This literature review aims to comprehensively evaluate the clinical and dermoscopic presentations of common pediatric diseases among children with skin of color (SoC) while also addressing potential variations based on racial backgrounds. This review encompasses various conditions, such as nevi subtypes, viral infections, infestations, and inflammatory dermatoses, as well as hair diseases and abnormal vascular formations, occurring in pediatric populations. Overall, we identified 7 studies on nevi subtypes, 24 studies on skin infections, 6 on inflammatory dermatoses, 10 on hair diseases and disorders, and 14 on miscellaneous disorders that also satisfied our SoC- and race-specific criteria.

Background: Addressing oculoplastic conditions in the preoperative period ensures both the safety and functional success of any ophthalmic procedure. Some oculoplastic conditions, like nasolacrimal duct obstruction, have been extensively studied, whereas others, like eyelid malposition and thyroid eye disease, have received minimal or no research.
Aim: To investigate the current practice patterns among ophthalmologists while treating concomitant oculoplastic conditions before any subspecialty ophthalmic intervention.

The study by Cao aimed to identify early second-trimester biomarkers that could predict gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) development using advanced proteomic techniques, such as Isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Their analysis revealed 47 differentially expressed proteins in the GDM group, with retinol-binding protein 4 and angiopoietin-like 8 showing significantly elevated serum levels compared to controls. Although these findings are promising, the study is limited by its small sample size ( = 4 per group) and lacks essential details on the reproducibility and reliability of the protein quantification methods used.

Introduction: Anemia is a severe public health problem in India, affecting more than 50% of individuals across most age groups. The Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) program, with a target of a three-percentage point reduction in anemia prevalence per year, developed a monitoring mechanism based on a set of 18 indicators and six key performance indicators (KPIs) derived from routine reporting in the Health Management Information System (HMIS). The study's objective was to assess the status of anemia control measures in the district of Faridabad, Haryana, India, using AMB HMIS indicators from April 2018 to March 2019.

Background: Centrifuge-free processing methods support stool Xpert Ultra testing for childhood tuberculosis (TB), but there are limited data on their accuracy, acceptability and usability.
Methods: We conducted a prospective evaluation of stool Xpert Ultra in India, South Africa, and Uganda with three methods: Stool Processing Kit (SPK), Simple One-Step (SOS), and Optimized Sucrose Flotation (OSF). Children <15 years old with presumptive TB had respiratory specimen testing with Xpert Ultra and culture.

The progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is intricately tied to the impairment of neurons, crucial for neurological functions. Despite extensive research, the precise mechanism underlying AD development remains elusive due to its multifaceted aetiology. Vitamin deficiency has emerged as a notable contributor to AD onset and progression, exerting a significant influence on brain function.

Cerebral hydatid disease, caused by Echinococcus granulosus, is uncommon in children but presents significant diagnostic challenges due to its potential to mimic malignancy. Only a handful of cases with such a dilemma have been reported yet in the literature. We report a case of a 12-year-old female presenting with progressive headache and seizures, initially suspected to be a pilocytic astrocytoma.

Spotted fever group Rickettsia (SFGR) infections remain largely under-investigated as causative agents of acute undifferentiated febrile illness (AUFI) in resource-limited settings. Few studies are available on the prevalence of SFGR infections in India, especially in eastern India. In a cross-sectional study conducted in 192 hospitalized adult and paediatric patients with AUFI, the frequency of SFGR using sequential PCR targeting genes encoding citrate synthase (gltA), 17 kDa lipoprotein precursor antigen (17kDa), outer membrane proteins A and B (omp A & omp B) was 6.

Objective: Diastolic dysfunction (DD) is defined as impaired left ventricular (LV) relaxation, caused by structural or functional heart diseases. We sought to assess the role of cardiac CT angiography (CCTA) as a tool to evaluate LV DD in patients with normal EF using the diastolic expansion index (DEI), as compared to transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) as the gold standard.
Methods: Patients presenting with atypical chest pain with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) and having a normal LV ejection fraction on TTE underwent CCTA using a dual source CT scanner.

Objectives: Heart rate control using beta-blockers in sepsis has traditionally been avoided because of concerns with worsening cardiac index and organ perfusion. Recent studies has explored the possible beneficial effects of targeted heart rate control in patients with septic shock who have tachycardia despite initial resuscitation. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the effects of heart rate control in septic shock patients.
