neoplasms, including GBM.

Traditional cognitive assessments in schizophrenia are time-consuming and necessitate specialized training, making routine evaluation challenging. To overcome these limitations, this study investigates the feasibility and advantages of utilizing smartphone-based assessments to capture both cognitive functioning and digital phenotyping data and compare these results to gold standard measures. We conducted a secondary analysis of data from 76 individuals with schizophrenia, who were recruited across three sites (one in Boston, two in India) was conducted.

Background: Gender-based violence (GBV) is a global public health concern. India's socio-cultural and regional diversity poses challenges for obtaining accurate and comprehensive indicators of gender-based violence. This study aimed to explore the prevalence and predictors of GBV among adolescents.

Objective: Availability of multimodal treatment strategies, including targeted therapies and immunotherapies, have improved the survival of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). However, some patients still progress or respond poorly due to inherent resistance, acquired resistance, or lack of druggable driver mutations. Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) and receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor (ROR1/2) signaling pathways are activated during lung carcinogenesis.

SCLC is refractory to conventional therapies; targeted therapies and immunological checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) molecules have prolonged survival only marginally. In addition, ICIs help only a subgroup of SCLC patients. Different types of kinases play pivotal roles in therapeutics-driven cellular functions.

Mitochondrial metabolism as a dynamic regulatory hub to malignant transformation and anti-cancer drug resistance.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

January 2024

Center for Advance Research, Faculty of Medicine, King George's Medical University, Lucknow, 226003, Uttar Pradesh, India. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • * Mitochondria can quickly change how cells generate energy, affecting cancer growth and contributing to resistance against therapies, highlighting the importance of their DNA, mutations, and metabolic processes like the TCA cycle.
  • * Ongoing clinical trials are exploring the possibility of targeting mitochondrial respiration in cancer treatment, as understanding its relationship with tumor development and resistance could lead to new therapeutic strategies.

Background: Musculoskeletal pain conditions (MSP) affect not only professional nurses but nursing students too. Long standing pain conditions affecting young individuals in their productive years can impact their work efficiency and can have economic impacts. Effective interventions to decrease the effect of MSP conditions are essential for a healthy professional nursing force which form the backbone of the healthcare system.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disorder, is characterised by persistent synovial inflammation, erosion of bones and cartilage, leading to joint destruction. Clinical manifestations are morning stiffness, pain in shoulder, neck and pelvic girdle, loss of mobility with fever, fatigue, malaise, loss of body weight, and development of rheumatoid nodules. Environmental and genetic factors are important contributors in its susceptibility.

Background: miRNAs play a crucial role in the genesis of cancer, either as tumor suppressor genes or as oncogenes. Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in the seed region of microRNAs (miRNAs) can dysregulate their levels in the tissues and thereby affect carcinogenesis. The association of SNP in miR-146a (rs2910164) with the risk of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has not been understood.

Introduction The diagnosis of anorectal malformations (ARMs) antenatally is rare, and most of these cases are diagnosed in the neonatal period. The defects range from easily treated minor anomalies with good prognosis to those that are difficult and complex. The associated anomalies in these malformations are important determinants for the prognosis and outcome of these cases.

Role and regulation of GLUT1/3 during oral cancer progression and therapy resistance.

Arch Oral Biol

June 2023

Department of Life Sciences, School of Natural Sciences, Central University of Jharkhand, Ratu-Lohardaga Road, Brambe, Ranchi 835205, Jharkhand, India. Electronic address:

Objective: This study aimed to determine whether glucose transporter-1/3 (GLUT1/3) increased expression could contribute to oral tumor severity. Furthermore, this study detected whether GLUT1/3 mRNA/protein was associated with oncogenic transcription factors (HIF1α, AP1 and NFκB) and whether by blocking GLUT1 along with cisplatin could sensitize drug-resistant OSCC cells.

Design: We used 120 post-operated human tissue samples, including 35 primary tumors (PT), 43 invasive tumors (N1-3), 17 recurrent chemoradiation-resistant tumors (RCRT), and 25 PT-adjacent normal tissues (AN).
